Hi, Just to answer your question... Yes, you can spay your dog when it is in heat... but there is increased risk because when your dog is in heat, the blood vessels supplying the ovaries and uterus are larger than normal and more delicate. This is because, during heat, the ovaries and uterus need more blood supply to sustain development. So, when the vet does the spay, the ligatures (knots) may slip more easily or the blood vessels may rupture more easily. The vet would probably charge you extra because more ligatures need to be applied for safety's sake and your dog may need to be put on drip in case of blood loss. So, my recommendation is not to spay your dog when it is in heat. After all, it takes only a few more days before the heat is over, then you can choose to spay your dog.
