The coat of the Silky is actually easy to maintain with regular up-keep.

Bathing the dog weekly using a good moisturizing shampoo, applying conditioner or light oil along with regular brushing fulfills the basic coat care requirements.

Additionally, trimming around the feet, ears and tail occasionally helps maintain an clean well groomed appearance. You'll want to clip toe nails weekly.

1. Get a good set of clipper as shown in the photos I posted up below. It cost about RM240 per set.

2. A thinning scissor & normal scissor.

3. Ear canal hair remover & nail cutter.

This type of leashis good for Silky. Cause it would not break the hair around his/her neck when you use it to bring him/her out for a walk. I strongly don't recommend you to buy any collar for him/her to wear on. Just brought this type of leash will do.

For the eyes drop use it once a week after bath.Wink

Re: [chrisong] How To Groom a Silky [In reply to] Can't Post

chrisong, what's the use of vital oil?.. can i use it for shih tzu also well?.. all this while, i'm using 2 in 1 shampoo n conditioner.. for the ear canal hair remover, how it works?.. it plug out the hair or just cut the hair in the ear canal... concurrently, i'm using tweezer (for eyebrow pucking, scissor type) to remove the ear canal hair..

You can use this brand of shampoo & conditioner on your dog.

1. Pantene

2. Sunsilk

3. Clairo

4. Wella (Currently I using this brand on my Silkies)

Remember always use conditioner after shampoo.

Yes. for normal hair shampoo & conditioner. Not recommended to use leave on conditioner afraid their skin will get allergy.

I think first time better send it for groomer to do the grooming. Learn from them how to groom ur Silky and the correct way using the clipper. No point you buy the clipper and don't know how to use right? I don't think you can get this clipper at Ipoh. But I help and check it out for you. Will let you know OKWink

Re: [babymiki] How To Groom a Silky [In reply to] Can't Post

I never cage my Silkies. All of them sleep in my bedroom. I got each of them bedding but some will jump on my bed and sleep with me & my wifeCrazy Hehehehe But it all up to you where you want him/her to sleep cause not everyone like their dog sleep inside their bedroom like me. HeheheSly

Yes you need to buy alot of Chewing bone for your Silky especially puppy. You don't want ur sofa or expensive things being chew up right? Hahahahahaha

First time dog owner please be patient on your new pup. OK. Train her while he/she still young. Correct him/her wrong doing. Never Never HIT ur puppy.

Good Luck.

hahahah im a very impatient gal :P this'll test my patience..

thanks for the info. is the photo in your avatar your dog?

the fur is so shiny..must have taken up alot of effort :)~

1) what about a dog pan? because i need to go to work in the day.,,only my brother and granny is at home..i dont wish my silky to run around the house chewing up wires and stuffs..can i put him inside the pan and include with toys inside?

2) i read from a thread (forgotten which) that u brush ur silky's hair twice a day..when u brush it..use the pin comb first then only use the all system comb is it?

3) and one more Q about peeing/pooing (too lazy to start a new thread)

i read from peeing thread that some chooses 2 spots for their pet to pee/poo at..one inside one outside...but i prefer to let him pee only inside the house is it ok? can the newspaper training be used to train my silky to pee/poo straight inside the toilet?

Re: [babymiki] How To Groom a Silky [In reply to] Can't Post

Once you have a dog you need to change your daily routine liao. Everything you do is for your pamper dog only. HahahahaLaugh

The Silky in the avatar is my dog name Angel. Yes, It take me years of effort in caring not only Angel but others Silkies in my family.Tongue

1. Play pan. Make sure you buy about 6pc and put into one. More space for your Silky for sleeping, playing and Peepee & Poopoo. Yes can put her/him inside the play pan while you away for work. At the sametime you can paper train her/him to pee & poo on the newspaper. Just put fews newspaper at the corner of the playpen, he/she will automatic know where to do her/his business. You also need to buy a tray 3ft x 2ft (put some newspaper on it for him/her to do business). Slowly let her/him out to play and sleep, at the sametime introduce him/her pee poo place you wanted him/her to do it. This training take time to prefection. Be Patient.Wink

2. Yes. you need to brush & comb ur silky daily. Recommended twice a day. While you brush or comb make sure you don't pull the hair out (minimize it). If the hair tangle, untangle it using your finger slowly. Be Patient.Tongue

3. Answer aboveTongue

Good Luck & remember be Patient!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & also be consistent in your training.

Shoulder height from nine to ten inches. The body is about one fifth longer than the dog's height at the withers. Lightly built with strong but rather fine bone. Weight from 4KG to 6KG.

Buying Dental Care or apparel product is all up to you. For me I sometime brush their teeth or I buy some chewing bone for them. For apparel I did brought alot for my Silkies but only wear fews time & the apparel is not cheap.

Currently feeding my Silkies Cxlifornix Naturxl Chinken & Rice but will change it to Fish & Potatos by end of this month.

Because one of my Silky allergy to Chicken. Last time California have Lamb & Rice, All my Silkies perform well with this brand untill US Lamb are banned and cannot import into Malaysia. Now they are come out new product which I think my Silkies will do fine with it that why I may give it a try lor.

For apparels ruin the silky coat. YES. That why I don't put on any apparel on them unless there are special function like Fashion contest and so on lar.

Re: [babymiki] How To Groom a Silky [In reply to] Can't Post

I can tell you not easy taking care so many Silkies ohCrazy

MKA Cert/Pedigree is a listing of the selected dog's ancestry for three or four generations. It includes the registration numbers, registered names, microchip numbers and coat colors

Microchip gave pet owners a new way to protect their pets. This technology can be used in any kind of animal at any age and it will last for their life. It is slightly larger than a grain of rice and is placed just under the skin by a veterinarian. Each chip is encoded with a unique and unalterable identification code that can only be activated when read by a scanner. Microchip help reunite lost pets with their owners.

Hmmm........If according to law we need to apply licence. But for me, because I keep them inside the house I did notTongue

How old is your puppy now?
