i am currently staying in kuching..i love to travel with my puppy(YaYa)...i have bring her to the hotel twice b4..but instead of hotel, i rather call them inn..
just like peninsular, here is also quite hard to find for a hotel/inn that allow doggie..
now i would like to share my experience to u all when i bring my puppy to hotel..

that is only a small inn(but quite clean),we drive 3 hours there from kuching..there is a small town..when my bf go to register, and me n my yaya wait inside the car. after the registration, we just bring her go in, i can feel the uncle(chinese) siitting at the counter looking at us, but we directly going up without looking at him..hehe..if u look at him, he sure ask u to not bring the dog..

then after that we go out for a walk2, and when the time we come back, the uncle block us, he say his boss say cannot bring doggie into the hotel. then we ask him y?and say that they didn't put on any notice that dog are not allow!so that is not our fault to bring.(i know we are a bit "ba dao" Tongue

)then he say all hotel is not allow for dog,so we should know..and he ask us to put my doggie in car!!!!what the hell he say!!!!outside is so hot,if i put my doggie inside the car then it sure die..

then we say,if he insist, then better we go, but they have to refund.he say he allow us to stay but only not allow our puppy stay there..means "i wun refund,u stay la,but put ur dog outside!"we so angry that time,if he is not uncle(50++ something), i think i will scold him..

then my bf ask him call his boss, and let us talk to him...when his boss know we want to refund, then he let us stay with ur puppy. Crazy

.i think that hotel might have not good business maybe..so, he also dun wan refund gual!:)it just luckily we have fight for it! Frown

then the 2nd time, we went for a 7 hours drive distance place to play..b4 we go, we call quite a few hotel, but they all pet not allowed..but we still go.. Tongue

then this time is smooth, coz we go to find those lousy a bit inn(quite clean also la) which is a bit far from town..coz usually this type of inn no so much business ma..n if they no business, they will just accept whatever customer..:)

the counter boy is a bumi(not malay) here, we all thought we will be reject, who knows he say ok, no problem..huh!i really happy that time.. Wink

i always bring my puppy when i go out for dinner o shopping..coz she is so pity, waiting me at home for so many hours, so i will bring her along wherever she can go..so far i face no problem here..they are happy to see her also..it just i have to sit outside lo..even the boss din ask me so, but i will just choose to sit outside.not good la,if make the boss no business..:)

Hvae your Yaya finish her 4months vaccination? Make sure she have took the vaccination or else it may be harmful for her~ Coz a lot of virus outside, and puppy don't have the antibody to fight the virus~

Reading 'yarfen's interesting posting on getting their puppy INTO the hotel reminded me of a refreshing experience I had at Fraser's Hill some years back. I saw several families with their pet dogs enjoying themselves on the lawn of a holiday bungalow (Steakhouse, I think). Chatting with them (i.e. the owners of the pets), I was told that THEY COLLECTIVELY BOOKED THE WHOLE BUNGALOW INCLUDING ALL THE ADJOINING CHALETS so they could bring their pets for a truly refreshing holiday.

I wonder if some kind soul or our caring web master could help 'organise' a weekend outing (at least 2 nights) for pets & their owners. We could book a whole "dog friendly hotel/inn, etc." with acceptable "discipline & health" arrangements/agreement with the management. Perhaps interested parties could meet to work out a formula.

Let's pray & hope for several "dog friendly hotels/inns, etc/" to be listed in the near future. (Kindly share your discovery with me and other dog lovers.)

I never been this lucky at any hotel or in any resort, except Langkawi. Probably it is more difficult to get permission when a giant breed dog puts his head on the counter. Laugh

I know that members of puppy.com.my went to the A�Famosa resort lately and someone did organize those events.

Just keep your fingers crossed that this very nice person will organize another weekend and then sign up and join the fun. Keep an eye on the event listing in this forum.

Could we get interested parties to meet and perhaps work out some details on how to approach establishments (hotels, inns, resorts, private holiday bungalows, etc.) to get 'official permission' . . . with the 'commercial incentive' to them that they will be meeting a GROWING NEED among dog lovers . . . a sizeable group in Klang Valley alone.

BTW, I'm going to check with 'establishments' in neighbouring countries and countries that practice "animal rights" besides "human rights" to see how they handle this issue . . . from the health, religious and safety angles.

I tried that before and was told that �dog friendly places� in Malaysia means that dogs are �tolerated� on a case-by-case decision only.

Puppy.com.my is one of the most active groups when it comes to activities; hence, you might find an invitation to join in the �event calendar� listing.

You could start a new thread in �dog friendly places� to discuss the ways and means of approaching hotels, resorts, etc. with all members or you could write to the admin in �comments & suggestions� to add-on the proposed chapter.

Have fun, we are all dog lovers and more then willing to share and we are open to any new idea as well.

i so envy u guys,have all sort of nice activities there..why nobody wan to organize doggie party here??even the dog show also no much variaty breed of doggie.. Frown

no westie,min pin,MS,poodle....then the sarawak government want to ban imported doggie somemore..so sad.. Frown

Bon Ton Restaurant & Resort Langkawi and they operate �LASSIE�, Langkawi Animal Shelter & Sanctuary Foundation, which is just next door.
They have probably Langkawi�s best seafood restaurant.
Transport to Langkawi a giant breed dog cost nearly the same then renting the house in this resort.

harlo everybody..

sorry to butt in.. but last weekend i went to pangkor.. saw a owner with his pet shih tzu so i asked him whether pangkor ferry allow dogs.. he say no problem as long as it is inside crate... but then large breed i dunno lar.. and furthermore we can search for inns that allow dogs :D...

i think this option is only for small breeds ler.. coz big dog how to put in crate? :P:p

Never tried Pangkor, but worth a trial. Any hotel / hotel staff to approach?

To Langkawi I used to take MAS and not the ferry.

The official jet kennel works well and it is possible to purchase for giant breed dogs Wink

The ferry captain has the last word and might place the dog wherever he likes or rejects to take along. Better to use a flight, at least you and your dog can board as scheduled without �Tom, Dick & Harry� interfering.

RESPECT

I'm in Melbourne, Australia for 5 years and I have 2 goldens. We all know that Australia is a great country and have lots of off-leash parks for us to enjoy with our furkids.

However, we all need to respect the decision of the management/owner of the hotels/resorts/inns/chalets/etc whether or not pets is allowed inside. It is your responsibility to call and check with the manager of the place you are intending to stay whether your pet is allowed to live in with you.

We all know that most breeds shed lots of fur, and some people are allergic to fur, you are causing inconvinience to others by stubbornly wanting your pet to stay with you.

When I was travelling to the countryside in Melbourne for 2 nights, I brought my dogs along with me thinking that my dogs are allowed to stay with me (how optimistic I am). However, the owners said that dogs are not allowed (there are no signs whatsoever) but I clearly understood his situation, there are families with small children inside, even though I know that my dogs are good with kids, it is best to keep them away from the children as they might get too excited.

We have no choice but to tied them to a tree when we were sleeping (the owners were kind enough to let us do that), and other than that little problem, we enjoyed our holiday tremendously.

Please learn to respect people around you, the world does not revolve around you, and people seriously do not have to place red carpet on the floor that you walk, be more rational and understanding.

hahaha.. i give choices to the owner, whether refund or let us in (actually i did ask him refund 50% and we leave immediately, but finally he choose to let us in), did i not respect him? Laugh

that's fair isn't it? he gain money and i bring my dog in, if he dont, we go and he refund. i didn't force him, i let him choose. i cant understand why saying that i dont respect people around.

i am not sure are u malaysian, or do u understand the culture here, but i can tell u, the place i went to is a malay town, if i leave my dog outside, she might be killed, that's it. and once again, not all countryside hotel/inn in malaysia showing their number online. we all know that there is big different between malaysia and Australia. Wink

for me....i definately dare not try d risk of bringing my dog for a holiday....n then worrying whether i'll manage to get a hotel a not...

anything involving my dog, needs to do a lot of planning ahead.....

i'll usually make sure tat i manage to get a pet-friendly hotel, a few outdoor park tat allow dogs..... outdoor restaurant tat can tolerate the presence of my dog....

if no park, no restaurant tat is dog -friendly.... tat's no point bringing our dog 2 holiday..... she enjoyed better being @ home....

I'm definitely a Malaysian, been in Malaysia for 18 years till I move to Melbourne for my tertiary studies.

Therefore, I definitely know what both cultures are like, it doesn't matter where you are, which country you are at, you need to respect the culture of the country and its people.

Bringing a dog with you while travelling needs a lot of careful planning ahead, you cannot assume that dogs are allowed inside the hotel with you (just like any rational people would).

As we all know, Malaysia is a muslim country with the majority of the population being Malays, therefore there are chances customers living in the hotel are Malays.

There are so many useful threads here regarding dog-friendly places, if you insist on going on holiday with your dogs, why not go to those places that will welcome you and your dog with open arms? Less stressful, less conflict with the owner of the hotel and a much more enjoyable holiday!

When you said that your dog might get killed being outside alone, you have made 2 presumptions:

1. All Malays are dog-haters and evil, thus will kill dogs when they spot one immediately.

2. Malaysia is such a dangerous country for a dog to live in, that if you leave them out for one night, you can guarantee that you will find them dead the next day.

IMO, this is not entirely true, based on my experience and socialisation around Malays for 12 years (being in Malay schools for both primary and secondary level education). Many of them are friendly and are open to Chinese's cultures (eating pork and having dogs as pets), true, there are a few extremists ala al-Qaeda as well, but you can be assured that those people are left lonely and secluded throughout their schooling years.

If you think that travelling around Malaysia with your dog would be such a highly dangerous event for your dog, why don't you leave her at home where someone could care for her? She still would be happy and content, although she might missed you while you are away, at least she is safe? Or you can leave her in a dog boarding kennel/dog hotel where she would be cared for and also has the chance to enjoy lots of socialisation with other doggies?

My advice, plan carefully before you travel, you are lucky that that owner agreed to let you stay in the inn with your dog, otherwise where would you stay?

i must also said tat not all malays hate dogs...

i've encounter @ various occasion whereby d malays tell me how cute they find my dog is....n another malay hawker never miss asking me where's my blackie if she realize i'm not bringing her out for a walk.....

nonetheless there r some who will runs miles away as if my dog had contagious disease.....

but there r alwiz 2 sided..... even not all chinese like dogs..... my relative r d examples.... they alwiz made me tie up my dog whenever they came visiting....pretty annoying though....alwiz wish that they hadn't come afterall....

a question to ask.?is this the only hotel in langkawi that let u bring ur dog together within the vicinity.?

as previously saw star newspaper run a story on langkawi bout a place for the doggie to stay along with us together.forgot bout the name of the place.

is this bontonresort allowed?
