Is it worth it? Can't Post

Dear all,

Would really appreciate some feedbacks on this. I saw a pure MKA cert ACS up for sale at a pet store yesterday. The best price offered was RM1.4k which includes all vaccinations and bla bla bla. The puppy is 2 months old and it's a male.

I have the intention of getting another dog for Rascal as his company. And I have been looking around, look see look see, pet shops, SPCA, PAWS, some of the breeders (legal or not I donnu lah, but its thru friend's friend lor) and somehow nothing really catches my attention.

I'm sure many of you know I took rascal from a rescue centre in the US and I paid an amount which I think the rescue centre deserves for taking care of their dogs so well. And the reason I picked him because he was just it. Just the right one, just clicked the minute he walked up to me excitedly. I have no intention of getting a ACS or a specific breed or even sex.

This time around, another ACS caught my attention. But this ACS comes with a price tag that I am not sure if its worth it? For a certified one, is it worth the price. I mean I havent exactly been looking at dog prices because I do not know which breed would catch my attention. Previously I almost got a JRT for RM1.2k with cert. But in the end I gave up the idea because if i were to get the guy it was because of pity. He had a very sad look on his face and that look kinda melt my heart in the first place. So I thought that wasnt right, if it doesnt click, it wont work.

But this time around, the ACS really hit it right. He responded to me so well, was very attentive and active. It just felt right but should I fork out that amount of money just for a certified dog. I know some would argue, you might never find another one which is exactly the same. Yes, TRUE...i totally agree which is why I flew rascal home cos I know I would never another dog like him.

I'm thinking of taking Rascal there today to have a look at the puppy. If he shows any signs of aggression or anything bad, then for sure i'll let the tiny one go. I don want to take the risk of bringing one home and wait rascal will tear him apart. Maybe not intentionally but he might try to get the tiny guy to play tug of war with him and scared will bully the small one to death.

But if rascal adapts to him fine, no agression, no jealousy, should I fork out that amount for the new fella? Would 2 ACS at home turn the whole house around? Both males somemore but if i were to get tiny one, i will get him neutered ASAP. No intention of breeding and no intention to go for show biz. No balls cannot enter competition one meh?

Please advise. I would like to hear as many feedbacks as possible by 5PM today. Cos thats when i finish work and no PC at home mah. hahahahaha

I have absolutely no idea what the going rate is for the ACS in KL, but you might consider the following:

1 Do you really want to get a dog from a petshop, for reasons discussed a length in this forum?

2 If the ACS you saw is IT, then a couple of hundred more, if the petshop fella is not willing to kanjia, is no impediment; if you're very worried about getting fleeced, perhaps the ACS is not really IT - but you should certainly get definite information about the market rate for an ACS in KL, at least to establish a baseline for the haggling. I can't imagine you'd pay less than a thousand and a few hundred for a decent ACS in KL. But I might be wrong.

3 If your main reason for getting another ACS is to get a companion for you existing dog, why are you so worried about aggression? Is he dog-aggressive? not properly socialised? Perhaps this is not the right time to get another dog?

Yealah...that's true....getting it from a petshop is kinda really off though. She did give me the breeders name lah, but i forgot what is it already. Actual asking price was 1.6k, knocked down to 1.4k.

I don think my current dog is aggressive is any form. Just scared he is too playful lah. Imagine tortoise as big as a 50cents coin also he throw his tug of war toy to him already. Aiyo....my heart almost stop mann when he did that. So i also scared he might play with this fella so rough lor. Not scared he will kill the new fella lah.
