Fancy spending a lazy
afternoon dressed up in look-alike costumes with your
furry best friend? Perhaps join in some fun and games
with your furkids, canine style? Or maybe you might
find the idea of going to a park with your four legged
furry friend to socialize appealing. Whatever the
reason is, the American Kennel Club Responsible Dog
Ownership Day is the event for you and your beloved
furkids.
The AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day was declared by
the American Kennel Club and the official date
globally for this event is September 17,2003. As such,
over 100 organizations all around the cities of the US
and in many other countries in the world, dog lovers
gathered and volunteered to organize many interesting
activities to realize the event.
The purpose of this event is the same worldwide - that
is to educate the public about the importance of
responsible dog ownership and the rewards of a
respectful human-canine relationship. In Malaysia, we
took it one step further by incorporating a donation
and adoption drive for SPCA and PAWS.
In Malaysia, Puppy.com.my has taken the initiative to
put the whole event together. A team of committee
members, all volunteers, had put on their thinking
caps and mustered all their creative juices to plan
and conceptualize Malaysia’s first Responsible Dog
Ownership Day.
Some of the fun stuff lined up for the day include
many doggie games, doggie and owner look-alike
contest, best trick and many more! On a more
educational level, there will be booths set up for
‘Meet the Breed Session’. Here, current and
potential dog owners will have a chance to see the
fine breeds up close and personal and ask for tips
from the group of volunteers about the individual
breeds. Also, we have worked out other activities such
as free health screening (doggies only!) and working
dog demonstration.
A few local pet shops will also be setting up some
booths to display an array of doggie products - a good
way for you and your furry friend to do some Sunday
morning shopping! SPCA and PAWS will also be setting
up booths respectively for donation and adoption. So,
if you’re planning to adopt a puppy, do make a
beeline for these booths.
What’s the best thing about everything? All are
invited and all participate for FREE! Not only that,
there will be goody bags to collect, lots of prizes to
be won and lots of friends to meet! Really, it can’t
get any better than this!
