Jungle Trekking @ Tmn Pendidikan Bkt Gasing on April 15th, 2006 - ROUND 67 !!!

Date : April 15th, 2006

Meeting Venue : Taman Pendidikan Bukit Gasing

Time : 7.45 am

into the jungle by 8.00 AM pls note that we will not wait for anyone who is late....as we do not want to attract anymore unwanted attention from none dog lover. I hope you can understand .... so pls be punctual.

Join us in the list below :

Direction 1 :

From Padang Merbok's roundabout use the way towards Telekom. After driving passed Telekom on your left you will see a row of shoplot and signboard of a restaurant called Lotus Just before Lotus Restaurant, on your right, you will see a Chinese Temple and there is a junction. Turn right. After turning do go all the way straight for about 200 - 300 meter and there should be a playground of some sort and you can park your cars there. There should be a signboard that says : Tmn Pendidikan Bukit Gasing.

Direction 2 :

Beside the Lasalle School, there is the Raju Restaurant ?go straight all the way up and you will reach a T junction. At the T junction do turn to your right and go all the way straight you should be able to see the playground.

Things to take note of :

1. Dogs have to be on leash/harness on all times.
2. Please pick up after our furkids poo.
3. Bring plastic bags
4. Bring water for human n for furkids
5. Wear stockings
6. Have a good pair of walking shoe or sneakers.
7. One dog per person is highly recommended as it's a real jungle trail.
8. Bring your mobile just incase you need to call for rescue. :P
9. Don't wear too short a shorts if you are afraid of being scratch by the bushes and donating blood to the mozzy ya !
10. PLEASE BRING AN EXTRA COLLAR or HARNESS just incase the one you are using broke or snapped.
11. Do be considerate n make way for other trekkers to passed us by esp to those who is not in our group with dogs.

but ruels No.1 : Pick up the poo when your dogs done the business !

there isn't any "Pet Not Allowed" sign,so no worries, leash your dog if there is any muslim or some times some chinese also scared of dog..unleash your dog only if you are confident he won't run away or chasing any small animals...

we will meet at the entrance at 8.a.m,

some members will feed thier dog before they come, but I usually feed only after I arrive home.

We will have our usual trek this Saturday.

I don't know if my dog is physically capable of finishing the trek. He has a partially broken back leg, but it still can be used, although he limps on it once in a while. How long is the trek for? And are there any obstacles there, such as jumping over a fallen tree or something?

the trek will only take 1 hour + if we were to walk non-stop. but we will usuall stop for rest and end the trek after 2.5 hours.

there will be fallen trees around and some climbing for the dogs.i wonder what's the size of your dog? if he's small enough, maybe u can give him a lift if he face some difficulties.

actually we do have a limping shih tzu who join us for trekking, but he's doing find although he's always limping.

u can also feel free to check out the place before bringing your dog.

There's been a landslide close to the start of the trek so certain parts quite narrow. But we made it thru and hopefully the rain will not cause further landslides there.

I brought my 4mth old pup on Sat and she really enjoyed herself after the initial refusal to walk on mud till she got dunked in the water... lol!

Bit of a climb and slippery coz of the mud that morning but not too bad if let our dogs go off-leash for that part. Had no choice but to let Daisy go off-leash then as my pup refused to walk so I had to carry her.

We also saw another part further up along the trek that looked like cud slide soon. Hope not. Just have to start new track further in/up the hill.

I guess you can only let your dogs off leash if they come back when you call them. That means, I can't let my dog off-leash, he will run away. :p

Yeah, the first time I took Daisy trekking, I didnt dare let her off-leash. Could just imagine her running off and me having to chase her in the jungle... Crazy

I tried letting her off-leash the second time we went and she seemed fine. But out of the jungle, her recall is not so good. Quite terrible actually... lol

will advise to put your dog under control if he's still new to the place. u can bring along a flexi leash to give your dog more freedom

whether anot ur dog will run away on his own in the jungle, depends on how adventurous your dog is.

so far, only terriers and my mutt loves to check out the jungle on their own. other dogs usually stick to their owner or play with other dogs and will not venture face away...

Well, there was once I accidentally left the gate open and he ran out. He ran so far away. I had to run so fast to see where he was going. Then he stopped. I cornered him and put the leash on him and took him home. I will never leave the gate open again. Nearly got heart attack. Car coming and he don't want to move, standing in the middle of the road. That was when I first got him. I'm not sure how he is now. Will there be a trek on May 3? I would love to come then.

Try this next time.if your dog run to one direction, , call his name get his attention and run in oppsoite direction, he shall folow you, unless he is chasing a cat or something,he will think you are palying along with him if you you chase after him and he will run faster..

. I've learned this from my friend and it really works.

i had plenty of experience of dogs under my care running out of the house gate. once they had the chance to do it, they will find it really fun and getting rid of the habit is difficult. Not only the street is dangerous and i had tough time to get them back, they wouldn't careless about you calling because they know where their house is.

so with all the bad experience i had, i never let Pacco had the chance to run out from the gate since day one. i will make sure i hold on to her, chain her or lock her up before my family open the gate.

By now she's 3.5 yrs old, even the gate is wide open, she wouldn't even think out running out alone.

but the situation during jungle trekking and other outdoor activities are different. the unfamiliar environment will make your dog wary and they will usually choose to stay close to the owner.

P/s: we inform u if there's a trek on may 3

There was another tree down when we went on Thur. This one fell across the stream so we have to climb over the branches to get across. Hopefully the hot weather hardens the ground.

Yes, we bring the dogs with us to the breakfast place. Some lucky dogs even get to share in the breakfast. We go to the Indian Restaurant (3rd last shoplot from the end) closest to the field (Padang Merbok).

Both of them recovering....Jiro is sensitive to the weather change, 99% ok already.

hi,yes, we will be trekking again on this saturday. Both Ayako & Jiro will complete the trek..AYAKO is hyperactive, Jiro will mark his territory till the end.

After that they will sleep the whole day...

Your Pek's hair is so long.better brign the catty bag...I guess most of the Pek dont' like excercise,AYAKO & Jiro is exceptional as there start jungle trekking asd young as 4 months old,they lieks to meet thier frinds on weekend.
