Leash law

Hello all,
Some US states imposed leash law on dogs that leave premises. The owner will get compound if unleashed dogs found wandering on the street.
I agree with the regulation as many dogs may hit by car or cause unneccessary accidents.
I just witnessed a motorbike accident last week. The dog ran across the road but hit by a motorbike, died instantly. The driver and his bike were seriously injured & damaged. This accident can be avoided if the dog is under proper supervision. It was a licensed dog but owner is unknown.
No parents will let their children run loose on the street, then why dogs?
Pls share your thoughts.

Re: [Trivor] Leash law

Hi Sze Chun,

They have such rules in M'sia too. If those dogs with / without licence roam in public, the majlis perbandaran still have the rights to catch them.

Re: [Trivor] Leash law

Hi trivor,

So sad to hear that the doggie hit by motorcycle, i did saw the accident like this b4 but it's a cat, he suddenly run out from house then staright forward to road side n hit on a moving motor then he still can running n he hit by car again, me n my fren thought he's die but he jz standing up n run back to the house, wat a surprise.

I agree that should have a law that the owner should prepare leash when they bring out their pet, it may reduce those accident

Re: [sweeeng] Leash law

Hello Swee Eng,
How about impose compound on the owners who let their dogs run loose?
To catch the roaming dogs will cause no "pain" to the owners. Poeple may think, "I'll get a new one lorrr", as if inventories, replaceable inventories... how sad.
I would suggest if the run loose dogs caused unneccessary accident (hit by car...), the owners will get sentense/ heavy fine from govt.

Re: [Trivor] Leash law

Hi Trivor,

"impose compound on the owners who let their dogs run loose" Yes that's good and it must be done. Most of the time it is never the dog on the wrong side but the dog is always the victim. Some majlis bandaran or daerah take action on dogs because the dog is out of the house but somehow the owner is free. There was once a the people let their gate open for the dogs to go out and get on with its biz and I waswalking my rotti with my son on bic the dog ran out of the house and jumped on my son ,Izac our rotti pulled and ran after the dog into the owner's house this lady came out shouting "how come your dog can come in to my house....." when i told her what happen she said dogs are like thatlah you must be careful!!!! when i told her taht she has to keep the dog inside and get a dog tagfrom the majlis daerah she just said ok ok and closed the door. But this did not end there, many were victims of her dog and the majlis came and warned her then she got rid of the dog (buang dalam hutan) reason dog gets her in a lot of trouble.Seedog are the victims and the owner is happy and free.

Re: [Dar] Leash law

Not sure if Malaysia is ready to impose the leash law, but it would really help to prevent unneccessary accidents and lost of lifes.
Always, there is lope hole for human to run away from justice, such as the lady owner who got rid of her dog as he brought too muh "problems" to her Frown

Re: [Dar] Leash law

hello dar,

how could she buang dalam hutanCrazyMad I just cannot understand why some ppl are so absent minded..even if the dog causes a lot of troubles, she shouldn't have done such thing...

actually i think as long as people don't change and remain "uneducated" about taking care of their dogs, this kind of thing is going to continue happening...keeping dogs on leash is not bad at all...you get to bring your dog out there freely and others without a dog can also walk freely without fearing of being attacked..

Re: [strawhoney] Leash law

SmileHello there,

I hope I'm in the right thread for what I'm going to write...
I've having problems walking my dog. I'm not sure why dog owners do not leash their dogs when their house gates are open. Whenever I walk my dog, their dogs will come rushing out trying to attack me and my dog!Mad The dogs are vicious tooMad! I've tried many routes to walk Dome but every road has the same problem. Whenever I see their dogs running out, I will scream like hell until everybody runs out of their house to see what happened. The owners will just laugh at me and asked me not to walk here anymore! Can you imagine that?!Mad I told him the road does not belong to him and he said one more smart remark out of me, he'll set the dog to attack me! I told him if he dares, he'll be in deep shit! What's the matter with these people!? Now I have to resort to drive to a park to walk Dome but the park is quite far and to go there I have to endure the jam. By the time I reached the park, it's quite dark already. What to do?! I really wish now I have a bigger dog and I'll set my dog on their dog and owners.
Moreover, there's these 2 stray bitches and their on heat. Can you imagine the stray dogs in my area! They'll be constantly fighting each other and to walk to my car, it's hazardous to me and my dog! Once, when I was walking to my car with Dome, the stray dogs were surrounding me while I was carrying Dome, showing me their teeth! Yikes!Pirate Anyway, Dome being a puppy still, of course curious, started to bark at them! My God! The barkings from the stray dogs were deafening!

Re: [snoopdog] Leash law

If you really feel strongly about this, then I suggest you go lodge a police report against those people who threatened you. It is a criminal offence to issue threats like what you had described.

As for the stray dogs, you can call up your local council (maybe even SPCA) to take them away. However, if those dogs actually belong to someone (e.g. wearing a licence/ collar), worse still. The owner has been negligent because in letting those fierce dogs loose, he/she had endangered someone's personal safety or even life. This is also a criminal offence.

Otherwise, carry a stick with you next time and hit it on the ground each time any "fierce" dogs come close (make sure you it makes a loud sound). Hopefully, the sound would scare the dogs. Then continue walking confidently, at the same time be conscious of what those dogs are doing. Dogs are very good at reading body language.

If all else fails, then avoid all the trouble and choose another area to walk your dog.

Good luck.

Re: [snoopydog, ALL] Leash law

hi there,

i'd just like to point out that SPCA does not capture loose strays, as they do not have the time and manpower to do so. thus local authority would be the right place to turn to. however if the person has the stray captured in an enclosed compound, then SPCA can be contacted to take the stray away.

Hi snoopdog,

Don't misunderstand, I didn't mean to ask you to beat the dogs coz it's not their fault. Otherwise, you wouldn't be any better than those irresponsible owners. But if you want, you can beat those owners !! Just kidding.Wink. The stick is just to SCARE the dogs away.

WinkNo lah snoopydog,

Of course i'm not going to whack the dogs. Just jokingTongue! Whack owners, yes!Pirate

Anyway, I met this man walking his GSD and he also feels the same way as I do. he's also very angry at some of the irresponsible owners. he also had some few words with them. But he decided to avoid anymore conflicts, he uses other routes. Not fair lah! Mad
