Self Introduction Can't Post

Hi everyone! We are the Wongs (husband, wife and 2 children). We bought our male Rottweiler in the middle of August. This is our first pedigree and the children's first dog. Ranger is just over 4 months old.

Ranger is to be our guard-dog when we move to our new home later this year, but he's turning out to be a very affectionate pet. We all love him and he has grown so much these last month or so!

He is very trainable and has learnt 'sit', 'down', 'roll-over' and 'hand' very well. He does not 'come' at every command and is still learning 'stay' and 'fetch'. We've been advised to send him for obedient training as he is going to be big dog.

We know MKA conducts such training but wonder which level we should send him. Advice, anyone?

Welcome Wong to the forum.

Yes, MKA do provide obedience training and I think the best time to send him for training is when your Rotti is more than says 8 months old. It is quite difficult to train puppy as they are too playful.

Hi Wong,

Welcome to the forum. It's good that you have considered some training for your guard dog to be. Most of the Rottweilers I've seen at the training grds are very trainable and smart. My recommendation would be to enroll for the Canine Good Citizen class to formalise and further reinforce the basic commands that you have already taught to your doggie.

Some tips, sign up early with the for the next course starting in October. There's usually a long list of trainees...
