Keeping a Dog at Home Can't Post

Dear Friends,

I am very concern over this article which i've come across in the Official Website of Sister of Islam : http://www.uh.edu/...awawom/misc.html#dog

Keeping a Dog in the House

Question: We have a female dog in our house that we imported. We did not know the ruling concerning owning dogs and we were not in need of the dog. After we knew the ruling, we threw the dog out but he would not leave because he grew up in the house. We did not want to have him killed. What is the solution?

Response: There is no doubt that it is forbidden to keep a dog except for those cases that the Shariah has specifically permitted. Whoever has a dog-- unless it be a hunting, livestock or farm dog-- will lose a qirat's [a very large portion] worth of his reward for every day. If he loses a qirat's worth of reward, it means that he is committing a sin because one does not lose reward except by committing sin. Hence, both of these aspects show that it is forbidden, due to the result of that. In this case, I advise all of those who are deceived into following what the disbelievers do concerning having dogs as pets, that such dogs are evil and a great impurity. They are one of the most impure of animals. The impurity of the dog is not cleansed except by washing a container [in which it licked] seven times, one of them being with soil. Even the pig, that Allah has declared in the Quran to be unlawful and impure, has not reached that extent. Therefore, dogs are impure and dirty. However, with deep apologies, we find some people deceived by the ways of the disbelievers who like impure things and, therefore, they also keep dogs as pets without

any need or necessity. They keep the dogs, bring them and clean them, although they can never become cleansed even if one uses an entire sea. This is because their impurity is a physical impurity. Furthermore, they waste a lot of money on such dogs and this is wasted money. The Prophet (peace be upon him) has forbidden the wasting of money. I advise those who have been deceived to repent to Allah and to get the dogs out of their houses. As for those who need the dogs for hunting, farming or livestock, there is no harm in that because the Prophet (peace be upon him) has permitted that.

The question still remains to be responded to. I say to you that if you let the dog leave your house and throw him out, then you will not be responsible for him. Do not leave him in your house. Perhaps if you leave the door open for him to leave, he may go out and eat from what Allah has provided them, as the other dogs do.

Shaikh ibn Uthaimin

Could anyone pls pls clarify if this website is official as this is obviously sending out a certainly different message from what is posted in Puppy.com website regarding " Dogs in Islam".

Pls pls is there anything we can do about this!!! Can a representative from Puppy.com ( representing us, dog lovers) help in clarifying this with the relevant - before more dogs are thrown away from their only homes they know!!!

The article is NOT from the Sisters In Islam website. I don't know where you got that idea from. The article comes from the University of Houston Muslim students' association website. Any disagreements with the contents should be directed to them. No where in the article is there any mention of the Malaysian NGO Sisters In Islam.

Re: [ROSANNAMCCALL] Keeping a Dog at Home [In reply to] Can't Post

You have a responsibility to get your facts right. You attributed that article to the Sisters in Islam but there is no link from the Sisters in Islam website to that other website. There is nothing on the Sisters In Islam website that alludes to dogs at all.

You are upset that I am offended by the "misconstrued article" yet you see nothing wrong that you were giving ppl the impression that the Sisters In Islam were perpetuating anti-dog sentiments. You have given ppl cause to misconstrue the Sisters in Islam and created the impression that they hold anti-dog sentiments.

We may be dog lovers at this website but not at the expense of falsehoods, misimformation and definitely not at the expense of another group of people who have done nothing to deserve being dragged into the issue of dog ownership. Perhaps you may not see the connection but groups like Sisters In Islam are the moderated view of Islam and these moderate thinking people are exactly those whom we - dog lovers - rely on for sense and intelligence when other more zealous groups go over the top and start wanting to impose all sorts of regulations on all and sundry, regardless of whether they are Muslims or not.

Creating misunderstanding by attributing points of view to Sisters in Islam that they DON'T hold only makes them feel that pro-dog ppl are anti-Muslim - just like there are ppl who believe that all Muslims are anti-dog. The results of which are of no help to dogs.

Thank you for standing up for me khoo262.

Some points though - the new rules on dog ownership is NOT from elected ppl. Local councils are not elected - they are appointed. The federal government is elected and technically as the electorate, we can put pressure on the federal government to put pressure on the local councils to "reconsider" their anti-dog course of action.

The federal government is bound by the Constitution that guarantees us all the right of freedom to practice our various religions. The actions of the local councils with their anti-dog regulations is actually contrary to the Constitution.

I agree that we must get our facts correct...or the very least, the correct source where the info came from. In this case, if you did not inform us, people reading this thread will assume the worse of Sisters Of Islams. Thanks for your prompt clarification. No, I do not think you are at all sensitive. Just a person who wants to set the facts right.

of course we are concern but we are also concern about the source. In the case above, if there is no mention on the source being wrong, all members of puppy.com will have a bad impression on Sister Of Islam.

How do you feel if you are Sister Of Islam??

Re: [khoo262] Keeping a Dog at Home [In reply to] Can't Post

I am not sure if it is proper to write anything to this issue since some religious references are involved.

Basically, all major religion believe that the world was created by GOD (or how he is called in there faith). Created with ALL the living creatures in it and nowhere is stated that the creation of dogs was wrong, an accident or a mistake.

To use them to search for explosives, drugs and criminals is OK and common practice in ALL countries, but to love and care for them is unclean and sinful in some? I would feel very ashamed (as a human being) if this would be the truth.

Maybe in future, they can use cats for tracking, sniffing bombs, etc. You want to use them but don't wanna love them. It's a bit unfair, right?? Tell your wife ' i wanna use you but don't wanna love you' - i guarantee you sleep in the couch/car for the night.

Smile you have a very clear and humorous way of bringing it down to the point. Thank you.

I guess that this is the problem. They "buy" the wife and no love involved, so they don't respect their wifes and might never understand the feeling and harm which comes with such an attitude. Most of the time, I feel sorry for them, since they never experience love.

We already know that such opinions exist - why do you think there are residents in Shah Alam, Putrajaya and Ampang Jaya being forced to send their beloved pets to PAWS and SPCA? These pet owners don't hold those horrible views but there are people in charge who do who are making things difficult for dog-lovers to have pets in their own homes. We are also aware that these anti-dog actions are being perpetrated unfairly in the name of religion.

We are dog lovers here who are all fighting for respect for our pets and our right to have our pets. When you thought the info was from the Sisters In Islam website, did you write to them and ask them about "posting such info to the public" and see their response? Or did you just jump straight in to tell puppy.com members about it? Why? What "change" did you expect to effect by that? Create something to "talk" about? I don't know about you but I'm not all talk, I do something about it. What about you?

You're worried about what info websites post then go join an internet censorship group - go fight child pornography; websites that give info on how to become anorexic; how to make bombs, heroin, grow marijuana undetected.... the list goes on. Just as that website exists with it's extremist views, so does the "Dogs In Islam" info on puppy.com. Someone out there thinks THAT is extremist.

You are a tad too sensitive, aren't you? And throwing a very childish tantrum? We are appreciative that you brought up this topic but it's also important that the source is correct. No one is blaming you. We just want our members to be more aware that they should be sure before putting the source of the article. You seem to be over reacting because we notice your mistake? Everyone make mistakes.

If Gus-Gus did not point out the mistake, we would all have a mighty bad (but wrong) impression of Sisters of Islam in this matter. Just get over it and move on. We are all dog lovers here. Please be mature!!

Re: [Gus-Gus] Keeping a Dog at Home [In reply to] Can't Post

Well spoken, congratulations.

I feel that this is the danger within a forum. Someone heard something and post it, those days we called this gossip.

Furthermore, I don’t understand the reply from Rosanna. Instead of being thankful to learn a little, she started barking at everyone. Why? Embarrassed for being caught gossiping? Disappointed that none of us started any sentiments against the religion or the government?

We all know that out there are people who really hate dogs and they have the same right to use the internet then we, the dog lovers, have.
