Hi To All Can't Post

Hi All,

I am quite new to this forum. My name is Bin Soo and I have a 11 months old female beagle.. her name is snuffy and she is my angel (no matter how naughty she is in other ppl's eyes). It is interesting to find so many dog lovers out there and be able to share our dog experience with.. Snuffy will be attending her first obedient class organized by MKA (unfortunately I was not in town last week to bring her for the first lesson, but looking forward for the next one). Now, she can sit, fetch, shake hand, high five.. She only react to all this commands when I have treats in hand or going to play with her.. other times, she might just ignore me. :(

I do have a few questions to all of you out there especially those with Beagle experience:-

1) My dog shed alot, is that normal for Beagle?

2) She is into her second menstruation period, what is the best time to spay her? or should I wait till she has at least her first litter? Does the mentruation period for dog last about 3 weeks? The first one was in April and it lasted for so long. Is that normal? Blush This is my first female dog as all my previous dogs were male

Thanks ,

BinSoo

Hi BinSoo,
Welcome to the forum.
May I know, are u a Mr/Miss/Mrs ? Working? Where u stay? Appreciate ur answers.
Beagles shed twice a year. The shedding season lasts about 1 - 1.5 month. U can shorthen it by regular brushing & bathing.

Hi Cdmoo,

I am a ms. I am a working adult and currently staying in Tropicana, PJ. :)

I bath her at least once in two weeks, sometimes once in a week, depending how messy she got herself into. And everytime I bath her, it seems to be a collection of hair in my bath room and she sleeps with me, so I need to average change my bed sheet every week.

Hi BinSoo,

Welcome to the forum.

If you do not have any intention to breed your beagle, there is no need to wait until she has a litter to spay her. Oh Yes, bitch menstruation period normally last up to two to three weeks.

Since she is now into her second season, taking her to MKA Obedience training will definitely create a lot of hard time for the handler of the mail dog on the training ground. The male dog will definitley be distract by the smell. It should be fun.

Bin Soo, your Snuffy is so cute!!!!! You'll have to breed her! Would Snuffy like to be the mother of Toffee's babies? Show her Toffee's pics and tell me what she thinks! :)

Toffee sheds a lot too..beagles have thick fur, even if it's short. I use Zoom Groom which is a rubber brush, really good him and he loves it. Can use it in the bath as well. Toffee gets brushed every morning.

So, looks like we may meet at this Sunday;s class. We were missing a few dogs last week. There's another beagle in that class as well.

Cheryl :)

Hi Toffee,

Thanks for your offer :). The thing is, I am still not sure if I want to breed her. I read from some dog articles that mentioning about the idle age for a female dog to get pregnant is when she is about 2 years old.. She is turning 1 year next month.

Do you know how many puppy average a Beagle can deliver in each labour? And what is the procedure we need to go through in order to breed the dog?

Snuffy could not make it for her first lesson due to that I was out of the country for work. But she will make it this sunday, can't wait for sunday to come.

Attached is snuffy photo when she was 8 months old.

Re: [kbs] Hi To All [In reply to] Can't Post

Oh..your Snuffy is so feminine and sophisticated! Mine's like a rascal! Toffee came from a litter of 5 pups and his Mom is not very large. I'm really not sure about the procedure - let them meet and mate? :) I think it's like the owner of the male can either opt for cash or 1 pup (if less than 5 in total) or 2 pups (if more than 5) or a combination of cash/pup.

Can't wait to meet you both on Sunday - btw, are you in the 5-6pm class??? Hope you are! BTW, you do know that you need to bring:

1) choke chain

2) 6 foot leash (not the retractable or chain kind)

3) plastic bag in your pocket to pick up poop

4) water and water bowl for doggie

Here's the latest pic of Toffee on his futon bed - he wan't in quite such a good mood, having been woken up and all :)

Hi Cheryl,

Toffee looks very cute in the photos too.

Am still not sure which class she belongs to, due to that we missed the first class two weeks ago.. In any case, I shall be there by 5pm. I heard there are more than 100 dogs in the class, how does the trainer able to manage it? Just curious.

Don't get mislead by snuffy's looks in the photo, she is not so feminine as it shows :) You will see it on Sunday Laugh.

Attached is another snuffy's photo taken just few days ago.

Regards,

Bin Soo

Re: [kbs] Hi To All [In reply to] Can't Post

I think you better call MKA because there are classes 4-5pm and 5-6pm. Actually, if you want, I can give you the Trainer's tel no and you can ask him yourself. It's at home, so give me a call tomorrow at the office on 20992754 and I'll tell you.

The parking is pretty full so I'm going to try to be there by 4.45pm so that Toffee has time to settle in, etc. It's 10 dogs in our group I think - Toffee, another tri colored beagle and one brown/white beagle, a dauschand, schnauzers, shit tzu and Joey, the JRT.

You may wish to ring up MKA to check who is your trainer and whether you are in 4.00pm or 5.00pm class.

Hi Bin Soo

How is Snuffy doing? I've stopped taking Toffee for classes a while back as he was extremely reluctanct to go for them (in fact, a phobia about entering into the car now as he associates it with going for classes!) after a particular bad incident during training. He's doing really great with home training now.

We should let the doggies meet one of these days...I have another friend with a Beagle puppy too...that's one of the things I missed about not taking him for classes, puppy socialisation.

Cheryl
