RECALL
A) OBJECTIVE
The major feature of this exercise is to have the dog come immediately it is called.
On the command COME the dog should promptly respond directly to the handler at a fast pace and in a happy disposition. The dog will sit close directly in front of the handler facing him.
Essential for any dog that is allowed off lead. It gives control and allows to exercise their dogs freely. A trial requirement.
B) COMMAND : COME
C) EXERCISE
- Leave your dog in the sit position, step off on the right foot, walk to the end of the lead and stand facing your dog.
- Hold the lead straight and taut in the left hand, raise right hand to shoulder height and bring hand down lightly on the lead and say “(name of dog)…COME” at the command CALL YOUR DOG.
- Now run backwards enticing dog to chase, get the dog in close by encouraging and clapping hand, still running back, gather up the lead, crouch down a little and tell the dog to sit as it stops and help it to sit.
- The heeling position is resumed by stepping back to the right hand side of the dog.
- Praise dog effusively by ruffling the ruff and patting the shoulders, and then free. Repeat once only.
