Dear Mum2jude,

Thank you for your warm welcome! I would love to, in fact I have posted in the K9 trekker forum the first day to find out more from Amanda85. The event is still going this Saturday. However, I might skip this Saturday round because Jojo, my mix lab/dal needs to attend basic obedience class on the same day. In addition, I am a bit worried of her joining the crowd as yet because she is not use to other dogs and will give a warning growl when others sniff her for a greeting. With people, I am not sure, it just depend on who it is...hehe. In fact she needs more dog lovers who are understanding to help her overcome the lack of confidence problem. I mean dog lovers who dare to come near and say hi to her and pat her slowly. Tongue So, hopefully, with lots of training and socialization, she will become a normal dog again... FYI, I adopted her from a rescue organization in Ikano November last year.

If you have the same problem like mine with your dog, feel free to share it with me! Thanks.

Stella

Hey, Stella...

My Daisy is just like ur Jojo. She's not all that friendly with new dogs. She also growls when they approach her. She's fine with humans, tho. Loves human touch and company. Needless to say, awful guard dog... lol!

Where do u send Jojo for OB training? I'd like to send Daisy for OB as well but havent been able to find a class. I dun want to pay for private lessons. Dunno if my silly girl will learn anything, waste my $$...

Dear Jo-Ann,

Ur Daisy is alot better than Jojo lo...my Jojo, afraid of both people and dogs hahaha. Maybe kena abuse by both before......hehe. I send Jojo to Mr. Badri's K9 Training School @ Pet Safari, Ikano. The class is on Saturday and Sunday starting at 4 pm - 5 pm. I think puppy.com.my also offer OB classes, its just that the training center to far for me. Why not you you just drop by this Saturday and take a look? Maybe you and Daisy will like it there. But my classmates all got big dog like GSD, Doberman, Mastiff etc...my Jojo is the only medium size dog in there, Unsure, however still got 1 Maltese who is the smallest of the lotSly.

Hi Nicole...

How was last week class? Hope she can proceed to final test soon. Last week I saw that Bailey has done quite well on the stay...just need to brush up abit..coz she has been staying there quite a long period (however I didnt know how long she suppose to stay, anyway) despite all distractions! Kepp it up...she is almost there.

My poor Jojo did not enjoy the training last Sunday, kena harsh diciplinary action Once the class ended, her tail starts wagging and pulling me all the way out of the class Mad. I am just a little confuse here, I am not sure which way to use , harsh or soft but firm method to train her. Coz I have read training books saying that harsh treatment will make her obey but the end result is not a happy dog who willingly comply. But then it work effectively on stopping her from biting people and dogs.

Hi Stella!!

How's Jojo doin? I hope last sun's class did not frighten her too much, i hav to admit the correction was pretty harsh Mad .. I was suprised how come mr.choong handled Jojo all of a sudden!... Anyhow, i think training shud be made fun & motivating for our kids so they will enjoy doin wats bein told. It shud be two-way, with our kids cooperating wf us..

Then again, at times Bailey oso challenge me too much i leave her to mr. badri to intervene. Her down-stay is steady, probly bcos we of her hip problem. She probly gets tired easily & discomfort on the hips.. Crazy At times soft approach will not work, harsh correction is not necessary unless it's a serious offense lor, ie: biting the owner... most dogs will 'bully' their owners given the chancePirate

I hope Jojo wont feel uncomfortable to go for class tis weekend, u mite probly need to standby lots of yummy treats!

Re: [koruchann] Greetings from Klang! [In reply to] Can't Post

Yeah, Jojo did try to bite Mr. Choong, but after that she dont dare already...Pirate Hope Jojo will forget that incident la..I will get a different treat next week, coz when she scared she dont even want her regular treat. Last time she also try to bite me,,,,I approached her slowly, and feed her plenty of treats but keep my distance, after 3 weeks I have won her heart and she accepted me as her friend. Then I was able to teach her some basics obe. at home. Then I I found that she is possesive with her chew bone....growl when try I take it away..my solution was the next time I give her a new bone, I hold the other end, just like sharing a bone together,, give it and take it back repeatedly, and to make her realise that the bone is mine, and that I just loan it to her. It works!

Unfortunately, I found that she still do it to other people and dogs but me. Thats why brought her for training to socialise and I believe she needs plenty of those before she can even become a completely different dog. Tongue By the way, does Bailey still pulling you on leash? I have read a book before, and the method really helps me and Jojo, she pulled too, but after I use that method, she walk so nicely on the leash now. If you are interested let me know. P/S Do you have a chat messenger?

Re: [koruchann] Greetings from Klang! [In reply to] Can't Post

Hey Nicole,

I did this with Jojo on the leash training. Hopefully it will work on Bailey too, but if its not, still worth a try! Here it is: I use a 6 feet leash, and a choke collar. BY holding only the end of the leash with your right hand, walk with the dog on your left. The leash will form a "U" shape between you and the dog. Place your right hand near your belly button and keep the position the entire walk. Keep your left hand free and only use it for corrections. The corrections are just a very fast snaps, no pulling or jerking needed. So, start walking with her by calling her name try your best to get her attention. As expected, she will start to move forward, and pass you, the thing is you need to anticipate it, and correct fast. Get your left hand ready somewhere in the mid length of leash, once she stride pass you and the leash begins to tighten, use your left hand and snap side ways or downwards once and at the same moment, turn 180 degrees and walk completely the opposite direction with your right hand still at your belly button. You can loop the end of leash on your thumb if you worry that the leash will slip. When she comes back to you with the leash loose, give her lots of praise and do it all over again until she start to see where you're going! This method is just to stop the pulling, it will not teach the dog to walk nicely beside you just as yet. The objective is to get her walking with you, with lots of "slack" on the leash bet. you and the dog. In other words, the leash should maintain a nice "U" shape while walking. But remember not to pull her or hold her tightly back to you or in position, let her make the mistakes and you will just snap once and walk purposefully to the opposite direction without looking at her. When she comes back to you with an amazed look, praise her..Hope that helps! Whats your ID?
