Is that how you would treat YOUR dog? (Dog Obedience and Training class)

On Sunday I attended the Dog Obedience and Training class at Taman Desa Community Park. It was really great to see so many dogs and dog-lovers. What made me sick, however, was how all these "dog-lovers" treated a stray dog that wandered happily into the park. Firstly, the dog was very friendly. If you truly love your dog, you would know when your dog is being friendly or aggressive. Heck, it takes no genius-- when a dog wags his tail, you know he's friendly. Secondly, the stray seemed really happy to see so many dogs and so many people. He just wanted to play with the other dogs. He was crouching on the ground and playfully jumping around, with his tail wagging non stop, at other dogs and at people. But what did the dog owners do? One of them WHIPPED the stray dog with a leash. I heard the *thwack* sound, and you can tell it was a really hard whip. The stray yelped and ran away from that man. Then as the stray was nearing another dog (a large breed like himself), the owner stood up and SCREAMED LOUDLY at the dog "HOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!" and returned with a heroic face, like he saved the day. I was appalled by their behaviour. The stray wasn't displaying any signs of aggression. The least, maybe, is standing up against people with his front paws on your stomach, but his tail was wagging and wagging away. My dog does that too, when she's really happy to see someone. The stray wasn't even trying to rape any other dog. He wasn't attacking anyone. He just wanted some affection. I believe he used to belong to someone else, who would pat him on the head and say sweet things to him when he stood up against that person. Most probably he had other doggie pals too; either that or he really loves socialising with other dogs. To all the dog lovers who was there that day and treated the stray dog horribly (especially those two I mentioned), what is your defense? Why is it ok for your dog to mingle and play with your friend's dog, but when a friendly stray comes up, you chase it away as if the dog intended to tear you apart? Maybe you would state that the stray dog had a big ugly patch on its hind leg, and maybe you thought it was infectious and it will infect you and your precious dog and you will both die of rabies. Well if you take a closer look, it's just a scar. If your dog was hurt badly, maybe scalded by hot water, are you going to hold back your love for him/her? Or maybe you would say "Oh that stray dog probably has ticks and my precious pooch doesn't have a single one" Let me tell you that God has a funny way of working out things. And maybe you've only had small-sized dogs all your life, and you're not used to big dogs coming near you. Well ok, that's understandable... but a dog's tail never lies when it's wagging SO hard. Mother Theresa once said, "The greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling unloved, having no one." No human should have to go through that, and no animal too. Especially animals who protect, love, and care for their masters. If you won't treat your own dog in a cruel way, please don't treat friendly strays like that.
