Haha, perfect idea.

However, my experience with walking the dog is that nobody bothers about me and everyone is looking at the dog only. Crazy

Needs a good portion of self-confidence. Wink

That means that our dogs might get famous, not us.

Yes, it was a great dog. As I said, I was just 6 years old and can’t remember anything else then playing with the dog. I guess that the dog was from Germany, but have no clue from which kennel.

To train that, you have to start from very early age, so that you can use the greeting jump from your puppy to put a command to it and later work from there.

It needs a lot of love & patience and a very consistent approach. You will need some athletic intruders who are nuts enough to take all the nonsense from this trainee. You will need the full body suit including headgear to ensure some sort of safety for them.

Good Luck.

Sly Sly Sly That is the way how it might be.

People ask a lot of questions, but will not look at me. Sometimes, I thought that they think that I am an automatic answering machine, which is attached to the dog for their convenience. Had to get used to it. Laugh

Also very interesting what they think about that big animal – “harimau?”. Learned later that this not meant dog. Smile

When I told them that it is a "Lean-on-berger" then they were lost. Police asked me, if I hold a special license for that … (mmhhmm, what is it?).Get prepared for some funny stories while walking around with giant breed dogs.

That is one of my worries. Trained her not to take food from others. Besides that, she is a real bodyguard and would not let me out of sight. It also helps that most people are scared of her, especially, when she stares at them. Hope it stays this way and we can escape the threat. She gives a lot of joy and happiness for the little she gets from us.

Re: [RealityDreamer] Do you choose your pets based on their breed and why? [In reply to] Can't Post

That is a long story. Briefly, you have to do the normal obedience training anyway. Then you use the puppy jump and put a command on it. You use the tug-o-war game to get its killing instinct and put a command on it. You train to hold (with any toy and later food) and put a command to it. You train to eat on command as well.

When he is old enough for SchH training then you start combining all of this to hunt down your intruder by using the combined command for chase & jump. That will not take to long, because it is fun for the dog. When done perfect and reliable then add-on the hold command. It will take a while, since he is to strong and might start the kill. That is the reason why you have to train a command word first, so that you can put a stop to it. Of course also needed to advise him to do in the event that the intruder is fighting back.

My father also trained to bite on command. That is very danger but extremely effective against a group of intruders.

You have to watch your dog all the time. Never accept anything done half way or incorrect. The mastiff is a little lazy and will try to outsmart you. You need to do training sessions daily for the rest of his life. Training sessions might start with 5 minutes and increase the time when you see that the dog can take it to up to 30 minutes. Just make sure that all sessions will end with one successful completion. If you need then use an old command to ensure that the finish is really a success. That is important for the confidence of your dog. He has to get the point that he is smart and can always make it right.

Hope you could understand the method. There are some books about it in the market, but I am not sure if you could find them in Malaysia.Good Luck.

OK, will contact my friends in Germany, but it will take a while and the books are in German only.

I have seen one book at MPH (megamall) called “Schutzhundtraining”. I did not check the content but it might have something in it for you.

That is the beauty of this bookshop; you can really check out the book, even sit down and read. So, for the meantime, have some fun.

No.Each time I go to shelter, I have no problem coming home with 10 but I am being controlled by what my family wants so they like small dogs, I got to choose small dogs.
