Joining the group soon if not much problem found. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Chihuhua Owber,
After much consideration-space, time, MONEY FOR FOOD, maintainence, I am going to get this dog to stay in my apartment, just would like to here from you people about this breed seriously.
Female will not pee on my sofa or corner, is good for me. But male is nicer... any male owner encounter any problem? I staying alone, will it be to have Chihuahua that he/she can play by her own, i mean not bark( even bark it will not loud right)

Is 5 months old puppy is good to train and breed already?

Thanks

Re: [jojoe] Joining the group soon if not much problem found. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi jojoe,

You want a chihuahua... I don't think that would be a problem sicne they are small, bark, yes they will bark so you have to control the barking from young coz all puppies and dogs bark. Anyway, Seriously see if your neighbours don't mind some barks here and there, generally, chis are a bit barkish... but I'm not sure since I only read about them and don't have them.

A female is better and easier to have in an apartment, if you spay her early, it would be good too so you won't have blood stains when she is on heat. A male would pee everywhere to mark his home, if you have a garden then he won't do it, but normally males will pee everywhere because it is in their nature, natural for them to mark their territory.

5 month puppy is the best to train and if you work and live alone, it is better to get a 5month puppy but you cannot breed the puppy after it is 2 years old or there will be problems like hard birth, death, small puppies or surgery..... it is advisable to leave the breeding of dogs to profesionals, if you're first time dog owner, you will have a hard time coz you'll have to have some1 at home everyhour, you will need to send the dog to the vet more and the $$$ will be very high if you breed dogs..... and you wil also need to know who willl take the puppies? Where will they end up? Sell to petshops, then that would be worst.....

Think first before acting......

Re: [jojoe] Joining the group soon if not much problem found. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi...Glad to hear another potential chihuahua owner here...Cool

Male or female is depends on u actually...no matter which gender, u still have to train them to pee and poo on the desired place. Of course male will be more playful and spontenous than female but as u said they will lift their leg when pee...u can't stop them basically, they are marking their own territory... after u have toilet train him, he will not pee on corner...my pp will lift his leg to pee but will only on his own tray...

Bark...chihuahua is quite famous of yappy but u have to train him not to bark unnecessary from young. Chihuahua is very alert dog, he will alert their owner of any abnormal sound...so be sure to show him the abnormal sound so that next time he will not bark when heard the same sound...don't be surprised that even chihuahua is small but their barking is really loud... ppl in living hall will hear it clearly when my pp bark in my room upstair....

5 mths old is still ok but make sure u have to start training him right away...since u are staying alone and he is 5 mths old, u do not worried him having hypoglocemia...low blood sugar..u can feed him twice a day... basically chihuahua needs accompany....pls don't just feed them without playing with him...it will cause depression and unhappy dog...think properly before getting it back...

It is right that u do not need more space, they do not require extensive exercise but u have to bring him walk or play with him in order to get the minimum exercise... but u still need your time to train him...don't expect they will learn in a day or two...patient is the golden rule here...they eat less of course compare to bigger size dogs...

Hope the summarise information is useful to u...think properly!!!

They are more information under the thread before getting a dog, please read it thoroughly....

Re: [yst323] Joining the group soon if not much problem found. [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for your info, I think if i really get a Chi, he can see me 24 hours or min 12 hours a day,or with me at least 12 a day. I mean really see me 12 hours a day is not every not every dog owner have!

... About playing with him, of cause la, spend quality time with the dog will be have no problem to me. The thing make me worry is when i am not at home 'sometime' for 4-5 hours, will it create depression on the dog when long term?otherwise the dog will always with me compare to ppl who working 9-5, sometime is 8-8!

I want to teach the dog that when crate him is time to sleep! how huh? or crate him is time to be alone playing toy or chewing toy, how to train this? Toilet train i think should be ok to me, but INDEPENDENCE train kind of hard. any ideal?

Hi yst323,
I heard people in the forum said you got some contact direct to the breeder of chihuahua, do you mind let me know the contact numbers? if not i am going to get from the pet shop already. Even pet shop sound expensive or not save, but I choose what I see, another very important thing is 'their are being CAGE" for sometime(bark what ever there want). If direct from breeder, their may have free run and when i buy from them, and cage them, it going to make noise. I experience that before...

Hi Joe,
I think I have sent u the contact list isn't it?? i have been receiving quite a number of ppl asking about the breeder's contact. If i didn't, just let me know...
Well, according to what u said, u are having more than half a day time to spend with your dog and it should not be any problems but u should not over pampered him oh.....if u want him to be independant. u have to set a schedule when u will allow him to get out from crate for play time or for walk and the rest would be staying in the crate to play by himself...u gonna be strict in this else he will not learn when is playtime and when he is suppose to be alone...

Re: [jojoe] Joining the group soon if not much problem found. [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,
I got what u mean... as for me...the breeder cage him and bring him out on and off, so it is much more easier for me to bring him. Surprisingly he didn't make any noise when he first arrived at my hse...and thereafter never too when I cage him... Breeder not necessary let them freely coz they might need someone to take care if let them walk freely, they are still young....

In term of the price right, I think petshops are selling much higher price than breeder.

Next in take is in March 05 if not mistaken...don't know whether will I still enrol pp in the next class or not...depends on how he performs in the pre novice exam loh...I hardly practise with him cause I'm pretty busy at work too...and he is not looking for playmate oh...refused to walk nicely with me....Mad
