Fleas and ticks HELP! Can't Post

Hi ,

My K9 is infected by fleas and ticks.
I have used Frontline that I understand kills the fleas/ticks when it set on the doggies body.

I remember Mr KhooBG was mentioning about a solution that we can bath our doggie in. Can't remember the name of the product already. Khoo I would appreciate if you could give me the name of the product.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Hi ChengSee,

Have you tried those ticks and flea collar? I am not sure how effective it is with that.. some of it can be effective up to 6 months, some 3 months..

Hi KBS,

It's tough to get those flea & tick collar. So far, there's only one shop selling this. Well, not sure if it's proven. If works alright, perhaps to u buy them in US and bring it back Wink

Beside the collar type, there r those AC / battery power-sourced type of adaptor (emits radiowave than keeps fleas/ticks away) in the States..again, not sure about its effectiveness.

Hi Cheng See,

It is actually no problem for me to bring back one from US. I've been driving to a number of Pet's supermarkets and found quite a number of them here.. they are cost between usd 6 to usd 15 before tax.. If you want, you need to let me know by tomorrow, as I will be leaving US in two days time.

I was typing away to reply this post and almost come to the end and Belle comes and Press the ESC key and here I am starting all over again.

Thank you KBS for the offer, but I guess I will stick to bath solution. I have 3 doggies here so if I need to get anti fleas colllar I will need 3 and 3 is rather expensive Unsure.

I guess she might have caught the fleas when I took Belle to practice outside before the show and from her it passes to Kiddo and CoCo.

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Hi Boon,

I can bring back one no problem.. Will let you know the price once I got it.. You can at the meantime see the lists of flea/ticks collar at the www.petco.com, but not all items available at store.
I will be at Padang Merbuk this Sunday attending the basic class with my doggy.

Hi Cheng See...how come your dog has fleas? Did she go near any cats? I believe the solution that Khoo mentioned is the same one I used for my dog for his mange condition....no doubt it works wonders for the ticks as well coz I hv not had any problems with ticks because of the bath I gave but the wash is also very toxic and I wudn't recommend you to use it....some dogs will hv side effects frm the wash such as vomitting and sedation....my vet asked me to give a charcoal tablet to neutralise the toxic after each wash....so if your dog is just having ticks/fleas problem, the normal stuff like Frontline or tick collar shd do the trick.

I think tick collars will be very dangerous to ur furkids if you have more than one dogs.

They may accidently chew on each others collar and causes poisoning. I think it is better for an owner with one dog.

TO use frontline effectively you need to ask vet for advice on how to apply correctly and how much amount that is safe enough to clear of the ticks/fleas.

I remember sometimes they allow u to apply more than usual but of course with a good judgement as well. So it all depends on types of the dog and what you apply.

Re: [TohCS] Fleas and ticks HELP! [In reply to] Can't Post

Cheng See,

I have used this product by Bayer called Bactisol. Cost about RM18.00 (Recommended by the vet) Bath the doggie clean first. Follow the mixing instructions, it'll look something like dettol! Vet says its okay if the doggie should lick some of the solution.

Sponge the solution all over the doggie, and pat dry. Works very wellSmile

Frontline is a fine product but it only works when the tick or flea bites the skin. The solution approach works by killing on contact and it acts like a repellant as well. So logically, for complete protection, one would use frontline for longterm and the solution for immediate/short-term.

Hope this helps. Rdgs Arthur

I have also used Bacticol for my doggie and they work great. I also used to spray on area that may have tick. A word of caution. Always wear plastic hand glove when you apply these solutions on your doggie.

O dear,

I never have problem in buying tick/flea collar... In Kuching, we can find it in supermarket, pet shop, and vet too.... And cost around RM20 to RM24++... Advice for them who have more than one dogs... is to cut one tick coller into half or 3 parts, then tie it with rubberband or thread on inside your dog collar, and make sure it touched your dog skin. This is my one dollar thought... hehehe...Tongue
