Recommendation Needed on Breeders in Penang..! Can't Post

Hi all!

I'm a newbie in this website/forum... but I've been reading alot of previous posts before registering. I find that the informations provided here are more useful then most articles I've read over the internet as informations here are mostly obtained by self-experience and more suitable for malaysian's lifestyle. Wink

I have a dilemma that is bothering me for quite some time now. I am a proud owner of a toy poodle - which is almost a year plus of age now. I'm used to take him wherever I go - sometimes, he's in the bag, and sometimes I just carry him. Anywhere I go, as long as I can take him along, I will (like during meals to coffee shops, or star bucks - places that allows pets). I'm still a college student so I have most time of the day to spare with furkids compare to most working people. The thing is, sometimes there are places I go (although not so often) does not allow pets and I can't bring him along. It breaks my heart to leave him at home (sometimes alone and sometimes under my sister's care).

To solve this, I and my bf have think it's time to have another puppy to accompany him whether he is alone or not. The thing is, I am afraid that if I were to buy another furkid, they might fight? Or will my current furkid get jealous when I divide my love between him and a new furkid? How will I know that they will be best of friends and could keep each other company happily? Any signs? Or should I take him along while I choose my next furkid? He's ok with other doggies around the neigbourhood as sometimes neighbours of mine would take their doggies out in the evenings (i live in an apartment). What's funny is that he likes to jump everywhere like electric shock kena him like tat - when he and another doggie smelling each other. (he smell other doggies can, they smell him, he'll start jumping and avoiding - don wan people to smell him. why ar?) But sometimes he can be fierce and I'm not sure if it's fighting, but it sure look like it but no biting or scratching involve. Just some growlings. How could I tell if he's in a fight or not?

Should I choose a male or female furkid? My current furkid is a male. So, should I get him a buddy or gf? I don't mind the gender but if a female, I would need to send her for operation as I don't wan her giving birth to puppies anytime. Which is better: same breed or not? Is owning 4 to 5 furkids fine (that will be later on Tongue)?

Another thing: Only through reading postings from this forum that I know that it's better to buy puppies from breeders rather then petshops? I bought my current furkid from a petshop as I didn't know then. Luckily, he turned out just fine and sometimes, even more better then fine in terms of behaviour, character and smartness. So, could someone recommend breeders in Penang? With decent prices and living enviroment of parents? I am interested in breeds like poodle, miniature schnauzer or shih tzu. I don't mind the breeds or cert as long as they could mingle together happily and accompany each other when I am away.

Thank You for your time.

Hello

Yes, feel the same way like you bout the no dogs allowed at some places.

Anyway, on your question on another dog, well, your poodle is already 1 years old plus, correct? well, it would be good if you get a female and then spay it. Why I said that? Normally, male dogs, be it same or different breed will fight if their age gap is arpund 1 to 2 years. If you read some dog behaviour books, adding a male puppy will give you less problems if the age gap is around 3 years.

Growling is a sign your dog tells others to be aware, like BACK OFF. Fighting is when he bites the other dog. If you are not sure whether he can live with another dog, you try getting a friend with a younger and maybe female dog to come to your house. Make him get used to another canine. For me, my dogs socialise ok at home coz they have built a ranking system when young.

A good breed that gets along great with many breeds is a shih tzu. Easy to train, has hair and not fur like poodle and small to cary around. Penang got a few breeders selling for rm600. Just call up and find out. Look at Star newspaper.

Willy, my beloved shih tzu (22 March 1994- 8 August 2005) May you rest and live happily in Rainbow Bridge with the rest. You will forever be deeply missed by all.

Hi,

Thx for ur suggestions. I've got a few questions though.... Ur doggies, did u bring them home all at the same time or seperately? If seperate, how did they react to each other at first? Playful, sniffing here n there? Will the one that you brought home at first act as if the house is his teritory and the new pup was an intruder? How much difference in age ur puppies are?

About ur suggestions on getting a female doggie and having her spay... i think it's a good idea. However, can i spay here some time after she has given birth? Lets say.... after her first birth? Or even if i spay her when she is still a pup, will my doggies mate? i mean, it's ok that they mate after she's being spay as she won't be able to be pregnant after that... but, it's not a very nice sight especially if there's visitors around? I'm afraid that this might be a problem later on....

My dogs... ok their ages are like this. Shih Tzu is 11, Boxers are 5 and 6, Lab is 5. My other dog, a mixbreed lives in another house.

My shih tzu, he was 5 when I brought back my boxer puppy and he was at first jealous, but he didn't show any aggressive signs. Since my boxer was yonger than my shih tzu, he respected my shih tzu as older dominant dog and till today, never bite my shih tzu before.

Then my lab came and both dogs accepted her but my shih tzu won't play with her. So she's very playful and my shih tzu don't like so always bark and scold her but never bite.

My next boxer came an is male. I made a mistake coz I didn't read about dog dominance. So for the first 2 years, both boxers were like best friends, Then when they mature to adults, they started fighting for dominance. they never fight with my shih tzu coz he's the older and more dominant than them and they see him as the boss. The boxers fight among each other for ranking number 2. My lab is female and nuetral coz we spayed her.

Normally, dogs will be very easy going with the opposite sex. If the dog is older than 3 years old, than same sex dogs will get along. My boxers age gap is only 1 year and they fight till blood everywhere.

I got info that a female spayed after 1st birth is good. Will lower the risk of cancer in the womb. I spayed my dog after her first heat. After spay, your dogs won't mate. Maybe your male will hump the female but only for fun or dominance, not mating. Normally dogs that are spayed won't get pregnant coz they can't come on heat and won't attract the male.

Hmmm.... does that means that there won't be any problem no matter how much age gap a male and female is?

oh! i've checked the star online e-paper and i have come to find that breeders don't really state where are they. As in, which state are they in. By the look of the contact numbers stated, i could see that most breeders are not in penang. Sigh... Is there any particular breeders you'd recommend?

Normally age gap for male and female won't have problem. Sometimes there are rare cases of females being aggressive but since you would be getting a female as a 2nd dog, no problem about dominance to worry. If you spay he female, then she would be neutral and will not cause any problem for you and your dog too.

Hmm... penang breeders, I'm not familiar. Why not try contacting some? Star ads normally not all KL people, some also penang. Or, you can call up MKA for breeders.
