I taught Oreo "come" and "sit" command. He's quite ok with it. I'm looking forward to "down" command but i've no idea how to train himmind sharing me some tips? missing Oreo very much, loving Viki to the max.
there are 2 diff method tat i adopt myself...(juz in case ur dog try to escape, put him onleash 1st)
1st method : ask ur dog to sit 1st....n later hold a treat infront of him n lure him down by moving down ur hand touching d floor...some dogs will follow d treat n eventually lie down....
2nd method : harsh method....ask ur dog to sit....n then pull down both his front leg...if he attempt to move up, use ur body to push his backbody down, while ur hand remain holding on to his front paws.....it might looks sumthing like a wrestling wit ur dog, but the idea is to make ur dog achieve tat 'down' position.... made him remain at that position for 2 sec n reward him....try to repeat several times at once until not force action are required, instead applied little pressure behind his back to remind him.... wit 1 hand holding d treats infront trying to lure him down n another hand applying force on his back....
hope u understand...

The using of the treat to lure it down and pulling both front legs down is suitable for his dog. Not very harsh tho. The harshest one is by pulling the dog down by its collar or choke collar. The most harshest one is by kicking the leash down fast & hard to make it go down. Only suitable for big & disobedient dogs. But ofcourse, please don't use these two methods yet for your little puppy. Might break its neck! Good luck in teaching it...
I trained Benji how to "DOWN" for 2 weeks plus now but he still doesn't understand it. I made him "SIT" and then, I will gently pull his two forelegs to the "DOWN" position. He used to struggle with me but not now and will remain in the DOWN position until I said COME. But the thing is that, he won't do the DOWN position himself. He waited for me to shift him to the DOWN position. I am afraid he thought that is the way ----> Waiting for me to do the DOWN position...hmmm...any idea?!
We have a new member in our family! Her name is Jessie, a toy poodle!
perhaps u would like to use food to lure him instead...
well, for me, i use food..put it near his nose (he should be in sit position) and slowly bring the food down and then u slowly bring it forward.like 'L'...
unless he truly has the idea of wat is down, he will always wait for u to help him...n one thing, u can use the treat he craves most...perhaps by then, he will show u that he actually knows what is 'down'
coz last time when i teach sasha how to shake hand, she will always wait for me to take her hand...n this last for a few days till i started to wonder why she takes such a long time to learn..n then i chg the treat...ermm...cant remember wat i gave her at that time but she loves it..so when i say shake hand, immediately she shake hand with me d notti girl
