Aggresive Bullmastiff Can't Post

Last week, we adopted a bullmastiff. He is beautiful, huge, playful and funny. We have, however, had a problem when we get him by the collar. He growls and snaps. He hasn't bitten yet, but we have been scratched by his teeth. We are trying to make him go out and he stubs up. We then get him by the collar to encourage him to get up by pulling on it. This is when he snaps. What is going on? Should we be afraid?

You just adopted the dog, so he has to get to know his new environment and the way of life in his new family. However, you have to make very clear to the dog that you are the alpha dog. It is a big dog and he needs a firm hand and a lot of training, regular socialization as well to ensure that it is safe for you and for your family. He might have had some bad experiences from his former place, so show a lot of TLC but never let your rules be altered by him. If you stick firmly to your rules then he will feel secure and he will appreciate the love and care. He should be manageable within a week.
