Hello people!!I just want to know it is safe to use Dettol as flea controlling agent. My dogs are very active and i walk them almost everyday. While walking them,they would jump to the grassy area and this would be the best time and place for them to contract fleas. As safety precaution, i bath them with flea medication.One of them develop some rashes due to sensitive skin so i switch to Dettol solution.It works but i'm concern about the effects...any ideas?thanks

Hello there...
I hear some ppl say that it's better to use Savlon then Dettol. My small doggies have rashes. I've been putting the Savlon antiseptic cream. Since you say the solution works then maybe I'll try bath them with it...

hey all, Thanks for those couple of views. By the way, I thought that Savlon and Dettol are the same. Both are antiseptic. ....I mean it would really cost a lot cheaper to use antiseptics instead of flea repellent. Furthermore, it does not work. The smell is so bad, my dog will run away. I am afraid it will damage their breathing system. So far it have been working for me. Has anyone tried this before?

Hi!! i only take the Dettol mop the floor to prevent the flea!!
it look work expecially ur furkid already have flea it will make ur house around have this " flea" also. so use Dettol to mop the floor and also wall .. u can try and see !!

i think Dettol might be too strong for your dogs. like swee eng mentioned, use savlon instead - it's milder and not harsh on your dog's skin. i'm using it too, but mine is not cream but liquid type. it was recommended by the vet.
i dab the tissue on my savlon bottle, and apply it directly to my dog's skin. it often works on rashes. but for fleas, there's plenty of other flea medication out there, perhaps u could try changing it.

Ermm.. better not lor.. I think it may be abit too strong for our dogs... there are lots of other germs killer soap out there in the pet shop.. imagine when your dog licks itself, they are licking Dettol!!!! wah lau! can MATI wan you know!

haik haik...i don't use dettol solution as spot on laa.. i normally wet my doggies first,then "marinate" my doggies with diluted dettol solution for 3-4 mins.after that i rinse thru and start shampooing the fellas...
i think i better switch to Salvon since it's not so harsh.thanks people..

wah dettol , dettol is too concentrated for dog skin and savlon is more milder should be able to use on dog skin, i think the best is still get those spray or drop for tick and flea problem from petshop will solve you flea and tick problem

Hi Kang Ser,
I've bad experience with frontline and won't want to use it again if I've a choice. It's like this.... my dog was tick free ... it's jes that one day I decided to simply put some frontline on them for further prevention. The next thing I realise, they have ticks again. So I haven't use it again after that...

what I do is fill a bucket with water and pour some dettol into it. The water will turn milky and rinse him with it. start with the neck down and then using your hands, try to massage the solution into your dog's hair.
Then after I will scrub him with his regular shampoo. that's it! and you'll have a great smelling dog knowing that the anti-bacteria is working. somehow the smell of dettol is very reassuring.

that's what I do. i don't mind even if JD smells of dettol. just remember not to use dettol alone without water. Sweeng is worried that i might burn my dog.

Yeah.. afraid that when they licked themself.. they might consume too much and MATI!!! I'll try next week when Jaz gets better.. found some 'nah nah' at the side of her ears last nite!!! scarry man.. we tried clean it off with Dettol as well.. I think must be that she scratched it or kena flea bite ler... kesian her only..

can dettol repels fleas and ticks? is it for prevention or to kill the ticks? i've tried using dettol and 'tactic' to mop floors but i think that wouldn't get rid off the 'kutus'... but the dettol has a deodorize effect lah...

i noticed that since using Dettol, the ticks just falls off from JD and onto the floor. I pick it up with tweezer and feed it to my lou han fish. DO NOT TRY TO BURST THEM. some might carry eggs and bursting it will distribute the eggs all over. thus the cycle continues again when they hatch and find their way to your pet love.
