Re: [ashley] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

Better or not is one thing, wanting to eat or not is another story ! I know of someone whose shih tzu went on strike for 3 days refused to eat Innova. Maybe Innova is more palatable for Labs, they seem to like it...whether Nous or Rex..Bonney seems to be okay with it too.
With warm regards,

Hi Ashley,

What Wkser said is very too, no one brand kibble that fit all dogs, stick with the one that do best and availability is another thing.

I found today more ok! no cirit birit anymore! Thank God!! Sly
I wan to ask is it the dog food got to high protein will effect their skin?? cos i get this information from vet. the doctor told me when i feed them eat Eagle Pack! So i change to science diet ( recomanded from doctor) than i found after my Ginger take SD the skin not nice so i change to Eukanuba Maintenance Small Breed!! So is it suitablr for my furkids ?! TQ!!

Hv u tried Eagle Pack lamb and rice? It's quite good....if your dog has sensitive skin you might want to switch to lamb and rice formula and see whether there are any improvements.

Hi Ashley,

Checkout the thread "Specific food for specific breed" in the Nutrition corner.

Accordingly, chihuahua should be fed avocado, mango, pourtry & rice. And should avoid beef, beet pulp.

Smile

Re: [ashley] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

Well usually the lamb and rice formula in dog food are made for dogs with sensitive skin because they stick to one meat source and they don't contain a lot of grains which are possible allergans to dogs eg. wheat and corn....most of the dog food consists of chicken as their main ingredient along with beef or fish and some dogs are allergic to chickens and for these dogs, they will opt for lamb and rice.

Re: [melanie] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

hi Melanie,
this is from personal experience. my female chi also ate her poo poo when she was a puppy. i have tried verbal correction, physical correction ( smack on legs ) , tabasco, pineapple, change of food, potty training, ( ie after eat, potty ), and all others that the internet / books / etc taught. all failed ( or at least i think it failed ). one day, miss ma-le woke up at about 1 year old and decided not to eat the poo poo anymore. and that was it. Me thinks that when she was young, her digestive system wasn't working so well and the poo poo that came out contained some food that had not been properly digested. when she matured ( after her 1st heat ), the poo poo probably was really poo poo, and she doesn;t touch it anymore. so dun despair and have patience.Sly

Dear Ashley, i know it can be quite frustrating !! well, i almost lost my hair and i defintely lost my patience at times. has your furkid had her first heat yet ? Are the poops somewhat soft still ? From wat i remember, she lost interest after the poops were really hard, and she got better with each heat. Either that or it just came together in her head. Dun forget to follow up on correction on the poops still and have patience.Angelic

Re: [ashley] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

oops. oh AsHLey.........since she is quite matured, can you train her to potty after meals ? she would only need to pot once or twice a day, rite ? then you can immediately pick it up and dun have to worry about it. When i got desperate, I trained Ma-le this way.

btw, sorry, what food is she taking ? i think you mentioned it somewhere in the long thread, could you again mention it for my benefit ?

Re: [ashley] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

i have an unorthodox suggestion. Feed your shitzu one heavy meal, heavy enough for her to go pot pot. Immediately after dinner, let her run around a while and see if she will go pot pot. If not, u can use a q-tip lubricated with PONDS cold cream and insert just the tip into her backside. This will prompt her to go pot pot, and can pave the way for potty on demand training.

Re: [Shiraz] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

sorri for the unfinished business. when she goes poo poo, say the magic word you want. for eg, potty potty. soon, you will be able to dispense away with the q-tip and just say potty potty and she will potty on command. U can teach all your doggies to potty on command and be able to control the access to potty. I also did try to break the habit by feeding BARF. It stopped her the time she was on BARF but as the stools were white and powdery, but was not a complete solution.Crazy Eventually, it was herself that decided the poo poo was not for her. ALL the Best !Wink

Re: [melanie] Eating poo poo [In reply to] Can't Post

hi melanie,

Eating its own or other dog dropping is a very dangerous habit....the dog can pick up intestinal parasites,it can also create a bacterial overgrowth condition in its intestines.Always clean up after the dog but to assist in overcoming the porblem leave a recently passed stool and taint it with Tabasco sauce.....

hie~

while going thru this forum, i find that alot of doggies also have this habit of eating their poo. It never cross my mind that it is dangerous for them to do this, just thinking that this is a terrible habit for it is very dirty and will make the dog stinkyCrazy

now at least i know wat to do if one day my dog decide to eat her pooTongue

Yes it's especially dangerous if your dog eats some other dog's poo when u take her out for a walk...parvo virus is contaminated in dog's feces, not to mention worms and if your dog has not been properly vaccinated or dewormed, it may infect her.
