Hi Kelsey,

Aiya, she is on heat already ar....hopefully it will be cleared by Sunday, otherwise she will make all the male dogs there go crazy, haha...Good that she is a clean lady, know how to take care of herself, do you notice any change in her behaviour?

I am so busy in work and at home recently, cos my son is in standard one already....I spend less time with Daisy during weekdays...Hope I can compensate back during weekends Pirate I think the catch trick is easier to teach, I hope she knows how to catch food 'naturally' , let me try that....Roxy waits for you when you do your business 'in' the toilet, that's funny...I hope she won't insist to go in when you want to take shower, haha....sometimes I think puppies are little bit like kids, they are curious and want to have fun only Sly

Nevermind if we didn't meet at the K9 day, we can still meet after your training. Cool

At first, I thought that the breeder could have mistaken on the birth date but he kept on insisting that it was on 21 Sept. Maybe I'll just wait for the certificate to confirm.

Actually Ben and Baskin don't look quite the same when Beyond and I bought them. You can easily detect their differences. Ben is more golden and bigger in size, while Baskin is more creamish and partly golden and smaller. After all, they are still Goldens and great dogs.

Yeah.... Baskin is slimmer. I have overfed him previously Unsure so have to cut down on the quantity to keep him on the lean side. It is very important that they don't grow too fast and too fat during birth till 4 months in order to permit the healthiest possible development of bones and joints.

You're still feeding Ben with Eukanuba? Lamb and Rice formula? So far so good?

Baskin is currently on Canidae. I am giving him Science Diet as treats because still have some left after changing to Canidae. I also give him carrots and apples occasionally. Wanted to Barf him too, maybe once or twice a week. Have to look up on some good recipe first.

I also give him Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with water everyday. It acts as an anti-oxidant and will keep away infections. I was told that your dog will not have any doggy smell after taking this.

As for the vaccination, Baskin has taken 4 jabs altogether, 1 from the breeder and 3 from Dr. W. The last jab is on 26 Dec. Now he only requires annual booster. I think you should check with the vet and see if Ben requires another jab.

Heh.. heh.... tell your mom that Baskin is not cunning lah.... He's actually very stubborn. Sometimes gila...... Hopefully after the training, he will become much much better.

hello wendy,

well there is not changes in her behaviour, i think she is the same roxy. always curious but i feel she is more obedient now. she seems to know what we are talking about so it's scary..haha like tonight hubby and i was talking and we just said between ourselves , i think we should get roxy a mattress when she wants to sleep on the floor. then her head automatically look up at us. if she can talk, she will have many stories to tellLaugh

i read some dogs on heat will be picky with food and will always kacau your laundry to bring it to their den. so you may have to watch out on this. i was expecting the worst in roxy since this is her first time turns out she was fine. walks are the hardest since we have other dogs bark at us all the time, i am not sure its because she is on heat or those dogs just bark at everything.

ya lah school already, i also thought ur son will start primary school. sure can one, i use lamb meat that i cut in small cubes, not need to buy expensive, i normally buy australian lamb shank and cut the meat for the treat and save the bone for weekend for her so save lah. i have only found lamb shank at cold storage in ikano which is about RM3 - 4 each or isetan at RM6 - 9 (bigger). very difficult to get lamb, the indian mutton look so "teruk" even for human consumption..yucks!

no she dont go into the shower but just sit outside the shower and wait.funny lah her.i also maybe crazy cause i do talk to roxy.Sly i hope u can make it on K9 day. also beyond & baskin. you contact me at 012-3982417 lah ok. roxy will be the fiesty puppy. she still has lots of work to be done on heeling and also controling her excitement when she sees other dogs and children. she don't bark but she gets so excited i think her brain about to burst already.

I reached there around 8.45am and left around 10.30am. Didn't go with Baskin though. Just walk around the park and look at other dogs.

Lots of dogs..... there are GRs, Silky Terriers, pugs, labs, ECS, Pinchers, Schnauzers, JRTs, beagles, chow chows, boxers, GSDs, basset hound, bull dog, St. Bernard. There are so many which I can't recall all. There is one big black bear, a newfoundland, I think. One with a Great Dane size and look but with black and white spots like a dalmation. Not sure what breed.

I met Kelsey and Husband and their girl, Roxy. Met Wendy and Daisy during training.

All the GRs I met, including Ben, looks more fuller is size. If I put them together with Baskin, I think I will be fine by SPCA for starving my dog!

Yo... guess what? I met Wallace (the GR opposite your house) today, at the playground near my house. Actually I saw this GR a couple of times when I walked Baskin and met with the owner once. That time just small talks only, don't even know the dog's name.

Today the owner and I assume is his gf, mentioned something about Baskin being Ben's brother. Only then I realised that this Wallace and your Wallace is the same. Small world again, huh?

Hi Kelsey,

I'm so sorry that I couldn't make it to the K9 day, my husband refused to go Frown I heard from my colleague that many Goldens were playing in the pond, did Roxy has a great time there? I know you were trying to look for me that day, so sorry that I disappointed you. I met Michelle and Baskin after my training, Baskin is taller than Daisy, maybe because hers is a male dog. After that, another bigger dog came, he is a 9-month old lab mix, 3 of them played, pulling us (the owners) all round Sly

The market at OUG doesn't sell lamb meat/bone, and I couldn't find lamb bones in Sri Petaling's Carrefour either (only lamb meat), I don't know why , maybe no big demands....Luckily Daisy is a very good girl, she is still very happy when I play with her and can follow commands, but a bit difficult when she is outside...Let me tell you, we were taught the down command last Sunday, but I had problems getting her to follow the 'down' command, she just moved down a bit only then she gave up...The trainer said some bigger dogs have this problem....Yesterday I used hotdog and the backward L method, finally I managed to lure her to lie down, then only she understands the down command Tongue

I also talk to Daisy, I think even she can't understand, it can still help to build very good relationship when we talk gently to our dogs. Smile I think it is okay for Roxy to be excited when she sees people & dogs, no need to suppress her feelings because she is not being aggresive mah...she is just too happy only.....

Hello

sorry for the late reply, been kinda busy with work lately :/

Sheriff is already same size with Muffin and the vet says it's okay to play with the big dogs. I just worry he'll hurt his hips with all this rough play (and i mean *really rough) and it's better to prevent accidents from happening, especially during puppy stage. Now I just let them play short sessions, Muffin would playfully bite on his cheek and "walk" him around the house compound with his cheek in her mouth :D.

Daisy really seem to love kids a lot :D. It's good she's a girl, wouldn't be too rough on your kids in future. She sounds like a really sweet darling and yes when she becomes adult she will be gentler and calmer than she is now. Muffin is the sweetest thing in my house, the boys are totally diff!

Yeah i'm a dog trainer myself, but like any dog owners i'm still working to train myself better :D. right now i'm not really training the youngest monkey. just let him be a puppy for now, the real work shall come later ;)

PS: don't have pics here, hope to see daisy some day!

Yeah... they told me that Wallace have hip problems too and over weight as well. He do look kind of fat, must jaga a bit loh....

As for Baskin, I noticed that his dandruff has become so much lesser but the red spots are still there. Plus the bald patches on his head doesn't seem to get any better. What if hair won't grow back? My boy become botak, not handsome anymore loh?

Baskin's next visit supposed to be on 18 Jan, but I think might have to go before that because his medication can last for another 2-3 days only. BTW, do you know whether it is okay if Baskin missed one dosage of Ivermectin? I saw some on the floor which I taught was his saliva. I just wipe it away and then realised that it could be the medi Unsure. I didn't give him again, overdose pulak how?

Anyway, today I bought a bottle of Glucosamine Plus by Natural Science from the pet shop at Maluri. RM38 for 60 tablets.

Re: [WendyS] SKin problem? [In reply to] Can't Post

wendy, yes i was on the look out for you on K9 day. too bad u can't come. it was great fun. maybe next time. well we are one of those owners who let their goldens swim in the lake..haha roxy first timer, but once she was in the water, she swam no problem. it was great! it was good on her as it was really hot that day and she could cool down. i think they are going to have another one in october which *fingers crossed* we will be going with roxy.

lamb meat yes no big demand. i get my supply at either cold storage (KLCC / Ikano) or Isetan (KLCC/Lot 10). i see they also sell it at Bangsar Village Mall but it's a bit expensive like RM14 where at the two earlier places only between RM 4 - 9. jusco also have it. you look for lamb shank and normally it will come with the bone in the middle. grill the bone in oven for about 1 minute and then cut the meat off the bone and grill the meat so u can keep at reat, give the bone to her. if u r worried about parasite, boil the bone for 1 minute and give to daisy. daisy looks so different from before!! they do grow very fast.

hahaha, yes hot dogs works very well with our dogs. it's not the healthiest food but it works so i use it once in a while. but make sure the hot dog don;t have onions. just the cheap RM2.99 one is fine the plain hot dogs.

hmm, i actually dont want her to be too excited see ppl, i rather she sit down for petting which she has nearly mastered. sometimes when she sees children, my gosh, i thought i bought a monkey and not a dog!

yesterday during our walks, we met another golden who is an adult and a westie. the lady who owns the dogs was walking them off leash at bukit ceylon (very nice area to walk dogs) and the goldie was barking at us and then i kneel down, the dog came running to me asking to be pet, so funny!! so cute!!the day before we met with an adult great dane. at first seems fierce but after that ok already. roxy was the one who is scared with big black dogs.

last night we rescued a kitten not more than 6 weeks and roxy "tunjuk perasaan". hubby was holding her and i was holding the cat and she wont even look at me. then when i wanted to introduce the kitten to her, the kitten show face and wanted to attack roxy, must have scratched roxy's nose a bit. after that the whole time in the house, i called roxy, she won't come and she was like "i thought i am your only girl"..hehe then we decide we can't keep the cats cause hubby hates cats. gave the cat away to a friend. and roxy now very "kwai" a bit abit also want to rub herself against my leg or just sit on my lap when i see tv. we also thought we rather have a dog cause we know when she is about to jump on our bed waking us rather than a cat which will creep quietly..Sly

dog rules!!

Hi Kelsey,

Hehe...At first I thought you give Roxy raw lamb bone & meat :-)....I'll go to Jusco sometime this week for CNY shopping, so can buy from there lah....sure Daisy will like it so much....mmmmm..yumyum....

Yes, they grow so fast, I like her fur now as it's longer and curved, some ppl don't know will think she is grown up already...haha....but even her size is bigger now, we are still always 'threaten' by other fierce dogs, other dogs will bark at us and Daisy just look at them Unsure

Haha...sure Roxy is jealous lah, she must be thinking why Mummy is bringing back another creature to the house ! yes, I also think dogs are better than cats, dogs like to be with ppl and they can be our best friends, whereas cats just don't bother....

You are looking for a house right, which area? I'm staying in OUG, I can recommend my Real estate agent to you, she is good (especially in selling, she sold my old house for me too), but the lawyer that recommended by her was no good, I have to do lots of follow-ups...If she is familiar with the area that you want, then I can give you her phone no. Your email add was removed, but I have your phone no., can call you later, no problem... Tongue

wah small world after all,

i wanted to give raw but have doubt so i usually boil or grilled for 1 minute to kill any parasites lah. this roxy like monkey, i am still careful around fierce dogs but she all "hentam" only. a couple of days ago we saw a stray which look like a pitbull mix and the doggie was very brave coming near us though i gave my infamous growling. then this roxy so "kan chiong" and want to go to the stray but stray dog can't really tell the temperament so we decided to leave.

OUG ah? jammed or not if go to cheras? I mean traffic everywhere lah but if every day like federal highway also very tension lah. ya lah my email erased my moderator already. well u can call me lor at 012-3982417 after 7pm ok.

Hi Kelsey,

Yeah, I also not dare to give raw, partly because scare to see the blood Unsure Wow, Roxy is brave huh...so far I didn't see Daisy growls, I hope she will if we meet a fierce & threatening dog....

Hehe...not curved lah, wrongly said, it's wavy....Most GRs have wavy fur, right? Daisy has wavy fur on her ears and her back, I hope it will grow longer then she will be beautiful like those on magazines...

OUG ar, not very jammed already since they expanded the Old Klang Road...it'll take around 20-30 mins to come out of OKR if you're on the road after 8am, if you come out earlier before 8am, then it'll take around 10-15 mins. Are you working in Cheras, which part of Cheras? I know from Cheras to KL centre is jammed, not sure about from OKR to Cheras...maybe ERN knows since he is staying in OUG (shhhh, just to tell you, ERN is my colleague)....Okay, I'll give you the agent's phone no. tomorrow, I don't have it today.

Hi ERN,

You are staying in OUG also ? Email me your address lah, see whether we are staying near or not Sly FYI, Daisy seldom barks, she barks only when she wants my attention ! Tongue p/s: Don't mind I tell others that I know you, right? Is that Bebe on your avatar, if yes, then she is gorgeous lar....

wendy,

actually depends, some GR have wavy coats, some have straight coat, some a bit wavy and a bit straight. well GR you see in magazine a bit difficult cause the coat depends on the breeder mah. if the breeder wants to sell wavy coat pups, then mate the parents with wavy coats lor. but in the case of our pups, i think whatever goes lah. specs like above is only when u want to pay so much extra or if they are show dogs. Ok give to me the agents contact ok. i thought of wanting to see u sometime this weekend but we decided earlier that we are going to cameron highlands with roxy. next time lor

Dear Kelsey,

Yeah, of course I can't expect Daisy to be as good as those for show, just wish that her fur can grow more & longer only Smile....so much money, time & effort to put in for show dogs. Going to Cameron with Roxy, sure it's fun...hope she doesn't have car sick going up the mountain. For me, I can't tahan, so I've been there once only...but heard that the new road to Cameron is very much better already. Do you normally join the retrievers gang to jungle trekking, I wish to join but you know la I'm not so flexible, will join if the time is right!

Haha...found out from ERN already, he is really staying near to my house, and the time he described he normally heard a GR barking also is the time I usually go to work and come back from work, so I can't deny that it wasn't Daisy's barks. Such a coincident, last month I met him at pet shop then only I know he likes dogs...after that I recommended him this website, then I found out he is also a member, now we discovered that we are in the same neighbourhood some more !

Hi Hunter,

Sorry, I missed to reply your mail...wow they really play rough, but sure they love to have playmates, I think I can have more dogs only when my sons are all grown up....

Initially I thought of getting a male dog, then the breeder told me female is more suitable for me as I have kids, then I got Daisy...I'm not sure about other female dogs, but Daisy is considered gentle, except that she is playful now, and will do all sort of naughty things when she got nothing to do and when no one is watching her....Maybe you can help me, I really want to give her the freedom in the house, starting from outside of the house, if no one is watching, she will take our slippers, dig the garden & eat the plants....How do I prevent that? I can put my slippers high up, but I can't remove my garden & plants....I have kong toy, but I'm sure that can't last the whole day? someone suggested buster cube, i think that's a good idea, do you have other solutions?

hi wendy,

thanks for the real estate number, i will call her lah. not jadi go to cameron highlands, i have to go "kai kai" and buy some work suits lah. i saw ur reply about the plant thingy. ok my hubby have green fingers, he plant everything at the balcony, herbs, tomato plants, creepers and god knows what lah. when roxy was younger we constantly have to tell her "NO" and lucky at 6.5 months she got the picture. so i suppose it's best u tell her no. supervise her in the garden for maybe an hour a day and if u see her want to eat the plant, pull her back and say "NO" or distract her. i think she is bored in the garden.

everyone will say buy this and that for ur doggie but i think the more toys u buy the more she will think everything is hers. limit the amount of toys u give to her. maybe u give 2 per day and take the 2 and replace, sooner she will learn not everything is hers. i also dont know how roxy stop eating plants but now at least my creeper plant can grow without being "botak - no leaves".

hey should visit u one day and see how roxy and daisy react. the last time roxy saw sherrif (hunter's little pup), she went nuts want to play but a bit scared of hunter (the bigger GR). i am planning to see houses around that area so if it's ok i'll give u a call lah

Re: [WendyS] SKin problem? [In reply to] Can't Post

To prevent your dog from being destructive to your compound, it definitely takes time and patience. five keywords: catch.her.in.the.act.

i do not know if you're comfortable with corrections or not, but i do correct my dogs for being a bad boy or bad girl. if they're behaving good, i reward them with praises and hugs.

let her roam free in the garden during playtime with your supervision. leave the slippers and plants as it is. If you are uncomfortable with giving a correction to your dog, when she starts chewing on 'em, hold her with your hands or collar/leash, get her attention say a very firm "NO".

for my naughty boy, i think correction at the start worked really well. He used to run around the garden with my slippers or my family's clothes that fell off the clothes line. i would catch up to him (note do not call your dog over and give correction - this will discourage her from coming to you again) and firmly hold on his muzzle- even with the rubber slipper STILL in his mouth (yes, to catch him in the act), give a shake and a very loud, firm NO. he would yelp a little and spit out the slipper.

i understand some owners do pamper their dogs a lot and take punishment as something cruel to the dog. but i would call it more of a firm and fair correction instead. mother dogs correct their puppies by nipping on their puppies. it's just natural.

anyway, the correction method fixed the problem of my puppy for good and now i am able to let him roam outside the garden with my other 2 dogs while i'm inside the house. he now understands what i want and what i do not want, and in exchange he gets freedom around the house compound. he's happy, i'm happy :)

toys are very good idea to distract them from being destructive, but i feel that it's a short term solution of the problem. the dog at this point will simply be distracted and will never learn to leave your plants, shoes alone in future until you let them know what is wrong and what is right. some people feel that the way to prevent dogs from being destructive is to simply prevent them from having any changces to GET destructive. but i say instead of preventing them from making mistakes, give them a chance to make the mistake and tell them it's wrong - they will learn something for a change and with ample time your problem will be fixed for good. worked for my 3 dogs so far.

important thing is, you must always catch your dog in the act. if you only found a wet shoe but the dog is no where to be seen, do not correct/reprimand her because she would not know what was her mistake and this will only confuse her and be unfair to her. we have to be firm, but fair :). of course, when she's done something right - pooing at the right spot, come when called give praises and rewards as well.

once your dog is not chewing with your presence, leave her without you for maybe an hour and do some inspections once in a while. slowly increase the time and once she is reliable you can leave her outside with no worries.

there are many methods and solutions for your problem, i say just pick the method which you are most comfortable with. i prefer more discipline in my house to keep the pack from going havoc. so far so good la :D. hopefully you're comfortable with it and give this method a try.

oh, and sorry for the long post. i get carried away when asked anything about training.
