Jumping on people Can't Post

I have a problem teaching my 10 months old poodle not to jump on people. I can’t stop her from doing this. She is just extremely excited when seeing people. Shocked I am using the soft way: “telling” her not doing this, calm her down, lower my tune… Unimpressed and I am using the hard way too: lock her in the cage, use leash, and even punish her Frown, but all these seem not working on her. When she saw others people, she just will not listen to me, all my commands to her fail. Crazy I hope anyone out there can help me to eliminate this behavior. Pirate

Hi calida,

Your case is exactly like my litter boxer Smile ! Some puppies like to jump on people and is common, especially for boxer breed. Socializing, outdoor activities, and basic obedience training should be the methods in correcting this behavior. I use to hold on her by saying NO when she is excited and trying to jump on strangers. Also, I bring her to have a walk every evening and hoping that she will get rid of it when she is growing up. One trick here: when your doggie is jumping on you, just lift up your leg with the knee towards its front body and she will feel the pain of hitting. Hope will help, good luck!

regards

Hi Calida,

Your doggie basically need some training to stop the jumping behaviour. To stop her from jumping on you is much easier. Each time when she is jumping on you, just raise your knee and target on her chest and say a firm "NO" Praise her when she is back on her four feet. Repeat it for many times and she should stop jumping on you.

To stop her on jumping on other people will be tougher and need the use of a leash. You will also need a friend to confront her during training. Whenever she is jumping on others, just jerk the leash and again says "NO". Praise her or reward her again when she is again back on her four feet.

Try yourself and see if that works for your poodle.
