hey wendy, well roxy is not as obedient as u may think, she is still though a puppy. but most of the time she is obedient. she cannot "tahan" when we go outside, she gets excited seeing people, cause of her size, some ppl get very scared even though my puppy is so far from them. she is 5 months and growing big now. as for daisy to behave when she is out of the crate, timing is very important. also u have children, get them to play with the dog, i find kids and dogs can play for hours with supervision and kids loves it when the dog know simple tricks. i have taught roxy the leave it command where i put a treat on her paw and she will leave it till she is told to eat them. and also i have taught her to sit still where i will put a treat on her nose and get her to flick it and catch it with her mouth. both of this tricks, my baby brother who is 5 can play for hours with her and she loves it because of the attention and the food. so i could make dinner or do something like read. also if ur children is too small to play with the dog, get the dog a kong. its about RM40 and can get from a petshop, get the red color one as it's better for her. the black one is for hard biter. if u don't know what a kong is, go to www.kongcompany.com fill the kong with treats and let her figure out how to get them out, this will keep her entertain for hours too. when i make dinner, i make it a point that roxy has to sit just slightly outside of the kitchen and i will give her a frozen treat kong to occupy her so i cna supervise her. before i go to work, i will also give her the kong filled with frozen treats, for yours, try put 1 - 2 dog biscuit in the kong and let try that first, frozen treat is more for "advanced dogs" lah..when she get the idea treat can come out of the kong, u can be sure u will have a peaceful time reading ur book:) timing is also important, when u come home from work, u can't expect her to be all good, she will be naughty as she is excited u r home and she wants to play. so i suggest u just play with her then walk her outside for 30 minutes. once she is back home, she will be tired and will just relax where she loves best and u can watch TV peacefully. get ur children to be involved, ask ur kids to play fetch with her, remember she maybe a golden retriever, but without training, she can be a disaster when she is big. and she will grow big, GR are dogs that will require constant training and affection. good luck!
