Worried about Belle Can't Post

Thank you Arthur and Khoobg for sharing your knowledge and experience. I am sure many from this forum have benefit from both of you.

I am dead worried about Belle. She seems to know the commands at home but out there is only listens 50% of the time.

I guess the problem lies in:-

(1) She have had not enough practise
(2) She is distracted to crowds and noise around her.
(3) I am nervous of her performance and that makes me loose focus of my contact with her.

I guess lots lies on the 3rd reason. I am dead nervous.

Guess I have to polish up more of my own confidence as well as Belle's performance.

Once again thank you for sharing and see you guys on next Sunday in the ring!

Many doggie cheers,

Cheng See

Hi Cheng See,

It was nice of you to show us the demo on clicker training. As for sharing our expericences, you are most welcome! During this coming week, if possible, take Belle out and do your training there. Sometimes, I practise on the roadside beside a playgrd (MPSJ does NOT allow dogs in their parks Unsure) with all the noise of passing cars, children playing, other doggies out on walks, etc. This will expose the furkids to all the distraction and 'condition' them to ignore them and concentrate on YOU.

You are also correct to work on your selfconfidence. It is said that our leash is like an electric wire connecting our emotions direct to the doggie. If we are nervous, this feeling goes straight down the leash to them! But like we said, once inside the obedience ring, there will NOT be that many distractions as the ring stewards does a good job to make it a condusive atmosphere for testing. Be strong, be confident and just do the best you can and MOST of all, have FUN! If we are not having fun, why do it in the first place? Ha Ha.. Sly

Just go there to try your best and you should be fine. While heel works is important, more works has to be done on Belle to ensure that she will not break the sit and down stay. As long as Belle can perform Sit and Down Stay without breaking, loosing some marks in Heel Works will qualify her for position.
