Bark, Bite and Jump on Ppl..aggresive???? Can't Post

My toy poodle, sasha is only 3 mths old....however, each time when we tried to play with her, esp asking her to jump or to catch her toy...at first she will obey..but after a while, she will start to jump and tried to bite ppl's toes, fingers etc.....i'm not sure if this is her way of showing her affections and she considers that as playing or is she just agressive?

she will also try to bite after her meal...seems to me like each time she starts to play, she will start jumping on ppl, barking or even biting.....the way she plays with her toys, she will growl at the toy and bite it agressively too....what can i do to make her less agressive? is her behaviour consider normal?

please advise......Frown

The good news is that it is a puppy and that this behavior can be corrected. You have to show that you are the boss, in dog language that you are the alpha dog. You are leading the pack and no discussion about it. That means that you have to say very firmly and very stern NO when you do not like a certain behavior. You have to be consistent and not one day it is OK and another day it is not. This will normally do the trick and your dog will learn the rules, means he will learn what is accepted behavior and which one is not.

Thanks! yeah...i'm trying out this method now...well..now is much better.....at least whenever i say 'NO'..she knows when to stop it.......but she stills like to bite......i guess it's more like a welcoming from her...but of course, to us, it's painful.......hopefully she will learn it quick......Sly

Stick to your NO and never allow or tolerate bites. Offer a chewing toy and praise when he is using it.

Dear Joe Smith,

I have the same kind of situation with my puppy poodle, also 3 months old. Everytime I approach her (to pat her head, to hug her, to play with her etc), her reaction is to open her mouth and bite me.

I have tried the stern "No" and ignoring her method, the yelping "ouch" loudly approach and holding her down by the neck and chest method but all to no avail. When i ignore her, she js bites harder and if i walk away, she chase me to snap at my feet. When i hold her down, she'll struggle a while and then keep quiet. So i'll release her but immediately she comes at me even more aggressive than before and snapping at me like a psycho dog. Any other suggestions? Could it be that she's not properly socialised? I havent brought her out for walks etc as she hasnt finished her vaccinations yet. My husband and i work, so we let her out to play with her a couple of hours in the morning, during lunchtime and evening when we're back from work. Is it separation anxiety?

Recently, I introduced her to wearing a harness and leash so i can bring her for pretend walks in the house. Maybe she doesnt like wearing the harness but she seems even more aggressive now.

Sorry to hear about that consistent problem with your puppy.
It might have several reasons, e.g. removing the puppies to early from the litter can create something like that. Insecurity is another common reason. How long do you have the puppy? Does your puppy has a chew toy?
Normally, when you hold the puppy, speak with a soothing voice while scratching softly behind the ears or its belly will be enjoyed by the puppy, gives it a secured and loved feeling. In short: it bonds with you. Furthermore, encourage biting the chew toy and praise when it does.
BTW, tapping ON the head is not enjoyed by dogs. It is a very dominant gesture. Try to scratch behind the ears instead.

Re: [JoeSmith] Bark, Bite and Jump on Ppl..aggresive???? [In reply to] Can't Post

Thanks for your advice JoeSmith.

Coffee has been with us for 2 months now. We do suspect that she was separated from her litter too early. When we bought from the pet shop, we were told that she was already 2 months old but when we brought her to the vet for her 1st vaccination, we were advised to wait because according to the growth of her teeth, she may js be 4-5 weeks old. We've read up on weaning of pups and it seems the average age to separate the puppy is 8 weeks so that it is properly socialised etc.

Last night, i tried giving her lots of hugs and sooth her in a calm way even tho she was being aggressive and scratched her behind the ears and her belly. She appear to calm down when she realise i was not going to be provoked. Hopefully, i'll wear down her defences and insecurities with lots of kisses and hugs.

She has loads of toys - rawhides, Kong toy, squeeky toys, ball. She particularly loves climbing into my lap and then settling down to chew her rawhide till she falls asleep. So cute! I do have a question tho - does this climbing on me means she's dominating me?

Very cute puppy. Don't worry to much, She will turn out just fine. She has accepted you as a trustworthy and loving "mother" and that is why she does this activity until she falls asleep on your lap. You have to be a little more patient with this little puppy, because she was removed from her litter to early. Continue with massage and petting and she will be fine within the next couple of weeks. Don't forget, do not accept anything you would not like that she is doing it when grown up. Be gentle but firm and most of all be more stubborn then your doggie Wink

Hi Jessica,

My Kiko becoming very aggresive nowadays, whenever i said NO she will growl and bark at me. Maybe is because the way of my boyfren playing with her. She like to jump and play with my boyfren hair, at first my boyfren let her be but now whenever my boyfren say no to her, she just ignore it. At least she scare of me more than my boyfren. Whenever i said NO she will stop then after a while she will do it again. When i said NO and hit her, she will start growl and bark at me!!! Mad

Re: [mykiko] Bark, Bite and Jump on Ppl..aggresive???? [In reply to] Can't Post

hi,

don worry...it's pretty normal for puppy to act like dat...they are trying to learn to see their limit...their dos and donts... so be consistent...each time she jumps on you, say NO firmly to her and move away from her... she might be confused at first as your bf allows her to jump on him previously. however, repeat this a few time. but pls remember that the duration of ignoring her must be short else she will forget why she is being ignored.

if she growls and bark at you, say NO to her as well...at her age now, she needs to learn the meaning of NO. but don worry...if u teach her well, when she gets older, things will get easier...

sasha was once like dat too...and when she gets really aggresive(when she was younger, if i am not wrong about kiko's age), i will push her down and say 'NO' to her..initially she will struggle and scream..i juz let her be...keep holding her down until she surrenders...this is to let her know who is the alpha...

hi,

you can go to this link to view some of the ticks pictures... www.lymenet.org/pictures.shtml

when u see them, u'l know that it is ticks..and i hrd that it's very diff to see fleas....soemtimes they do scratch due to fleas too..check thru her body for ticks...if got, then u might need to use frontline spot on or frontline spray for prevention...
