Rott problems.... Can't Post

I have a 7 month old AKC rottweiler. He has been to 6 weeks of training, and I train him every other day. The problem is sometimes he will growl and snap at people. He has never done this to me, but some of my family members are saying he snaps at them. Also he will chew on every thing but his toys, and will make a mess by tearing up or draging anything he can find around. He also will make big marks on the doors. I dont know how to fix this. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi there !!

My bf's used to have rott but already passed away last year. She was only 2 when she passed away. She's been suffering and they could not bear to see her in pain and lifeless. At last, my bf's family member decided to put her to sleep because there is nothing that the vet can do. After an accidentally mate with the mongrel, she has giving birth to 7 puppies. Due to this, my bf that time what inexperienced on handling rott. that's why have lead to this kind of problem.

She used to chew things also and likes to go to the kitchen and eat most of the food on the table. But my bf say that whatever they do wrong, do not use beat it. it will only bring up their anger and they will not listen to you anymore. what you can do is try to say a big "NO" whenever he do anything wrong. Some dogs tend to bark at strangers and will bark at the person that have do harm for them.

I'm having a lhasa apso mix maltese right now. he used to bark at strangers and even the person that he sees everyday. whenever he see that particular person, he will surely bark. if just hear the walking also can bark but only to that person.

Anyway, do not let your rott used to the behavior you've mentioned or else it would be more worse.

UnsureHow sad about the 2 year old rott.

I never hit my dog, and aware that it will make things wose. When I say "NO" he will back away from what he is doing or going to chew. But when I am gone for a second he will grab it. So it works a little. Thanks for the tips.

Hi AZ,

I will be getting a female rottie soon. Hopefully it will turn out fine. I guess individual dog has their own temperament. Did you bring out your rottie to socializing? I think if she has been widely exposed to lots of people/ dogs/ environment, it will help.

Hi ... Smile

At 7 months ... your Rotti will already be quite strong & heavy ...

The chewing is not a problem ... for the moment ... But I would seriously suggest that you take note about the growling and snapping ... and now ... Unimpressed

You wrote: The problem is sometimes he will growl and snap at people. He has never done this to me, but some of my family members are saying he snaps at them.

A Rottweiler is a powerful dog, even females can weigh up to 100lbs. They have strong protection drive, and require socialisation and consistent training from a young age to reach their full potential as wonderful pets ...

You have a responsibility to yourself and your pup to sort out the issue of growling and snapping now ...

Am particularly concerned that your Rotti snaps at family members ... that is not typical of the breed ... Rottweilers are usually very loyal and protective of its family.

Would like to make suggestions but need to know a little more:

(a) How long have you had the dog? When did the dog start growling & snapping? Do you have any idea how or why the growling & snapping started?

(b) When you say growl ... are you saying a full throat growl & showing of teeth?

(c) When you say snap? ... What exactly do you mean? ... Is the dog snapping with intention to bite? Or is he just mouthing?

(d) Has the Rotti bitten anyone before?

(e) Which member or members of your family has your Rotti snapped at?

(f) Sorry to ask this but - how old are you? Essentially I'd like to know how strong you are.

(g) What training method are you using? When you say train, how long is each training session? How do you usually reprimand your dog? What happens when you reprimand? What have you trained your dog to do so far?

(h) How do you socialise your dog? How often do you socialise your dog?

(i) How often & low long do you exercise your dog?

Hope to hear from you ... Smile

Cheers

first of all, rott is a really strong dog..they bite and chew on anything they could find..especially when yours is just a puppy...can be considered as one..and as for the other problem, usually rott is very protective of its own family members...so that applies to your case...they have the instinct to man and guard its own house and family members...so don't worry too much..

Making marks...using his peepee?if yes, then he's marking his territory...almost every dog makes it..

hope that helps...i have a rott tooCool!
