Dominant Dog Can't Post

Hi all,Smile

Need some advice here.

Well, Hazel's real dominant and gets aggressive towards dogs who don't "bow down".

Today she met a GR...she didn't snap or anything.. yay~ Smile guess the GR was ok with her being dominant.

Anyway, any ideas on how to tone down the dominance? besides socializing her? or is that even a good idea?Crazy

Hi,

I think socialzing her is a good idea. Don't be discouraged coz' she's aggressive. Ah Kow used to be like that too (but small fella bite and bark also people laugh at her lah! BlushLaugh) until after a gathering and a few outings with other members. Smile She toned down a lot after socializing. Hope to see both of you and your other furkids at the next gathering! Wink

Hi..hi..

What a coincidence ! My Hazel (Silky Terrier) is also very dominant towards other dogs.. She will either bark at them when they get close to her or just "grrrr" at them.. guessed she's lack of socialization or it's their name !! hehehe

hhm.........that i doubt so

see, i adopted her through the forum. I don't know much abt her past other than the fact she was used to guard the property and has a long history of skin problems...that's y the previous owners gv her up. From the vet, he told me that she was taken care of...financially. But not much attention..and the food quality not too good which sparked off the skin problems.

"adopted" her for a fee.

Wow, ur Hazel has gone thru a lot and finally found your love !! Smile She must have been a tough lil fella and perhaps she became dominant due to her "survival feat" when she was with the previous owner (dunno????).. Thank God now she's got You !!! Wink

once..

i've only been to abt 3 gatherings....since I signed up in May.

I adopted Hazel not too long ago...in august I think. I brought her to the recent AKC RDO but she went home early. She wasn't used to so many dogs in one place.

Re: [RealityDreamer] Dominant Dog [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Chloe,

If you are afraid that Hazel is not used to it that there are so many dogs at one times, I'd suggest you have small small gatherings with the other dogs with other members of the forum. That is how tha auto pups came together anyway, and Ah Kow (Hilda's furkid) and the others are getting along well now.. so when there are many other dogs and all, like the RDO, they stick to each other in a way. Well, it worked for all the others except Salsa. Salsa is just tooooo pampered and too attached to me, but I notice that when there is a small group, like with ah kow and the others, she does tend to want to get down (from my lap) and sniff all of them as long as they don't intimidate her.

I think the gathering of the USJ/KK people could be a first step!Smile
