There are a lot of write up in Doberman Club of America on Blues. If you have never own a dob before do not get a blue, just too much trouble and you will not be able to enjoy your dog.

The blue has a genetic disposition towards a skin condition, and the progeny will be affected. Hence, the blue is not recognised by the FCI standard.

I would advise to avoid it. However, this does occur occasionally.

Hi Derdoberman

What you said is true, i have check quite a lot and all is no good to the dobe as if you breed red tan and black tan the chance to have blue is very high. What is your comment?

i think if you speak to one of the many good breeders here.. like Dr Dave, you will learn that the blue is a genetic ressesive gene.. it can occur even if you breed black/black, red/red/ etc. brreeding red with black does not increase chances of blue or even fawn color

It seem that you are very well verse of dobe - just out of curiosity, you must have encouter with dobe for years? I have decided not to have it as it will be problematic in long run. Is not the money but time factor concern.
