Why 13 week only you go for tail docking? Mad

You should dock it when he was 3 day old!!! Are you bringing him for dog show?Mad

Hi spidodido,

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with tail docking. There are breeders out there who believe that tails should not be docked, personally I think it is stupid due to a simple fact that the dog was design to be that way. Do not like complicating my life about it cruel etc. As for your predicament, I did not have problems like this when I docked or corrective docking of my dob's tail at 4 months old when she went in for her ear cropping. Some breeders do all these cosmetic surgery when three days or so old like tail docking and dew claw removal for dobermans and rottis plus weimeraners but if left late it should be fine a slight discomfort I am sure for the dog. Why not check the wound and re- dress the wound it may be the dressing taht may be causing the dis-comfort, just a thought. Good luck.

Tail docking is allowed in Malaysia.

Thanks GoldenAddict.

So they should get it as soon as they are a few days old right?

Does it have to be done by a Vet or the breeder will do it themselves?

Yes, between 2-4 days usually per the breed standard, not all docks are the same. Most good responsible breeders can dock & some of them do a much better job than Vets. However, some would rather depend on a Vet.

Hope I helped.

schnauzer, doberman and rottie are common dogs that have their tail dock, but does other breed of dog can have their tail docked as well??

for instance, Labrador retriever? i saw several picture of lab having their tail docked, would this be ok for the dog? would it affect its movement and balance?

Re: [huat] help..after tail docking... [In reply to] Can't Post

No, I've never seen a docked Lab - it's not necessary in the breed as their tails do help them "steer" in swimming & their tail is quite thick & strong. They would not damage it in the field like some other thinner tailed field breeds who need docked tails to prevent a lot of injuries. Tails are docked BEFORE pups walk...before they even crawl, so docking doesn't affect anything.

Hope I helped.
