Hi, for the All breeds Championships at the end of the year, how old does a puppy have to be in order to enter? Are there puppy classes? Luckey's now 2.5 months, she shuold be 4.5 to 5 months by then I think.
Do they need much training before their first show?
Also, when I eventually come for classes at Padang Merbuk, will a regular lead (leash) do, or do i need an extra long one?

Hi!
Between now till end of the year, there are 3 shows in total, namely:
196th MKA All Breed Championship Show Venue : Ipoh Date : October 13, 2002
197th MKA All Breed Championship Show Venue : Melaka Date : November 17, 2002
198th MKA All Breed Championship Show Venue : Penang Date : December 8, 2002
You can enter Luckey in Minor puppy category for all 3 shows as he'll be under 6mths old. Only if he's at least 6mths of age on the date of show can he be eligible to compete in the individual breed category like puppy, maiden, open & malaysian bred. Do check out the.org.my website for details under dog shows.
As for show handling classes, I have not come across any being offered for the public. Maybe I missed them but what I've learnt so far is gathered from experience and help from the nice folks that I've met in the show ring.
For obedience training, a 6ft leash would be sufficient.

Thanks for all the info.
So there are no more shows in KL till next year? Shame, but guess we'll have a chance to train up properly for next year. How can I teach Luckey to stand in show-stance for the judge? Do they teach all that at these MKA training sessions at Padang Merbuk?

The training session in Padang Merbok by MKA is mainly obedience training + a little bit of agility. MKA does offer some show handling class from time to time. You will have to check with MKA on the availability of such class in the future.

No expert myself but willing to share what I have learnt so far! Why don't you come to this Sunday's gathering. I know Luckey is still too young but you can tear yourself away just for a couple of hours.. Better to show you than to describe in words...

Aww shame! What work do you do? Yes, must meet next time. I will be attending MKA sessions with Luckey in a month's time. Do you know the trainers there? Met a Dominic today (a Golden trainer) and he seemed very nice, but he takes the big dogs classes.
