dogs are supose to be leash - right! walk on the LEFT not the right. not really! I teach my dog to walk on my rightside n forgging with no pulling n be a dog. When on my leftside means pay attention we are at work There's no rules and regulations or by laws that dog must beon the left side and not right. Obed rules-YES on the leftside Agility either side.

True enough there is no ruling on either left or right. but I presume tat it will be safer to walk our on the left as the shoulder of the road in Malaysia is on the left side. And for your info show ruling is on the left.

hi there,
sorry for the wrong info. nway, left or right is the same. as long as your dog is safe from the traffic. whenever i walk my dogs, i'll make sure they are on the grassy path and i will be walking on the tar road.

Veteran,
I believe from the message what Kowpa was trying to say is that it does not have to be left all the times when we walk the dog in the roads. As long as the dog is not pulling on the leash it should be ok. Left with attention is only trained for the OB trial and will be unrealistic for normal walk in the evenings
I believe kowpa was using right as a cue that the dog can be a dog and do whatever he likes but when the dog is on the left it is only reserved for OB when absolute focus and accuracy is permitted.....This is surely a good thing to be included in my box of tricks for my own sessions. thanks Kowpa, Keep the good stuff coming.

Hi !! My pup Sunshine, also does not walk with the leash. In fact, I think he does not know what is the leash for. It's because I do not really bring him out of the house for walks ( I have ticks phobia ) and he usually does his business in the toilet at home.Anyway, I just started to bring him out for walks, but he's just as stubborn as me and refuses to budge when the leash is tied!! So, I bring treats to "trick" him. Has worked so far.....

Carrie,
Using treets and such good things to motivate the dog and is a good inprint. One easy way to socialise your dog is to put on a short leash and let the dog drag it around while at home and in a controlled outdoor area. Better still to use a leash without any knot or loop so that the dog does not get tangled up in any furnitures. Everytime pooch is on leash pull out the favoutite food and toys and play with your dog. the aim is to make a positive inprint that everytime the is a leash the dog gets a good experience. Soon your dog will grow out of the leash fright in good time. just don't push the dog too far by pulling....that would b negative inprint where the dog will associate leash with the wrong thing.
Good luck and happy trying.
PS only put on leash when you are around and please no choke chain. Tangled up dog is not the aim of this excercise.
