Recently,i adopted a shih tzu from petfinder.I named her jiyu.She's adorable and cute.BUt when jiyu was hand on to me,i can smell an unpleasent smell coming from her.my whole family are complaining about that.I thought the smell will gone after i gave her a bath.It did,but after fifteen minutes,the unpleasent smell are coming again.Anyone here can help me???
If it is a fishy smell then it is most probably caused by impacted anal glands & you will need to take her either to your Vet or a Groomer & ask them to expel the glands for you. They must be expressed periodically, or the dog will stink to high heaven. If left for too long, the glands can become infected & be very painful for the dog.

If your shih tzu continues to have trouble with anal sacs even after guidelines given by GoldenAddict...try switching to higher fiber diet. This produces heavier stool that may help empty it when she defecates. If that still don't work, you might opt for an anal sacculectomy surgical and will permanently remove it. Good luck
