Eye Ulcer Can't Post

Hi ,

My baby Bichon Frise recently got infection of eye ulcer and i send her to 24 hrs clinic for checking. I was told by the VET that she needs to undergone a surgery. With no other alternatives, we agreed.

She looks like different after the surgery. She doesnt eat and drink much, only eat the food when i feed her, why?she was not like this b4 the surgery. Also, after back from the surgery, she will jump up on me when i let her out from the cage (this is what she never behave b4).. Im so worried she will go insane bcos she really behave differently.

Can anyone tell me how to take care a puppy after surgery???She is only 7 mths ++ old... so careless am i, forgot to request a report from the VET after the surgery, shouldnt i request for report??

Re: [supermutts] Eye Ulcer [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi,

Thanks for the concern...in fact i also dont know what kind of surgery the VET has done to my NANA. He just told us her eyes has one white color dot inside, like a cataract for human, so must do the surgery n take it out....

Her eyes now is like splint with a plastic and couldnt open until 2 weeks time then back to AMC for check up again...I dont have any report also...aiks...shld i demand for the report from them?? What i have is the bills and one body check up form (eg, like human body check up, eg:cholestrol 5.6 bla bla bla...etc) is this consider a report?

This is the 1st time in my life my puppy hospitalized and had surgery. But now, her emotions is stable ,just that she doesnt really like to eat her food again. So, i bought a new cane of chicken meat for her last nite, she likes it alot and finish it very fast, is that means she already feel bored for her old food (round sharp tiny bisckut) and its time to change for other food for her???

That bills really surprise us , so so so EXP...but what to do?

i have difficulties in training her to poo & pee....haiz....always like to poo here n there when i let her out from the cage....how ah..headache lo..

u can ask AMC to give u a copy of whatever report at least. If xray was done, just say u wan back the xray. Basically u paid for it mah.

Yes AMC is freaking EXPENSIVE!!! My dog went there for a broken leg and in total his bills are about RM800+. Next month one more check. They were quite reluctant to give me a saturday appointment at first. Then I demanded for a referral letter asking them to transfer my case to their branch either in Subang or Ikano as it's MUCH nearer to my place. Cos if they cant give me a saturday appointment, they better give me a referral letter as it's NOT convenient for me to keep going back to downtown KL mannn..... so in the end, they gave me a saturday appointment. Hahahahaha Tongue

Then again, they are the only 24hr animal hospital in the country. So kinda expect that price lah. I even sent my other dog for his proheart jab there. Paid slightly more because so much speculation with the jab, I figured if anything happened also, it's a freaking hospital and they would be able to treat him there and then.

You walked into AMC, u better be prepared with couple of hundreds and maybe even a plastic card. But my last visit there, to my utter surprise, the bill was only RM7! Hahahahahaha in a shocked mode, I asked the receptionist so many times "How much again ah? RM7 or Rm47?" Hahahahahah she said RM7!

Re: [evahoo] Eye Ulcer [In reply to] Can't Post

good to noe ur nana is getting better. nana reminds me of
the manga Nana.. n' oso the jap movie, wit mika nakashima...

ok, lets hear more from u.

how on the first place tht u discovered, nana has eye infection or
ulcer?? what really happen?

n' also y u have chosen AMC?
they are one (only one?) of the vet who claim to be able
to do eye surgery.

one way to be a well informed dog owner is to
get to know all bout ur dog and also the common diseases.

in this case of nana, u notice there is something wrong with eye.
but u duno wht it is, so u bring it to the vet.

when u are at the vet, dun be afraid to ask questions and take notes.
bcos u have the right to know.

a good vet will take the time, sit down with u, and try to
explain in detail what has really happened to ur dog,
or wht he suspects.

a good vet will , tell u the choices that u can make,
and giv u good advice.

after u get infos from the vet, then u can do ur own research,
online, or off line, to make the best choice for ur dog,
and learn more about the disease etc.

some vet will not bother to explain long, cos they know pet
owners don't know that much, and yes some pet owners
they don't care to know much, i;ve seen it,

if anything is wrong with their pet, they will just send it to the vet,
and let them 'fix' it la... that's all.....

don't get satisfied with just,
" ok ur dog needs eye surgery, bring it here trow, we will kautim"
after 2 weeks it will be ok"

so... until here, hope to hear from u again....

We're the new age dog-owners mannn..... not like our parent's generation liao lor.

Like what most of my doctors at my workplace comment about: "These days, become doctor very susah already lor.....patients are getting smarter"

i found out in the morning that her eyes is hardly open and i was rushing to work, so when i came back home in the evening, her eyes bcome worst!

All the Vet shops already closed around 9pm++, with no choice, i send my baby to AMC...

The VET there told us if we dont perform the surgery, her eyes will sooner or later become blind as the small dot inside there will grow bigger n bigger....

Thats why i dont have time for other opinions as she looks so pity n pain...

Just hope she can get well soon...the BIG collar on her neck there its really annoys her and she always try to get it out !!

must do eye surgery??

that u have to go ask doctor if u wana know.

as for the owner, she have to take the vet's advice,
if anything happens, who will be responsible?

u should recommend ur vet to us, since he can cure
eye ulcer with medicine. we might need his help someday
who knows.

so pls, we hope u giv us more info, don't
be a one liner.

eva,

hows nana now?

u said her eyes become worst, means?
swollen?

or u open her eyes to check it?

the small dot is on the eye ball?

when u see the vet , ask them what surgery has
been performed.

here are some infos on corneal ulcers.
and one surgery is mentioned, third eye flap surgery.

most early ulcers are treated with medication.
so unless ur nana's is very serious....

Re: [supermutts] Eye Ulcer [In reply to] Can't Post

My nana eyes is swollen and i bring her to see another VET near , cant remember the name, but the dr is call francis (Junior francis cos got 2 francis there). he is a very nice Dr. He told me there is no improving after the surgery (about a week) and i also notice that my NANA eyes is getting swollen and a little bit bleeding!!!

Luckily, my neighbour recommend me to see this Dr, if not, i got to go down to tat VET again for check up (which he said go bk again after 2 weeks of surgery)

i knew that some ulcer and cure by medicine but that DR told us there is no other alternative except surgery, waht can we do, of course we trust their professsion, but now.......im very disappointed!!!

Anyway, im confident that my NANA this time get the right DR to cure her eyes!

Re: [evahoo] Eye Ulcer [In reply to] Can't Post

wow this is not good news, since its not ok after surgery,

so wht does this Dr F recommend now? since its now swollen
and bleeding.

what makes u not go back to the vet who does the surgery,
cos they are responsible for it.

if its third eye lid surgery that has been done,
after a period of time, the suture has to be removed, to expose the eye again.

so is this the case?

keep us updated. thx.
