Re: [Snow yi] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

hi snow

ur dog's having skin problems, u take him to the vet
get some jabs, pop some pills, gettin better again,
after a while start having problems again...

read up what bulldog has to say about this ....
hope u already have.
http://www.puppy.com.my/...psed;page=last;#last

skin problems normally its because of allergy,
food allergy, and many other allergies
some disease could also cause skin problems,
so u have to make sure your dog is not suffering
from those diseases.

so we assume that ur dog is having food allergy,

what brand of dog food are u feeding your dog now?
and pls list all the dog foods u have fed your dog
since the day u have brought him home.

for me i would not prefer to take the dog for some jabs and pills, every time he has a breakout of rashes etc.

u might worry about him, seeing part of his skin red
and he kept on scratching until the skin breaks.

frm my experience with my dogs, these will go away
after a while, and it will occur again.
u just have to check your dog and make sure its not
getting too serious, apply some antibiotic cream(frm vet) to the wounds, put e' collar on the dog to prevent
excessive licking. The condition will improve by itself.

U should change dog food to test
whether the condition will improve.

until ur reply, i will post further comments.

Re: [Snow yi] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

yup yup...me agree with supermutts on the food allergy. Donnu why a lot of the dogs here are very prone to food allergy. Crazy

regarding fur and kid's asthma....well if u ask me, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING can cause a kid to get asthma attack lah. Dust, Pollen, Hair, certain food, sand, bla bla bla.....the list goes on (mostly air-borne allergens). Aiya adults also can kena what. Just not so severe only. And that's called SINUS problem. U sneeze like there's no tomorrow for one minute and the next minute u're perfectly fine. Same theory lah tu.

First ppl have to understand what in the world asthma attack is all about and not just the difficulty in breathing side of the story. Ppl have to understand what causes restriction of the airways and how to prevent them. Asthma is a form of allergy attack. Unlike skin allergies which usually results in itchiness and rashes, asthma is a form of allergy that attacks the airway tracts causing it to become inflammed, swollen and hence narrowing down the tract at the same time produces even more mucus. All causing breathing difficulty. The inhaler prescribed by doctors are usually anti-histamine based used to surpressed ur immunity so that ur body will not attack itself and hence relieving the person of the asthma by opening up the airway tract and surpressing mucus production.

Asthma attacks is extremely prone in children simply because they have a more sensitive airway tracts. So most kids will grow out of it. I was one of them. When I was younger, I had asthma attacks. The asthma attack usually happens when I'm playing sports. Running in the field and all that. It wasnt my dog. We had a spitz and it was an indoor dog. Went to so many doctors and specialists and finally a paeditrician (actually a family friend who just got back from the UK after practising there for like 10 years) isssued me a letter which kept me off the field for 2 years. I was in Std 1 then. He even told my family, most kids are like that and eventually almost all of them grow out of it. But how old will they stop having all this attacks differs with individual. It depends on the child's immunity. I started playing sports again in Std 4 and I was perfectly fine from that. No more coughing, no more wheezing, no more phlegm and I was off the inhaler since Std 3. For that 2-3 years that I can remember, we had to put Snowy outdoor and my nanny would clean the whole house with dettol. Its a precaution asked to be taken by the doctor to eliminate all allergens. But I used to sneak Snowy in and hide her in my room.

I remember in one of my lectures last time, the prof did mention something like "If a kid has an asthma attack, it's most probably an allergy reaction triggered by an air-source allergen; If an adult of 30years old has asthma, they better get themselves check for auto-immune diseases" Never really made much sense back then when I was still a sophomore in uni. Crazy

Oh well, I know it can be difficult trying to explain that to some ppl. I've tried and gave up. So I don even bother anymore. easy way out, I dont welcome asthmatic and asthma prone walking subjects in my house. Enter my house at ur own risk. I always make it a known fact to everyone who wants to come to my house that I have to TWO SUPER-FUR-SHEDDING dogs IN the house who happens to own all the chairs, rugs, mats, beds and sofas in the house and a couple of slaves who are too blardy lazy to vacuum every week what more everyday. The only reason why my dogs are never allowed in my grandma's house is because, there's too many old fragile antiques lying around and my 2 crazy hantu might go berserk and banged and smashed everything into pieces in a blink of an eye and never because "aiya......FUR EVERYWHERE" Sly

Hope this helps. And keep us updated on the situation at home ok.

Re: [supermutts] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Supermutts,

I really dont know my dog have allergy to food at the first place. I been changing few times of his food. Now i finall cut out his canned food.

1) Nutro Lamb & Rice for puppies

2) Eukanuba for puppies

3) Evolve for puppy

4) Eagle Pack Holistic Food, Salmon and Achovies

Before that for th first 3 months i fed him together with canned food I think is lousy brand then i change to evolve canned food. So from today onwards i stop feeding him canned food and just the holistic food. He is taking medication and with cream and the vet advise not too fed his canned food so i stop and also he advise fed him cod liver oil so I think i will try navacote plus for him.

I really hope he will stop suffering. Thanks for the advice and I will keep u inform how he goes.

Thanks

Hey, Goofy did have skin problems like yours too. But my vet don't rely too much on jab and medication. He said too much medication is not good for doggies. I brought Goofy to the vet for quite few times regarding his skin, only the 1st time got jab.

The vet just suggested a new way to check Goofy's allergic. You can try too.

Re: [supermutts] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi supermutts,

My vet said he allergy of too much protein, he advise me do not fed him protein more then 26%. He also said that not to fed him bone, canned food and other treats. My clifford has taken 2 weeks medication and now I have stop his medication and just fed him Eagle Pack Holistic food, see he will still feel itchy on his skin or not.

He been taking his kibble more then 3 months, i started fed him since 18th May till now, but before that I mixed with canned food and now coming to 3rd weeks he just ask only his kibble. I will monitor for another a month, see how he reaction through his food. If he have skin allergy because of his food. Do you think he will be allergy to Salmon & Anchovies? Because the salmon with have lowest protein only 23%. The rest of the flavour like lamb and rice has 26% protein. I'm not sure should i change the flavour?

When i got Cliffod he already 4 months, he was born on 29 July 2006 and i got him in early Nov. So he started his skin problem since end of Dec 06, where i started mixed his kibble with canned food. That time I dont know his allergy of his food.

I do fed him some fruits, like orange, papaya once a while. What i do now is I steam carrot for him last week and he finish the carrots. Should I give him more vegetables?

Hope to hear from you.

Thanks

hola bweno dias,

is ur clifford ( wah sounds like the most exp car alarm... jk jk Sly)

geting better now? i hope so.

the thing with these skin problem is. if its not skin disease or other disease, or mange etc...

it happens, once in a while, like a break out, then it heals, then after a few months, it happens again, so it is really difficult to determine wht is the problem.... it really sucks....

if clifford it ok now, u've stopped the medication, he is ok, u still feed
the Epack, salmon anchovy, he likes it, then keep on feeding it.
until the next break out happens, if it happens... then we only think
of wht to do next.

cos when he starts to hv skin problems in DEC, u are not feeding him
this dog food rite?

those fruits n' carrots are like treats n' snacks when u feed him in small quantities, so it should be ok.

Try to change to a better doctor if you feel that your vet is giving too much medication for your dog. One traditional and very effective and cheap way of curing this is to take the dog to bath at sea water everyday for a week. No harm trying though but this has cured quite a lot of skin problems. Dun think i need to say more of the benefits of sea water.

Re: [all] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

i have malaseb as well, seems very good marketing huh, all vet rekemen using it, in fact its kinda poisonous ...

what i feel about these small small skin problems is maybe just let it be la, its not kinda serious and sometimes will have a break out... don't wana torture d dog too much, not all dog will have wonderful skin,,,

i think chances are those of you who are not teens anymore will have frens who has acne problems on the face, some are in 30s - even 40s, still have acne problem, y still dont go see doc to get cure? most likely they have tried many dermatologist and is diff and expensive to cure, so just let it be la....

its just cosmetic , they can live with it.

so this applies to the dog as well. unless its sarcoptic or demodectic mange, then must seek medical attention.

these dog skin condition is just too common these days, cos dogs are simply bred and sold.
i have posted some books about treating these problems from the source, which is not what the vets are doing now, they are treating the symptoms only .. so it seems.....

Re: [all] Skin Problem [In reply to] Can't Post

went home n' dig out the malaseb green bottle, mine ard expired, RM 37 last time, there's a BIG "POISON" word on top, actually its used to treat fungal infections and to kill micro organism, all those names stated there, u can have a whole day reading bout the infos if u dig online.

last time, i was desperate with my mutts skin conditions as well, tht's y wht ever the vet rekemen i also take, but when you think properly, how sure is the vet that the skin prob is cause by fungal infection? no concrete diagnosis done, no results can be seen, actually they are just doing trial n' error, poor dog, how can i apply something that says SKIN IRRITANT to a dogs' skin....??

i supposed the POISON label is when the dog (even human) misakenly swallow it, but it doesnt mean u r putting the POISON over the dog's body.. but i do agree on the unwanted effect of malaseb where it do causes skin to become dry after shower, that's why a conditioner bath will sort of lessen the dry skin condition, and Malaseb is for antibacterial and antifungal use (not just fungus)

brudder, a poison is a poison.....

in science, there is no such thing/classification for any substance that defines something which is poison " when u swallow it " then harmless if you apply only on the skin....

and yes when we apply malaseb on the dog, we are applying poison on the dog... simple as that....
