Re: [hunter] SKin problem? [In reply to] Can't Post

Thank you so much, Hunter. I should start doing the correction. I think I made a mistake, when she caught my slipper, I used to ask her to come after some chasing (it's no easy to get hold of her), of course she won't come when she knew she was doing something bad, then I thought I should just ignore her coz eventually she will leave the slipper...this is not going to help to solve the problem, right? Are you saying I should chase her until I get her, will she think it's a game?

no no, i'm not implying that you should chase her around as she'd definitely misunderstand it as a play - then it will be havoc! (puppies... lol!)

my puppy will just slow down after sometime with the slipper in his mouth. i'd just slowly walk to him and then catch him. just act on situation :)

Eh wendy! Ur pup..The colour is very nice (nice brown)..Heheheh

Ben can be destructive too sometimes. THis morning..He gigit the mat and he sort of tore it apart..Kena a nice scolding from my father..The funny thing is..(most of the time my father will do the scolding lar) He is only scared of my father..If he does anything funny..My father will just need to stare at him angrily and Ben will stop what he is doin and will just lie down at his place (he knows where he should be sleepin everynit)..So funny..But no worries lar guys..My dad really sayang the fella wan and so does Ben vice versa lar..But Ben is really attached to my mom..Kekekek..Good thing too...(I busy at work, go work early, come back late)

My parents sort of got so attached to Ben that they allowed him to sleep inside the house liao..Free roaming. So everynit..When it is time to come in, Ben will bark and we will let him in , and he will first say good nit or manja manja with everyone one by one before heading to his spot to sleep. Sometimes..If I m lying down on the floor watching tv, he will sleep beside me..My dad has this funny habit of sleeping downstairs..So Ben will teman him sleep everynit..I must say lar..Alot of things has changed when Ben was introduced into our family..He is really a Family dog..

Update on his condition: No MORE red spots..When he was on the med, the skin seems to flake alot..Due to the dead parasites..And the red sport will turn dark blackish..Now the furs are growing back and the black spots are goin away..Handsome boy liao hahahahha..But still on medication..

wahhh..amazing how a dog can change a family's life ah. good to know his skin is now better. u sayang him so much leh..retrievers, u give meds is one thing but if there is no TLC, also he wont get better.

a few weeks back, roxy was hit with a very bad parasite and causes her to vomit, having really watery diarrhea and she was so weak. i thought she is going to die already..was very sad. i even told my boss have to take 1/2 day off to take care of her. lucky my boss though not dog person understand.

that time, transportation problem, can't bring to vet. i really monitor her and slept with her for 2 days together on the same bed and really sayang her. 3rd day, she is ok, give chicken porridge, she is fine already and later that evening, she is herself. i figured she must have eaten something during walks. but amazing how TLC really works for dogs.

we gave her love, she gave us companionship and also love unconditionally.

Yeah... maybe the 4 GR's can meet together. Wow...... big chaos..... Anyone any plans????

Now, Daisy should be the youngest. Followed by Baskin, Ben and Roxy. I called MKA and they said the cert. is pending for signature. The girl also mentioned that Baskin's DOB is 21 August. My breeder kept on saying it's September. haiya.... gives me headaches only.... Hmmm..... must ask him when he hand over the cert. My baby's birthdate also can mistaken Mad.

This Sunday is Baskin's last training session. Aiyo... got test lah.... so nervous Unsure. Hope he'll be good and pass.

Re: [beyond] [WendyS] [michelleteh] SKin problem? [In reply to] Can't Post

gong xi fa cai to all of you lah.

psst..i got something to say ler..maybe u all can try this also with ur GR.

on tuesday, we brought roxy to PD near the regency hotel beach so it was pretty clean. she was very curious about the ocean which kept coming to her (waves). then my hubby jumped in the ocean and she followed. swimming like pro man! she is very strong too.

but she drank some salt water, so she vomitted and poop every where very watery but nothing to worry about. salt water really will make u sick but she was fine after that. but oh my gosh did she had some fun. plus my roxy loves the water so much!

then a pretty strange thing happen. we wanted to test out her rescue skills. i looked on the internet and saw that one of her great grand parents is actually a working dog. so maybe she got the genes lah. what happened was, roxy was sitting with me on shore. hubby was swimming, then hubby purposedly act like he was drowning and screamed "help" the whole gimmick. my dog stood alert, i gave her a command, she went straight into the water (with her leash), swam to my husband, circle him till he caught the leash and swam all the way back, pulling him to shore. we are talking about a 40 - 45 pounds 7 months old puppy dragging a 70kg man. then once at shore. she started licking him and my hubby play dead all the way he was pulled in.

i at shore was giving her commands to pull in and stuff. we thought it was simply amazing. maybe next time we should put a life vest on her. but try this with ur pup, u will be amazed to see if ur pup actually have rescue skills.

no it's not very good. just practise him in a small pool first. he is not very strong yet plus 3 months is still pending 3rd jab right?

we brought roxy to PD after she spend many hours in her own basin and also we saw potential at the recent K9 daySly. she is a very strong swimmer at 7 months. but we also note that she should not be exercised too much and we followed her pace the whole time.

also when u bring ur pup to the beach, ensure the beach is quiet and the pup can follow simple commands especially "come". this is cause even when we had roxy on her leash, we did let her roam around with her dragging the leash. she can "come" when asked so it was ok. but we had the leash just in case she got carried away so we can "rescue" her from any unwanted danger.

p/s - be prepared for the doggie to have serious diarrhea after coming in contact with salt water. its normal. roxy thought she was a diver and start diving in and swallowed salt water. so it came right thru her. nothing to worry about.

Sorry guys.... for being MIA for quite a while. You know lah.... the festive season.... busy cleaning up the house lah.... the dog lah.... myself lah.... then go visiting lah... play cards lah.... Tongue. Now starts to settle down again.

First of all.... BRAVO to Roxy for her rescue skills . Big claps, big claps. Hmmm.... Should test Baskin's rescue skills one day. I think he's more interested in chasing crabs lah....

Anyway, just adopted another GR today. He is going to live with my bf. His name is Shadow, about 9 months old. His previous owner is a Pakistani expat who will be transferred back to his country soon.

Baskin is being his usual unfriendly behaviour towards dogs bigger than him (cos he cannot bully). Baskin keeps avoiding Shadow, while Shadow likes to follow him around and tried to climb on him. Baskin is more interested in Shadow's rawhides than his new friend. Crazy

michelle,

thanks, i'll tell roxy :) dont know lah if baskin will chase crabs when he can soak in the water more than anything. but ironically, i am adopting another GR. a male call Casper. he is a rescue dog. the previous owner neglect and maybe abuse him a bit so he is quite skinny. but he has excellent temperament and was "in love" with my hubby once they were together.

so another happy ending too. we are not going to get him yet till we move to our house next month so right now still living with the ppl who rescue him. but we dont intend to breed. both of the dogs are going to be fixed once we get them. too much trouble of breeding lah. let the breeding to the breeder..heheh.

gong xi fa cai to u and family, i am sure wendy & beyond also so busy.

Hi Kelsey,

Glad to hear that there will be a new member joining your family. How old is Casper? I'm sure he will bring many joys to you, hubby and Roxy. It's sickening to know that some people have the heart to abuse a gentle and innocent creature. But I'm sure you will provide him with all the TLC to make up for lost time.

It's been quite a while since I last saw Wallace. How bad are the legs? Can't walk at all? Hips swaying? The gf said that Wallace was given a few injections for his hips. It didn't work? Poor boy. Frown

Well, Baskin's skin condition also quite good. No more bald patches on his head. However the fur on his back, which was clipped by the previous vet, growing a bit slow. I've been using selenium shampoo and Amitraz for 4 weeks. Last week was the last application. Hurray!!! No more smelly shampoo and poisonous application.

Once I saw some red spots like insect or mosquito bites on his body. I applied tea tree oil on them. It works great. I've also bought an aromatherapy shampoo, brand is St. Francis with tea tree, eucalyptus and neem oil. I've read that neem is very good for skin problems.

Ben is already 24 kg? Wooh..... heavy lor. We weighed Baskin last week at the vet. He's only 19 kg ler. So skinny. NVM lah..... like mama like son. Tongue Hee... ha.... Anyway, the vet said we should watch his weight. Not too fat to avoid stress on his hips.

Yeap..Very bad I would say..His hips are bent and inwards..Very odd looking..I dunno ler..I hope he is not suffering too much from pain.

The other thing I heard is..One of his testicles is not 'out'..So may require surgery..Shocked

Yeah..Baskin and Ben has hip problems 'tendency', so we got to watch out their diet..Anyway..Ben only takes one meal a day..

What da ya mean by 'like mama like son'? U meant Baskin look like u?Sly Hehehehhe

Regardin the selenium shampoo...Unless there are flakes, no use wan if use selenium..

I saw WAllace last week. Poor thing. Never thought it was that bad. The doc said that he may not fully recovered even with surgery. Frown Hmmmm..... I noticed that whenever Baskin go down the stairs, his right leg also bend inwards. A bit stiffed when walking on level ground. I think I should get Synoquin for him.

How much are you feeding Ben? Baskin eats twice a day, with 2 cups of kibbles each time (approx. 110g per cup). Do you think it's too much or too little? He's now 21kg and still looking slim.

There's still some flakes on Baskin and lately there are like 5-6 strands of hair came off his body eventhough I just pull lightly.
