Oh ... for sure puppy milling exists here ... just not on as large a scale as in some other countries ... Backyard breeding however is becoming more widespread ... I suspect that is because it's relatively easy for a backyard breeder to pretend to be a responsible breeder ...
And there appears to be a new trend ... more pet shops seem to be importing puppies from Thailand ... Taiwan and Australia ...
Agree with you about public awareness & education ... They are always critical elements in any battle against wrong practices, whatever they may be ...
In that respect ... I think Puppy.com does a great job ... It provides a place where anyone can visit, read and learn about dogs, about when, why, how to breed (and when not to breed) ... a place to learn and understand the differences between responsible breeding and backyard breeding & puppy milling ... And gives chance to interract with other people who love their dogs ... All for FREE ...
And like you posted earlier ... if we all stop buying from pet shops ... the backyard & puppy mill breeding will stop ... Remember that advert by WWF ... "... When the buying stops, the killing will too ..."
thanks for posting your views from another perspective...you have very good points there...but we'll just try our best to educate the public about this. if no one's going to do anything, to spread the msg about the truth of puppymills and petshops and bad breeders, we'll be having more and more dogs, esp purebreds that are not sound and healthy and the standard will deteriorate.
