Adopting a Rescue Dog Can't Post

I am planning bring home a rescued dog from PAWs this weekend. My concern is as I have a healthy shih tzu at home,

besides bring the rescued dog to the vet first for check up, is there anything else I can do to ensure my new buddy do not carry any illness (as some can only be detected after sometime)? Is there any special illnesses screening? I know the best person to ask is the vet but he is only recommending general check up with only one injection. Advice appreciated.

Hi there,
You may check with your vet if he offers indepth checking eg. X-ray, orthopedic scan...
