Demodex Can't Post

Hi everyone ... update on my dog. Looks like what she got is demodex. Started with a few spot then slowly growing all over her body. Now covering more than 50 % on her body. Seems that my dog immune system is very weak. The medication seems to have no effect at all. So the vet shave all her fur, and now she's staying at the vet clinic for observation. Anyone had similar experience ??? Care to share with me ... advice welcomed. :)

Re: [ck_yap] Demodex [In reply to] Can't Post

Hello ck_yap,
What your dog has if the diagnosis is correct will send shivers down the spines of most breeders.
Demodex is the worst form of mange to be had and the mite/parasites will borrow into the skin and attack the immune system of the animal. Luckily, these mites have to come out to breath. If medication is applied [Ectrodex] to the affected area, these parasites will get killed when come into contact with the lotion.
It is a long process to cure completely, unless your dog develops its immune system, then the curing is much faster, otherwise, it may take anything from 6-8 months.
I haven't had such similar experience, but I know what is demodex.
Regards.

Demodex is caused by demodectic mange mite which can be found in most of the dog. In dog that has good immune system, these mite will cause no harm. Demodex occurs in young dog with immature immune system and as they grow older, their immune system will normally be able to counter the effect of these mite. Unless your dog has defective immune system, the mange problem should not be a problem when they are older.

The mange affect one of my dogs and I normally use insecticide which you can purchase from VET and apply on the affected area (Red Area). The mange has not reoccur when the dog is older than one year of age.
