Ya, just as what Liza said, the price is depend on the breed and the size of your dog and the services you need. Just like human, cutting short hair is cheaper that cutting long hair, and wash hair is additional charge. The quality is also different for different breed in different petshop, pobably a petshop is good in grooming shih tsu but not so good in grooming schnauzer. The price for grooming a MS in penang is appr RM30 - RM 80 depends on what service you want.

we just own one silky terrier. I dont normally see people groom GR because i think they just need minimal grooming at the pad of their paws.

They are a few petshop in Penang provide grooming service, beside the one Lisa recommended, November in Tanjung Bunga, K9 in Macalister Road, D'petshop in Perak Road, the new petshop in Jalan Kelawai and etc... Agree to Eve, seldom people send GR for grooming lor... may be you can try to groom yourself... Smile

I would think you need to have at least RM50 in your wallet everytime you visit the groomer ler.. just incase.
Also, if you are like us, we cannot resist to see all the dog goodies that hangs around the shop.. always ended up grabbing something for Jaz when we pick her up from grooming.. you can also check the price first before handing your dog over... Smile

Yeah... the dog toys and goodies seems to have power over us when we sees them hanging in the pet shop.. that's why I start to groom my dog myself bit by bit... too expensive... it's either Jaz gets a hair cut or I do... either one only... Wink

What do u actually wanna do to your dog? Cut his hair, bath...trim nails or paws or u wanna shave it all botak? Rm80....very expensivelah.... normally my friend sends his lab for grooming....bath, cut nails and trim paws...around RM50 only Smile

Grooming for large breed is very simple. Bath, trim the nails, padfoot, taill, bottom, clean the ear, eye ..thats all Smile

Grooming human hair is much much simple than grooming dog's lor Wink

... GR's coat is not so long, so don need too much trimming, and u can do all the simple grooming yourself, save money mar... I sent Yippi for grooming twice, once charged RM60 and once RM30... then I never send him for grooming already because I learned to groom him myself Smile

seriouslah....i know how to do alll that coz i always do it myself. But normally for GR, ppl just bath, trim paws and cut nailslah, clear ears and feed water in case thristy......those thing u need to learn to master it. But i think the most problematic thing is that we need to get the dog to stay still when bathing and drying.....and trim nails Smile

now i think i have gotten the idea of how to groom my GR coz everybody has been telling me just bathing, trim paws, cut nails, clean ears, bottom...so i think i've got a pretty good idea. Smile

actually hor when i bathe my billy, i don't put him on a leash. he'll just stand there until everything is over. so not really a big problem for me when bathing him lah...as for cutting nails...maybe will be BIG problem lah... Crazy

Ya, I learn to groom my furkid myself. Grooming a doggie is not easy but is very interesting. Luckly I found this site, a member of this forum, Arthur, had give me many guides in grooming a MS Smile

. I also learned a lot from my trainer, a MS lover too Smile

. Now I will do some basic grooming, like cutting nails, cutting fur around the paws, ear cleaning, plucking fur outside the ear canal and etc, weekly when I am free. I am planning to do the coat triming every 2 months.

ya, i just saw the new petshop HAPPY DOGGIE (opposite the JPJ, sungai nibong), went into the shop n look look. it's still new i guess... not many thingy yet.. but i saw few shih tzu waiting for groomming.... din see any large breed there yet..... mayb u try liao let us know...... Wink

I've been to the pet shop opposite the jpj. the people there are friendly. i've got to know that they also provide service on highlighting our furkid fur. but of course it would be expensive a little bit to colour your furkid fur. there are green, yellow, blue, red, pink and etc...the petshop owner has a shih tzu with dyed fur...so nice and some more it last long...the price is depend on the furkid size and which part you want to dye. it's about RM30 to dye only the head, body is RM90-100, it depends....the price may be differently. The grooming price is also reasonable BUT the service i dunno good or not...i've thinking of bringing my furkid for grooming...know any place that give good haircut for shih tzu ??

hi jan

i've also been to the shop there...saw the lil shih tzu with so many colors on his/her head and tail....is cute lah..but i find it a bit weird....also not sure if the dye is safe/good for the doggie or not....
anyway if you wanna color your doggie for fun then try and let us know the result loh....
i think some members had already recommend grooming shops in the previous posts in this thread...check them out....

It's so hard for me to groom my furkid now...kind of naughty and the fur start to get thicker and thicker until i also dunno how to cut already...so better leave the job to the professional people...the fur also getting longer. longer than the last time you saw my furkid. Near Craven cafe, The place is called Pet's Place...they provide service on housebreaking. RM20 per hour....maybe i can try bringing my furkid for her to groom...and see how was it.

I've got to know to know that my aunt just adopt a german sherpard, Bobby, from her friend. so big and some more very obedient although my aunt is not his first owner. the previous owner abuse Bobby and kind of skinny at first. no proper food and water. the environment was so terrible. the owner also want to put him to sleep and my uncle took him home for my aunt. kind of good to see him getting better.

anyway, see you at the gathering....miss your little heihei.

It's funny to see dogs in colour. But dunno izzit save for our furkid to dye. Wah....ask me to dye my furkid first ar...then my furkid be the mouse ler...good for experiment...hehehehe...but i'm still considering of dying or not...afraid that it might affect my furkid skin leh....see how first lor....anyway, you have a GR... hard to train your furkid?? for my furkid leh...now become really naughty until i cannot tahan liao...some more know how to unlock the cage door right now. need to extra lock the cage liao lor... really want to give up sometimes...hehehe

I've been to that shop before too..i saw the owner's shih tzu wearing a bee costume, husky and poodle sleeping in the cage..looks quite sick to me. Somemore i ask the owner something, they dont know and ask me back pulak~ Crazy

not very convincing rite... Unimpressed

If you are looking for a good groomer for shih tzu, i'll recommend the place at prima tanjung(opp. island plaza). All those that went there before comes back with satisfying result..well, just a suggestion.. Smile

IMHO, i'm against dying our dogs fur, as we are not sure whether it will damage the fur or not. It might be fashionable, cute or modern, but we buy our dogs as a pet or family. not to riducule them.. Smile

hmm..looks like there's a lot of curiousity over the safety of colouring our furkids..well the colouring does not damaged or spoilt the texture of the hair..its safe therefore no worries pals Wink

unless they used human hair dye then is a different story..if its specially for pets than u need not worry much..i've tried on quite a no of dogs and it did not damaged the hair or change anything except of course the colouring brighten's up the dog..ha ha..but my advice to those who wants to colour the whole dog..thihnk twice before u do it..some dogs may be sensitive to it..therefore not advisable for whole body..some patch here n there does look cute,,, Smile

Hello there ...almost all pet shop offer dog grooming , however the price and quality of it depends.. the type of coat (matted ) ,long and short coat , the size of the dogs etc besides on how good is the groomer (has he or she groomed and shown a dog before ...is she /he formally trained??) and the quality of the products used (shampoo/conditioner they use)and also creativity ,advice etc .

I have been grooming dogs for ages and am still learning . Need any help let me know ..........can be contacted personally at

hi!

well..i don't really agree to dyeing our dog's hair but if you look at it from another point of view, it's just for fun and something different... i think the dye products are meant for dogs and they are quite safe..if they're using human dye then of course cannot....the dog's skin will react just after a while...

just my opinion loh.... Wink

I know there is a pet shop near November pet shop in Tanjung Bunga provides grooming for MS. Quite good. I am not sure the name of the shop. If u really interested, I will check out the name for u. Hopefully this sunday not raining Frown

, because I have to check it out from our training class members. Two of them had sent their furkids for grooming and both of their furkids have quite nice MS looking.

At last my furkid have a haircut on Saturday. the service is not bad and some more the groomer is a friendly person. Is what you all have been talking about, Pet's Place at Tanjung Park. i've got the contact and you can call up for appointment first. Last Saturday, took my furkid for grooming and there was no water. so that day my furkid spent around 6 & 1/2 there. not that expensive....they only charged RM40 plus bath for a shih tzu and after that if you go regularly around once a month. it will only cost you about RM20-30 for trimming + bath.

hmm..its funny u said that the coloring smells awful..its supposed to have a very nice smell and i have used it..it doesnt smell bad..hmm..tht's weird..well it does smell not so pleasant when its wet but after tht it has a nice smell though Smile

..well not all dogs look good with color..golden in color?.. Crazy

..but i do admit those toy dogs like shih tzu or poodle looks good with color..it all depends on individual..in fact i have some cust actually proud of their dog with color n they've got a lot of nice comments..hmm..well well..cant say much but it's kinda fun to see something different.. Wink

yup...you can see Cocoa with a new hairstlye. can see the big bright eyes liao...not like last time, the fur drop down and cause to have a lot of tear stains..as you know he has eyes problems since i brought him home...kind of good for him as the fur no longer stick to his eyes. the hair still long after the grooming just the front between the eyes are short. Cocoa use to have curly fur at the buttocks. now look straighter after the cut.

still having problems to train him cause he no longer want to listen although pay much attention to him. he even pee on top of the car seat...aiyoh...the whole car smell bad... he use to sniff before pee. now, no need to sniff and pee wherever he like, going to the bedroom upstairs to pee, staircase (poo/pee)...cannot tahan lor... dunno how to teach him not to pee/poo everwhere...i was so afraid to bring him out as whenever i put him down, he will sniff and will ignore you...abd the next thing he did was pee/poo...but i know that everything needs patient to train him...but sometimes you know that he will make you geram....dunno what to do....haiya...any suggestion to train him ???

izzit true that shih tzu is hard to train ?? sometimes i see other's shih tzu is very obedient.

i've used to trim cocoa's fur, but really cannot tahan his struggle. that's why i took him to the grooming centre. it's better for other people to do it since we can't handle him. some more he sees stranger, he dare not struggle. and the surprising thing is that, he let the groomer comb his hair. he always struggle when i comb his fur with the big brush. wah..really make you geram...

The pet shop that you mentioned is called "dog r us"...can remember clearly but sound like toy 'r' us ler.....the one that i mentioned one is from "dog r us" you will reach at the roundabout and turn 12 o'clock from your side, the pet shop is on your right hand side. you can know one cause the royal canin word so big...

so can make it tonight ?

FYI. Went to groom Benji ( Silky Terr) at the pet shop near JPJ, was not happy Crazy

with it as almost shave the under belly clean.hmmm but luckily I stop them on time..guess they are still new at gromming silky.. So another motivation to learn to groom myself...ym

I can't imagine being bald in the belly as look so cacatly unbalancelah...but yup pretty gung ho about the groming, bought my self 2 sccisors which cost me almost RM60.. Crazy

...now looking for a electronic shaver/trimmer... heard it cost a bomb... so anyone know the definition of a good scissors and shaver??? .....ym

hahaha... do you know, one of the scissor I bought just cost me RM 2... Wink

I use it to cut the fur on the ear part of Yippi... because the other scissors that I bought is too sharp and I am afraid I will accident hurt Yippi, so I bought the one with round edge... this will reduce the chance of hurting Yippi... Tongue

Well , am learning now to trim and making sure not to trim to much to recover as very ambitious. a bit kiasu to snip to much. The selling point fo the silky is the hair mah..so must make sure the trade mark is protected..heheh. Wink

Hi,

actually silky, not much...juz the tip of the ears to make it look pointed. the paws, and ometimes near the mouth so that it'll look tidy.

However some'll cut the bud to prevent stool from sticking to it. the method is to cut with X shape...only shot on the point of the X n that's the ass. Generally the body should be left long n the tummy, slightly near the genitals so that the urine might not kena the fur....not botak Smile

i bought one scissors RM1 nia...it's actually for cutting human's hair but quitegood for cutting n trimming the paw n anal hair.....it's not rounded but pointed...easier to reach the paws but must be very carefullor Unsure

The scissor I bought that cost RM 2 actually is design for the small kids, not for cutting hair Tongue

. I used to trim Yippi's ear until bleeding, so now I will very careful when do trimming for Yippi.

depends on what clipper u have ....some have blades attached wit a plastic thingy....the plastic thingy has no varying on the length u want to cut.

blade no1 and no 0 is the shortest and if u r careles....sometimes can cut or scrath the dog's skin Unsure

Thanks, Yalor, Normally I will use the shortest blade to trim his body and ear area. Yippi was injured at the first time I myself trim him by using the electric clipper. The blood, walawei... bla bla bla.. flow down from the ear... sakit hati lah, me... but now my kong fu improved already Tongue

, I am very careful and will make sure Yippi won get injured again Smile

hi,

i get what u mean by the blood gushing out.....

once when i was trying to cut a piece of doggyman jerky for my dog....he was too greedy n inserted hid tongue into the scissors......n my GOSh...i cut his toungue...not the whole thing came off but just part of it got cut...... Pirate

i was so scared n it's 1am...where can i get a vet....i just gave him some ice n finally it has stopped bleeding......thank god or else he'll be without his tongue Unsure

i pop into this thread to look for grooming info, i have 2 ast. one call harry, he need to do some grooming now. another one is sabrina, she only 3 month, not much grooming has to do.

the Yorky shop that forum friend mentioned is really around that area. it sitiuated together with a hair saloon! i've been there on one sunday, but is closed. Frown

i'm planning to go one more time to look see look see. Crazy

btw, r u doing the grooming ur self now? where to get the type of electric clipping? i want to try for my harry, DIY grooming. i dont know i can do it right or not but i will do in small part at first. Unsure

i get the ast from taiping breeder. she had told me u've got jaz from her too. last few week i do mentioned to her i got usefull info for take care dog from puppy.com then she did mentioned a name sound like u, i guest may be is u. am i wrong? Unsure

i guest we r get from same breeder, she is quite famous as a ast breeder. frankly speaking ast is a type of very active breed, in 1800 time, they r breed meant for catch ratter, so the instinct is carried in their blood stream, harry will snap house fly or any insect near his distance. sabrina too. i'm fear he eat the house fly coz dont know he will 'lai sai' or not. Unsure

btw, if u got much time to play with them, u may get another one, i think u had know how ur ast behave too, very active and attention seeking too, rite? Tongue

well.. all breeds are tend to grooming. Specially GR, they have different coat of fur and it is recommended to send for grooming once a while hence groomers have proper brushes and equipment and better dryers. I do recommoned u to send ur GR to go for grooming once a while.

I have read the article you posted in previously. I am new member who just joined puppy.com. I have a shih tzu with 9 months old, his name is bobby.

My boyfriend is Penang lang. During the weekend, I followed him back to Penang with our Bobby. We have brought Bobby to see Rosie and she has had done a good hair cut to bobby. Now, Bobby is looking neater and smarter... no more blur blur Wink

Thanks for sharing the info in the forum.... As looking around for a good groomer is a headache one... But with your info provided, it made me hassle free to have our fur kid to have a good cute look... Thanks Sly

I'm penang lang too but working at KL at de moment.

I usually go back to Pg once a month or twice a month. I'll bring my Lesley, baby boy, MS for grooming every 2 month once. Try D'Petshop at Perak Road, opp police station. U can check de price for grooming or u bring your dog for them to have a look so that they can estimate how much. De ppl there is a bit weird (1 of de staff is not that friendly) but I just don't care la, as long as they take good care of my baby n perform a good grooming skill then everything is fine for me. Price is also reasonable.

hmm...i got grooming for free at the shop i bought my ST. i know a junior groomer la. she is my friend. but in BM area. she charge quite cheap. she know the basic trimming

hi,

my fren house. she charge vry cheap compare to the other petshop la.she charge depend on ur dog size and wat service u want. the normal hair cut she can do it.normally trimming and bath she charge rm29 lo. my fren also want to take her ST for hair cut next week. will let u know the result la. Yes. I know of one shop near prima tanjung too beside the temple. The name of that shop is DeFurry , they sell toy breed puppies, grooming, boarding and specialized in ticks removal.
