Affordable car to bring dog and small family around? Can't Post

hi ppl,

I'm actually hunting for a a car/MPV/4WD that is big enuff to carry a petcargo 500 and 1 baby seat, few adult and yet is not too expensive.

Any idea what type of car i should get?

So far i got these suggestion

1) Avanza 1.5 - cheap but quite small

2)Innova - spacious.. not too expensive

3)AD Resort - have to get 2nd hand.. but it will be cheaper then buying new

Ad resort only available in 2nd hand. No more production in this model.

Avanza too small.

Innova big but high fuel consumption.

Naza Ria big & cheaper than Innova but also high fuel consumption.

Nissan Serena Highway Star big & comfortable, good fuel consumption. Price abit more compare to Naza & Innova.

I think that it. Other brand & model are more luxury. Don't think it worth buying it unless money is no problem for you.

how about d x-trail? not bad?

but if you don't mind 2nd hand...get a rav4. the previous generation is no bad. beauty of toyota - engine is reliable.

super cheap now is the toyota prado (the ones the hitz cruisers used to drive around). downside is the petrol consumption is a wee high. but its comfortable n roomy ~ an absolute hit with the human kids n furkids @ home.

hi chris, evie and taro-san,

thanks for the reply.

chris,

I have did a google for serena, it really very spacious inside! Anyway, the old model is price around RM45-55k and the new model (2nd hand lah) is price around RM80-100k and the brand sparking new from showroom is RM120k.

My wife doesnt link either model cos she say too van like.. aiyo.. headache already.

I found that the new serena look like alphard from the back.. it have the same square backside.

taro-san,

U THINK I PRINT $$ AH!!

evie,

prado seem like a good suggestion, will search for more info.

btw fyi, i m leaning more towards new Innova.. around 107k... there go my $$!!

some of the member is an car forum actually complain about the high service cost in UMW..

is it true??

Any models & brands of MPV, SUV & 4x4 are high in maintaince compare to passenger car.

My choice are Serana Highway Star. Design not that attractive but very comfortable and stable for 6ppls travelling in high speed

How about Volvo V50???

UMW may cost a wee more but you know your vehicle is in good hands. worth going back to them if your vehicle is brand new from them. Helps in keeping the resale value a bit ( that's what we saw with when we sold off the Camry).

if you have a recon or parallel Toyota, you may opt for some Toyota specialists..who will cost less. Without going to UMW you also save cost since you can buy your own parts from authorised Toyota dealers or agents and bring it to the mechanic.

wish...are you referring to the local assembled or the parallel? difference is the options and finishing.

They planning to launch two new model this year (1 model for passenger car & 1 model for MPV). Don't think the above model will launch so soon.

They going to launch the 1.6(M) (A) & 1.8(A) Nissan Latio first. This model already in assembly at Segambut & Serendah plant.

livina looks good. 1.8 is a good choice. with that sort of frame, a 1.5 may be sluggish and also not so efficient.

heard its somewhere in october and 1.8 full specs shd be 100k odd. nissan...you know who to look for to get the best deal lor Wink

seriously it looks good....but i'm still quite keen on d toyota. either the wish or the caldina. wish is a save bet...caldina is funner but car is older lor...aiks...must work hard to pay for car again. hehehe.

Re: [a_evie] Affordable car to bring dog and small family around? [In reply to] Can't Post

hi everyone,

just a little update on my MPV hunt.

Brought my whole family (baby, wife and myself - minus the furkid) for a test drive last weekend and below is my observation.

Toyota Innova 2.0

Pros - Spacious and luxury... come with gate-type gear shift (WAH), nice opitron meter, 2 row of ac back blower.

Cons - Floor board is too high, my wife have difficulties boarding the car will holding the baby. The ride a a bit bouncy and the steering feel very light.. i feel as if the car is floating at some point.. not good for me as i'm use to the responsive steering of a waja.

Toyota Advanza 1.5

Pros - Values for money, 1.5 have nice exterior compare to 1.3, engine is responsive

Cons - space is a bit tight for the 2nd and 3rd row.. my spikey hair is touching the when i sit in the 3rd row.

eeemm.... now i am thinking of getting a 2nd hand serena highway star.. price around 75-88k for 03-04 car...

time for test drive again..

wow....fun rite testing cars?

btw the innova & avanza...the innova is definitely better. the suspension us perhaps a wee soft but you can actually have that "improved".

isn't the serena kinda van like? for that 2 price..why up the budget and hang on till the new nissans are released.

btw...seen anything interesting in motor trader?

yep...in oct. but it seems like its a good wait. still keeping the waja? if yes..then hang on for a while more...

the prob with 2nd hand or reconded cars is that you do not know the history of the car. and this can pose to be quite an expensive experience sometimes.

ask for the service records since it is 2nd hand and do bring your trusted mechanic along if you are serious about buying the car.

Hi Chr

Since u r in this industry, i would be much appreciated if u could share with us the pros and cons between a pick up truck (frontier, hilux, ...etc) and a SUV/MPV. Which is more ideal for bringing large breed dogs with small family?

Currently, I m using a very old model of 4 x 4. The maintenance is really killing me. So, I am planning to replace it with something more economical and practical. I like the pick up truck a lot, but still undecided if it is a wise choice to me..Please advise. Thanks.

Have a Great Day.
