Basic Obedience Course Can't Post

Does anyone know when the next MKA Basic Obedience Course starts? Have just signed up for it but they have not given me the dates yet... is it this Sunday?

From what I know, the next class will start on 20Oct02. All new trainees are to come for an introduction/orientation course on 19Oct02 to be briefed on what to bring, wear etc during the training sessions.

This info from me is NOT official news from MKA. Please confirm with the office for final verification.

OK, will check with MKa altho they don't have the info yet and have said today that will send me a letter nearer the time.

But for the pre-meeting, is that at Padang Merbok as well, and can we bring our pooches to that?

What dogs do you have again? Are you the Schanuzer guy?

Yes, I'm the Schnauzer guy. Smile

The orientation day (or pre-meeting as you called it) will be held at Padang Merbuk and yes, you can bring your doggie along. You will also witness the graduation ceremony for all those trainees who have passed the Basic Obedience Course exam ( a.k.a. CGC) held on 29Sep. After that, there's usually a short demo by one of the trainer and his dog demostrating the finer points of obedience at the open level. This team has trained for at least 4yrs together and is a joy to watch!

BTW, in the obedience world, we start with the Basic Or Canine Good Citizen course, followed by Pre-Novice, Novice, Intermediate, Open and Utility. Each stage is progressively more demanding from both the handler and dog (eg. from Novice level onwards, the excercises call for the dogs to go OFF LEASH)

Cool... does that mean we will see you there with your schnauzers during our orientation? I'll be the one with the golden cocker called Juno. Was going to bring my other cocker JUpey as well, but he's too naughty and might bite someone by mistake.

Wish I could bring Luckey, my new pup, she is soooo adorable, but she is a bit young.

Hey have there been any incidences of dogs OFF LEASH running onto the road and meeting an accident at Padang Merbok?

I think he understand my language... coz when i say "go mum mum" and he will surelyl run to his bowl and eat. and when i say "poo and weewee is at toilet.. not outside hor" he will straight away go to toilet and do his business.. and even sometimes.. i ask him to "come.. to wash face and teeth" he will walk slowly and go inside the bathroom...

Yes, we'll be there in full force. And in the 1yr+ period that I've been training at padang merbuk, I have NOT seen an off-leash dog running away to be knocked down by a passing vehicle. I have witnessed dogs running loose off-leash WITHIN the padang while training. But these are rare and usually they are running to some familiar face in the crowd watching the training sessions.

Easy, Go to Events forum, look for puppy.com.my gathering thread, see the nice photos posted by our webmstr. A listing of who's who in the group photo is self explainatory.

Re: [les] Basic Obedience Course [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Les,

While I think it's nice and cute that you let Sunny choose whether he wants to enroll into obedience class, the choice shd be yours, not his. You're the owner and you are the one who shd decide whether to enroll him into the class or not....by letting him 'decide' he'll end up being the alpha over you and pretty soon he'll control you and you will end up having a tough time training him....the reason why he's a rascal at home and timid outside is because at home that's his territory and he is the king of the castle but outside he's still very unfamiliar with his surroundings, all the more reason to get him into class for socialisation and interactions with the other dogs and ppl.....well it's up to u anyway....if you think U are ready, then u shd go for it instead of waiting.

Hi Ginl,

I couldn't agree with you more on your good advice to Les rdging the role of alpha or pack leader. Well said!

Les, Ginl's advice merits some consideration. Think about it.

Yes, the black baseball cap will be my trademark!

There'll be no activity this weekend as everyone including the trainers are taking a well deserved break before resuming at 19/20Oct weekend.

Hi Arthur,
I thought I heard one of the trainers telling some owners that their dogs will be graduating tomorrow?! Please, can you confirm that there's nothing on at padang merbuk tomorrow, because I planned to bring my family and dog there as we did the past two Sundays. Thanks in advance for the info.
Hi everyone,
Just in case Arthur does not enter the chat-room, can anyone else confirm about tomorrow?
Thanks so much.
