Dog unfriendly place Can't Post

Hi all,

I just want to share an unpleasant event which happened to me last weekend.

I visited boyfriend (BF) over the weekend and he stays in Puncak Atheneaum, Bukit Antarabangsa. I wanted him and Bailey to get acquainted with each other and the good news is we all had a good time playing with Bailey and BF now loves Bailey as she is so endearing.

I took Bailey out for her morning walk yesyerday morning and upon returning to the condo, the guard barred me from entering the condo and if I want to enter, I have to tie Bailey outside the condo. Reason being: I had Bailey with me and dogs are not allowed in the condo and instructed I read the notice board. In fact, I have read the notice board earlier on. All there is, is a pamphlet from MPAJ stating that residents staying from the first floor onwards in condominiums and apartments are not allowed to rear dogs( digress slightly here - the wordings on the MPAJ pamphlet arguably indicates that residents on the second floor, third floor etc cannot rear dogs but residents on the ground floor and arguably the first floor can rear dogs - there is no clear wording therein to state "inclusive of first floor"). I pointed out to the guard that first, I am not a resident in the condo and being a visitor, the MPAJ rules do not apply to me and secondly, I do not see any signboard which prohibits visitors with dogs from entering the condo. I told the guard that if he can show me something in black and white like house rules or a signboard in the condo, I will not enter. ALso told the guard that Bailey is better behaved than most of the residents in the condo. She does not bark, bite, whine loudly and plus she she does not pee or poo in the lifts (I rubbed that in cos there are some pariah low class residents who pees and poos in lifts). She takes the stairs.I also stopped her from going near any Muslims or stops her from licking them. Guard is stumped as he cannot argue with logic so he decided to use force by raising his voice and insisted that I pack up and leave the condo immediately with dog in tow... I was fuming inside but really I did not see the point in arguing with an idiotic uneducated security guard who cannot rationalise a simple argument. At this juncture, a Malay resident came up to me and berated me for not respecting their religious beliefs. Hello... I have close Muslim friends too... It is not that Muslims cannot touch dogs just not when the dog is wet or any wet part of the dog like its mouth. if I did not respect their beliefs I would have ask my Bailey to jump on them and lick their face kau kau. .. let them wash their face with mud 7 times baru tau... The resident also state that he cannot use the lift now that Bailey has used it (consoled him that Bailey only takes the stairs) and that now he cannot go to the guardhouse because Bailey was there.. Huh??. What type of reasoning is this. Breathing the same air as our furkid does not make them any less a Muslim nor does it diminish the aggregate value of all the good points a Muslim has accumulated through their 5 times daily prayers. He looked like an educated man if this is a specimen of what our education system has produced.. I shudder to think of the mentality of an uneducated person in this country.

Anyway, guard wanted to be escort me back to BF's unit so that he can throw me out. So, I marched up to BF's unit and complained to BF. BF immediately kick the guard out of the unit and told guard that he has been unreasonably rude to his guests and only residents have the right to kick visitors out.. not guards. The guards are there to merely enforce a decision of the residents. If there is a problem with the resident committee of the condo, BF said he will deal with it.

Anyway, BF is waiting for clarification from the resident committee and found out that one of the resident committee also rears a small furkid.. What type of double standard is this?? I will still continue visiting BF with Bailey until and unless I see a signboard which states clearly "VISITORS WITH DOGS NOT ALLOWED INTO CONDO". When that happens, BF says he will shift to a Chinese area!

I am truly saddened by the treatment I received in my BF's condo. In my condo in Faber Heights Taman Desa, everyone is on good terms with Bailey even the Malay guards. Everytime I bring her out for a walk, the kids will stop to pat her and play with her. There is also a Japanese lady who has a beautiful Golden and several other dog owners. So long as our dogs do not disturb or annoy our neighbours and the owners are responsible, there should not be a cause for complaint.

PS: The above is not meant as a racial or religious slur against the Malays and Muslims in general but it is merely my observation of the type of unrational and unfounded behaviour expounded by members of such groups. I do know of several of my Malay friends who rear dogs as well and I take my hat off to them for having the courage to rear dogs in a close minded unrational society like ours. I can imagine the type of statements hurled towards them by fellow Muslims.

Re: [Bailey] Dog unfriendly place [In reply to] Can't Post

So sorry to here that,

well, first of all there is no point arguing with religious ppl anyway, i am not saying this to stereotype anyone, but to just those who r a pain in tha A** when it comes to dogs and their beliefs. i once had a malay neighbour who is a pain in the ass as well, i live in a Semi-d house and i can't see a reason why i cannot have more than one dog in my place. there is one incident which happened that made things worst, she had a rabbit in her house and it is her responsibility to keep her own compound safe thus not making any harm to her rabbit. my dog happens to be a cute spitz and he is small and playful. i do not let him out of my compound. but one day my maid left the gate open and he ran out wondering outside and playing with my neighbours...this neighbour of mine, always open her gate wide open and i really do mean from morning till night...so my little furkid was playing outside and he saw the rabbit and went chasing after it...i didn't know wat happen next, maybe my dog bit the rabbit and it died, my furious neighbour went cursing and swearing outside and cause a commotion, i ran out and found out wat happened and immediately apologised to her saying that i am sorry and would pay for another rabbit.. she kept screaming and at some point cursed my mother as well..saying how she teaches her children, i was 19 at that time, i immediately got angry and scolded her back saying that she shouldn't keep her gate open at all times...things started happening, the other morning my mother found a dead rat in my garden, it is very obvious that she threw it over from her house. then one evening, kids were running outside my house and my dog went barking at them making one of the kids afraid and started crying, my neighbour as usual a busybody, came to my house and kept cursing and screaming again..this time she blames my dog for scaring kids. my dog was not even outside...he is inside the house...one month later, my dog went missing and never came back...eventhough i have no prove against her, i think she did something bad to my dog because she once told me to watch my dog carefully saying that she had very good ties with the mpsj ppl. (wonder if the rules that a person who keep dogs must ask the neighbour first was her idea). after my dog went missing, i had bought another dog, infact i bought 2 more making it three. this time she complained again saying that one house can only have one dog...and she will make a complain but to no effect because i got license for all three doggies...she then took revenge by building a very high wall covering my house. i already had a nice fence with iron grills seperating our house compound. she made another wall overlaping my wall. worst still she did not even paint my side of the wall.making my house exterior look very ugly....damm i hate her so much....now she has moved away thanx to many of my neighbour, all house surrounding her has at least 2 dogs and i guess she have had enough already. haha....

wel i am not sating all malays are bad ppl but they have to be rasional as i do really respect them religiously too, it is also sad to here that your b/f condo is bias to dog owners, i would suggest u move to a dog friendly place cause arguing with them is not a good thing too..hope you will find peace with the commitee of the condo...my dogs are now living happily without having to worry about ppl complaining as my new neighbour has a dog too... it is actually the same thing with malays having cats, chinese do not like cats as well..well not all but most of them....so i think it is a give and take thingy. no one could have a win win situation if you want peace in the neighbour hood, well hope my lost doggie, Coffee is in good hands now and if he died hope he rest in peace..

Dear Bailey

I'm fully understand your feeling and anger, caused I'm staying in condo presently.

The LAW that prohibiting pets in condo/apartment was establish more then 10 years ago, whereby our neighbour country already allowed dog in condo/apartment.

My wish is to gather more people who had this kind of bad experience to raise their voice to the local authority urge them to review the LAW and put in consideration to allow certian dog in such accomodation.

At this point, the guard stand their right to be nasty as they backup by the LAW, but if the LAW is allowed then neither the resident, guard or even muslim has anything to say.

Our new PM said he wish to see more union in the country, so this is the time that we could attempt to change the situatuon slowly.

Btw, there is a dog training at Taman Desa nearby your condo, you are welcome to pay visit. There is an active group in this forum where they have a lot of activities, you may consider to join them.

hi bailey, i can feel ur anger too! and when i see the phase, 'if I did not respect their beliefs I would have ask my Bailey to jump on them and lick their face kau kau. .. let them wash their face with mud 7 times baru tau.' i cant stop laughing... so cute, the way u phase it... i'm also staying in a condo, with 3 dogs at home, and no one complaint at all... i always bring them down to carpark to walk walk, and everyone seems to like them. including those guards, they dare not say anything. if u really wanna complaint, complaint to those management. no point arguing with those guards... but i feel the malay lady who say that she cant take the lift, etc or bla bla bla, i find that she is very stupid lor...so that means, she cant even pass by the shop selling bak ku teh la... or when there is bakuteh shop near 500m away, then she must stop breathing la..coz the frangance fly here and there what...use char siew bun throw them then they know... i got frens who are malay like dog very much also, somemore she play with my dog...i really dislike those people, who hate dog, and when we bring our cutie dog out, they look at the dog with a kind of stupid look...so stupid... but they never realized that some of the dogs are actually more loyal and clever than those stupid people. they wanna say like they are so loyal la, faithful la , and so religious towards thier god, but actually they are not what..look at the pub and disco now..so many malays are drinking, and kissing in public...some of them i saw, wear so little that my bra has got more cloth than them..stupid... and so many youngster actually got pregnant b4 marriage and at a very young age..so don 'ban4 qing1 gao1' (donno u understand or not. it means act like those very noble person) i think compare to those 'malay cannot do rules' all those what they are doing now is more serious offence then touching a dog...! i think it is best that u can choose to stay somewhere where they is few or no malays at all... then such things will be lesser... :)

Hi bailey,

i can understand ur anger/frustration about this matter. But maybe just try to look at it on the guards side, "orders" are given from the management and they would have to follow it, else they would get into trouble (its just "work" to them) - maybe take this up with the management rather than have a fit with the guards / residense.

"So long as our dogs do not disturb or annoy our neighbours and the owners are responsible, there should not be a cause for complaint. " - no doubt that you are a responsible owner, but not everyone is.. i think you would agree on this yourself. We can't be closing our eye's and just ignore the other problems that comes from irresponsible owners - notice sometimes u step into dog poop Crazy or u'll see ur neighbours dogs tearing up rubbish bags Unsure, etc.. maybe these are the main cause that these "Laws" are implemented.

And i seriously think that its not fair to only blame it on muslim ppl about these ridiculous laws, but there are "dog haters" as well.. Its just how they are brought up and not what religion they follow or what their beliefs are

Hope no one takes offend of this, but its just whats on my mind... BlushWink

Dear Binky,

I do agreed with what you mentioned in the forum, we should not blame those people who heat doggie and the guards who just carry out their works.

That's why many people in this .com is send their doggie for training, and at the same time they get train as weel to be a more responsible owner. They are putting a lots of efforts promoting a more muture environment for doggie.

One thing I wish you could aware is, due to constrain by those outdated LAW and unfair complaints, it has makes dozens of doggie life being put down at SPCA, some puppy is just come into this world for few days.

We hope to see things to changes soonest possible.

Re: [binky] Dog unfriendly place [In reply to] Can't Post

Dear Binky,

As i have stated in my last paragraph, what I have written is not intended as a slur against Muslims or Malays in general. Yes I do agree that there are dog haters irregardless of race or religion. But there is also such a thing as tolerance towards dog owners. It work both ways you know.

I have no quarrel with the guard as i know he only wants to cari makan. I just did not like his way of enforcing it which I found it to be terribly rude. But then what can you expect from a lowly paid uneducated security guard.

I did some research on the current by-laws governing the licensing of dogs in Kuala Lumpur and the summary are as follows:-

For landed property:-

a) no person shall maintain or harbour more than one dog on his premises which has an area of 300 sq metres or less;

b) no person shall maintain or habour more than 2 dogs on his premises which has an area of more than 300 sq meters.

So, all of those dog owner with more than 2 dogs are definitely breaching this bylaws.

For condos/apartments/properties with strata title-

Lets just say all resident owners in condos with dogs are definitely breaching the by-laws including myself.

I also found out that my BF's apartment has a general house rules which states that no PETS are allowed into the condo premises. So, what is the definition of Pets -- Hah... this means by reading this house rules strictly, all those residents with cats, mice, hamsters, dogs, fishes, birds ie. any animals kept as a pet are not allowed in the condo. So if they are fair, the management should enforce the house rules strictly and fairly across the board and not only against dog owners!

It is time for the local authority to review the law ... as our leaders said they wish our country to be more competative and a par with others.

HI Smile

Well said... I couldn't have put it in better words... its been far too long for us to just keep quiet and allow these shallow minded ppl to push us around... this unjustice towards our furkids is getting out of hand... from this excause to that... I think its about time that the socalled democratic goverment do something about this... true its nothing big but it will cause lots of racial issues if shallow minded religious fanatics keep pressing that because its some kind of teaching they have, we are supposed to live like them too... we cannot bring our furkids anywhere... no parks... not even for walks... then they have this really dumb idea to make us get consent from neighbours for keeping our furkids... what next?... Only idea I have is a petition or a letter to someone influential... that someone has to love animals too... but I dunno anyone in that status... i know that there is supposed to be an online email we the citizens can send our ideas and vies to the PM office... but I do not know waht is the add...

Its very frustrating coz situation is not getting any better but worse instead... if you know the jungle treckers group who takes their furkids our every weekend to bukit gasing, they too are being stopped... seems the authorities have came to know about them hiking there and because some bumiputras making noise, they are going to put up a signboard not allowing dogs... Mad beats me why they are so d*mn paranoid... like as if our furkids are monsters... it is them who are the weirdos...

Dear ladee_m,

I've did that by written a simple complaints to the PM, but I don't think it will have any progress.

We need more powerful action to show them our unhappiness ...

I know the incident about the Jungle Tracking, may be after they have put out the signboard then we could make "ho ha" and bring up to a big issue, caused since the day one, there is a reserved jungle and because of those people compliant, then the local authority not allow doggie there, this could be come up to races issues.

So sorry to hear what you have gone though. The standard is really not set properly for owners of condo with dog. I used to stay in a condo also. I can see like out of 10 house almost like 5 of them have dogs in the condo. I have some malays friends who also rare dog and I think that is really not a problem. Is just the mindset of the person is making all this kind of judgement towards dogs and owners. This is really unfair. Even staying terrace house you will need to get permission from 2 side neighbour to keep dog in your house. I wonder what kind of idiotic rules is this.

Dear Kitconnie78,

It is unfair due to another major population who can not touch the dog.

But time has changed, now is 21st century ... that why we need the local authorities to review what was set many years ago which can not apply to nows a day living.

SJ is implemented such a rule that you need to get consent from neighbour before you rare a dog ... the reason is people in this country is more educated and they stand their right to make complaints without consideration "living in harmony" by communicate with neighbour.

Another issue we should be looking at is more responsible doggie owner ... keep the doggie quiet and ensure the cleniness wherever the doggie been.

There is a doggie training going on at Taman Desa every Sunday 5pm, you could drop by to see how are they putting efforts to train up the doggie.

Yes I agree it is very unfair on this issue with dogs. The dog rule they have is like 20 years ago. The funny thing is it only apply to dogs and not other animals like cats. I wonder what is the reason behind it. A lot of people just like to make complaint. I don't think there is any way to satisfy everyone's need. So I guess neighbour need to give and take.

I Agree that keeping dog you need to make sure the area around the house must be clean enough. If not is going to have bad smell all over.

My silky terrier already completed obedience before with MKA. So is like the will be good enough to behave and understand pretty well what she can or cannot do.

Hi Bailey and all,

Once the guards at my condo also did a check on all the apartments for dogs. I wonder why only dogs when it were the cats who shit on the staircases! Although they did not manage to catch me (luckily my dog is the quiet type) there and then, I was a bit unlucky to have to open my door when the guard came to check on the electrical metres right outside my house. They told me dogs are not allowed. So I asked them back what about other animals?? They said only dogs not allowed. Funny!!...so I told them that my furkid is not a dog, it's a pig. Acceptable right? Only dogs not allowed, so pigs must be allowed I guess....

He wrote down my apartment number anyway but till now, and it's been two years, nothing's happening....

hmmm...nice that faber heights is ok with furkids....mine at faber tiara put up a sign (officially now) that furkids are now allowed. mentioned about barking etc...which i have to admit that some furkids have been barking up the walls lately. and someone is not picking up after their poochie either in the gardens....sigh

we're still staying on with shalom....but management is well aware of her as they came up to have a look at our place (darn new building leaking at the windows....).

thankfully, shalom is obedient..no barking or whines...

but yeah...i understand how you feel. its very upsetting....and i really wonder what racial tolerance is expected when we can't even have our furkids with us.

how's the condition now? still visiting bf with bailey?

Hi,

I visited BF over the long break and stayed over as usual. Brought Bailey with me. What I did was to drive her out morning and night for her to poo and pee just about 300 metres from the condo. They can't stop me cos I have the pass card. Normally, Bailey likes to sit on the backseat and look out the window admiring the scenery. So I have trained her to lie down everytime we pass the guard house!! Such a sneak artist she is!! he he...When I park my car, my eyes are like a CCTV camera, scanning all around for Malay residents and patrolling guards. There was once I drove around in circles 4 times around the car park while waiting for a guard and some Malay residents to go away. When I use the lift, I wait in a corner to see whether there is anyone in there and quickly run in with Bailey and pray hard that no one will stop the lift on the ground floor. It was fun but I felt so bad and guilty having to subject her to such devious tactics. She definitely deserves to be treated better with respect and dignity instead of being just an illegal visitor to BF's place. And the worst part, she is being discriminated against just by the fact that she is a dog when she has done no wrong in the first place.
