Ya lah true. Eh, but some stray/pariah dogs are abit crack you know! Some do really come forward & bite. Eh, even if he gets a good breed German Shepperd, definitely it will not go forward and attack robbers or etc without any proper schutzhund training. In the beginning when you first get whatever dog you get, ofcourse it doesn't know anything about attacking. At my training area, I've seen some crack GSDs & mongrels be4. Both breeds almost have the same characteristics. Most of the time, the dominant male dog will go forward & attack any other male dogs it doesn't like. But so far non attack owner nor trainer nor other people. But you may find one or two that attack their own owners, etc, etc. The dog doesn't know anything about protecting & attacking at the correct time. It cannot just simply attack anybody it likes. This usually comes from crack dogs, pedigrees or non-pedigrees. Some have their own natural instinct to attack but some don't. Some can be really friendly & timid towards other dogs & people. So if he wants to have a dog that will protect his home, his family, his whatever property he owns, he needs to train it to become a real good guard dog. Anyway, everything starts from OB training first. It must know the basic even be4 he learns schutzhund stuff. Am I right? And guard dog doesn't mean just leaving it in the porch with no human, dog interaction, whatsoever! People always think, guard dogs are suppose to be left in the porch to take care of the home. But that's just making the dog to become crack & useless actually. So actually any dog can be a gurad dog, it can be GSD, Malinois, Dobermann, Labradors or even a MinPin. But MinPins are not really suitable altho some can be quite ferocious but just one kick, it'll go flying! So everything starts with a good OB & schutzhund training. That's why I said, why get an expensive dog when a mongrel/pariah will do the job. But ofcourse, training is the answer to a good guard dog! And both GSD & pariah dogs are not that easy to train...
