Smile Thanks for your reply. I bought it at sec14 my pet house, the corner shop at RM750 with one free grooming. His name is Chino, Laugh name after my family name Chin. He is born on 1/4/02. 2 colour, white with black patch. Has signed up the Oct basic lesson class. Weight at 4 kg plus, it is too fat? Smile Don't know whether is really pure breed, the shop owner told me it is. .. Any way to check?

Re: [les] Introduction [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Les!

Puppy Kindergarden is for puppies that are between 3-6mths old on the date of the training starts. The training is almost exactly similiar to the Canine Good Citizen course (or sometimes called Basic Training, these 2 terms means the same.) Every instructor has his/her own style of training, some more detailed than others.

For eg. for Lee Sha, she was almost 3.5 months when we enrolled her for the puppy kindergarden. The instructor taught the class the same level of training as the Canine Good Citizen course. In fact, when the Canine Good Citizen exam date came, Lee Sha turned 6mths and thus, eligible to take the exam (the doggie has to be more than 6mths old on the exam date) which we are proud to say, she PASSED!

If Sunny's age ok, I suggest you enrol him for the puppykindergarden and take the CGC exam. If Sunny pass, you'll save RM100 by skipping the actual CGC course and can proceed (if you wish) to Pre-Novice.

Re: [arthur] Introduction [In reply to] Can't Post

Arthur,

My Chino has signed up for the Oct class at MKA, and I have selected basic training for him, as now he is 4 months old, by the time the class starts, he is already 7 months, please advice. Second question is that, he is 4kg plus now, is he too fat?

Re: [Jimmy0216] Introduction [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Jimmy,

In your case, Chino will be too old to join the puppy class in October as he'll be 7mths by then. (Puppy class is for 3-6mths pups only) So you did the right thing by selecting the basic training. This is the CGC course as well and I reckon after 10wks from October, you and Chino will be the proud recipients of the CGC cert and medal. (Cert for you and medal for Chino!)

As for the weight query, here's the extract of your breed std from the AKC website..

"Size Ideally, height at withers is 9 to 10½ inches; but, not less than 8 inches nor more than 11 inches. Ideally, weight of mature dogs, 9 to 16 pounds. Proportion Length between withers and root of tail is slightly longer than height at withers. The Shih Tzu must never be so high stationed as to appear leggy, nor so low stationed as to appear dumpy or squatty. Substance Regardless of size, the Shih Tzu is always compact, solid and carries good weight and substance"

So, it's 9-16 lbs which is 4-7kg for an adult dog. Looks a bit tad heavy to me BUT I'm no Shih Tzu si-fu! Crazy Maybe the other Shih Tzu owners care to comment. Me.. I'm the furry bearded rascal (Miniature Schnauzer)fan myself.Sly Rdgs Arthur
