I can understand how bad we must feel that a dog was left to die. But, in all fairness, we should not crucify the establishment, in this case, the Pet Safari, because this predicament was probably due to an individual's negligence and poor judgemnt. If you know the inside story, you would know that the management was unaware at that time, that such a cruel act was committed. The best part is, despite this, they were willing to face the music.

Let's be fair and face it. The Pet Safari is probably the most comprehensive Pet Specialist Centre in town. It has brought products and services into Malaysia previously unavailable to Malaysians. In short, it has brought the pet industry into a different level. I'm sure a lot of people will lose the benefits of better and newer products if things were to go sour and if it were to close down because we choose to be ignorant and see only one side of the picture.

In short, I would like to commend you on your big heart and feeling bad for this poor little puppy. But let's be bigger than that too and not punish an entire organization for one man's sick act.

I understand that you may be upset over what happened. To be frank, I'm extremely upset too!! But that does not warrant me to be the judge and in your case, (the jury) and decide weather or not it is due to an individual's negligence. It is quite unfair to assume that everybody working there is free and standing around doing absolutely nothing and therefore it is impossible for them to have missed it. I'm sorry to have been that direct.

Look, I'm an animal lover myself. I personally know the vet at the pet safari and I know that if he were aware of this incident, he would have done something. The fact is that the dog was left to die in a secluded area where it was out of sight to most people. It is the person that left the dog to die that should be punished and not the establishment!

Imagine if you worked at a factory making world class pencils and your family's living and future depended on your income alone. What if because of one faulty pencil, not by your doing I might add, everyone decides not to buy your company's particular brand of pencil and your factory has to close down? Be logical and wise when making such decisions. Does one faulty pencil make the entire brand unsafe?

Put your hand on your heart and (I'll ask everyone reading this to do the same) when you walk into the Pet Safari, ask yourself this question, have you in all your life seen a pet shop that carries such a wide and contemporary range of products in Malaysia? Go and personally count the number of pet food brands available, the number shampoos, treats and what have you not. It is simply unmatched. Now, ask yourself, what if this place has to close down and your pet's life depended on a product that was only sold there? I bet you would be thinking differently.

You think this is personal negligence? Only 1 person caring for the doggie at that place? Don't think so la can't be 1 person take care the doggie there all the time right.Tongue I don't mine if the place close down atleast less animal suffering and died like the poodle. Like you say if the vet there know about this sure he will do something but that fact that he don't know!!!

The product that they are selling very expensive sumore no discount. Sorry I don't realise the place carry full range of dog product.Blush As there are some brand I never heard of don;t dare to buy to my doggie summore the staff there are not knowlegeble about the product they are sellingFrown.

Me & my wife go there every weekend for gym will just drop by that place go 1 round and see all those poor doggie in the cageBlush. Look at the dog they are selling. Look at the Silky Terrier selling there just today 28/8/2005. Super mini size Silky Terrier (irresponsible breeder), Big stomach (suspect got worm), dull coat & watery eye (Malnutrition), No water available, & dandruff. Very Sad la I every week go there and look at this poor doggie.

But the best thing is they provided Installment available for purchasing dog there. LOL

But, from my point of view...I think these people who neglected this sick puppy are very very irresponsible and I wonder their heart is make of iron or something else? How can they see this puppy is suffering and refuse to send to vet. This is very offensive. I used to be regular to Pet Safari, after I read that news, I decided not to buy anything from them. They are so sick!

i totally agree wif u...dats y after i know about this incident..i wanna let all dog lovers know n aware of wat this pet shop has done to this poor puppy...i feel so sad after reading this news....didnt know this could happen to a famous pet shop in PJ....im also one of the regulars in pet safari...only few days ago i went there to buy my dog food..if i knew n heard this news earlier i wouldnt have gone there to buy the food..... Frown

im really really disappointed wif the incident that haf happened.....although buddhist believe that they should not euthanize...but issit also a buddhist believe to leave a sick dog to die just like dat????????

When I read everyone's posting, I'm very sad..... Sad for the puppy that died and even sadder that people in general do not see the big picture. They choose to live in their well and believe what they want to believe. Mr. Khoo, do you think that suppliers do not need the Pet Safari to showcase thier products? Do you think that just because you want to import a product such as pet food, it is as simple as going into the net and placing your order? What quantities are you prepared to order before you get the kind of discounts that mega stores get?

Mr. Chrissong, I'm truely amazed that you go there every weekend to view puppies being mistreated but then you just stand around and not take action about it! Why didn't you stand up for the puppies if you were truly a dog lover and tell the owners or the management off? Instead, you decide to go behind and crucify an entire organization. Why?.... I'll tell you why, because it is probabbly easier to do so!

I'm ashamed, ashamed that the Pet Safari has allowed this to happen, ashamed that we humans who have evolved and are supposedly far superior to other animals, but are capable of mistreating another life. Mostly, I'm ashamed of the people who make loud noises and point fingers when there is such an occurence, but do not in actuality, do anything. Why the hypocrisy? Do you really care? What have you really done or are prepared to do to help this animal or other animals who may suffer the same fate? My guess is probably nothing... I'm sad to say that outwardly all your concerns seem genuine but inwardly, you seem to be more enthusiastic about destroying someone's reputation than bettering the situation. This will be my last posting on the subject. I hope all of you sleep well tonight.

Hey Addict...I guess you must be thinking the whole Malaysia only got ONE pet shop which is Pet Safari!! There are many other petshops also sell those imported dog food. We are not destroying their reputation but they choose to destoy it by themselves for being irresponsible. There are so many workers, dont tell me everyone of them are so busy until dont have the time to call a vet or something. It's such a sick act! Dog has life, too. Their life also as valuable as human's. It really shock me when I read this news, plus the picture of the miserable puppy...it's so offensive to humane people! Mad We are not making loud noise or point the finger to them. It's a FACT that they mistreat and being inhumane to puppy. Errmm...I also wonder are you one of the Pet Safari's employee or the boss?

Some people are just interested in making money.

That poor puppy was left to die. Animals don't just DIE suddenly. I'm sure the puppy was suffering for a very long time before it had to die. There would have been plenty of time to send the puppy to the vet. But it didn't even get that chance.

Because no one bothered.. or maybe no one noticed, even worse.

If a staff is negligent and to be blamed for this, then Pet Safari is vicariously liable because it is their responsibility to make sure their staff are doing their job. Which obviously they can't even do properly. Useless.

As a matter of fact, I do take action if you must know. I constantly tell the staff to pick up the shit and complain directly to the owner of the puppy section that some dogs are getting too big for their cages. If they do not do anything, at least my conscience is clear...As to reply to Modjo or whoever your name is, you are right to say that the pet safari is not the only pet shop in town. However, are you so ignorant as to think that such an incident has only happened at the pet safari? tsk! Tsk! Think again..(that's if you even think at all) before you gun down and slander others. Don't forget that when you point a finger, there are three fingers pointing right back at you! All you can say is that the staff are useless, didn't do anything, blah! blah! blah! like an old woman. Have you even ran an establishment of this magnitude before? If you're that capable, you would probably be the boss of one. By the way, If you must know, I'm not the boss of the safari. I just visit it often (like you mr. Chrissong) but unlike you, I have the guts to speak up and not hide behind my computer! Also, I am not running away..... Thank you so much! At least i finally got through to someone who understands the situation and is matured enough to see the whole picture. If those dimwits or whatever they chose to call me, even bothered to comprehend the article that was written, they would have known that the pet shop responsible for the cruel act was the "wonderful world of pets", a sub-tenant of the pet safari. Again, if you have read the article, you would have made out that the place is an economic grouping of a few players under one roof. In this case, the puppy player is responsible for the act. He should be shot! But, does it mean that the poor sales man selling fishes at the fish section should get buried too? Shallow minded and people looking for a witch hunt will tell you YES! But then again, they are shallow people and that is why they will remain where they are for the rest of their lives.... Sad....

For all of you who bludgeoned me for standing up and saying what i feel is just, i say thank you! You have just proven my case to the many number of people who will be reading this forum. Anyone with any sense of discernment will be able to see that behind this all, you have your own private agendas of being "heard". Honestly, if you're blaming on a certian individual who just left the poodle on a secluded area without even informing the boss about it. That's IRRESPONSIBLE i call it. and by rite, the boss should just sack that fella. I love Donald Trump's phrase "You're FIRED" .

but hey...wait....the buyer did come back after one week and reclaim back the cash of the purchase rite??? wah, an employee fork out his/her own money to pay for the poodle? and without informing the employer???? Frown so rich ar the employee. I'm SURE every tom, dick and harry in an establishment will sure ly inform their employee about this kinda matter and it also involves CASH. I'm sure they'll ask the boss to pay or even the boss who handled this matter will surely pay the buyer.

To sum everything, no matter what, I think the employer are completely aware of this matter; a poodle being returned and do nothing about it once they managed to settle the matter fast so that the buyer will not wreck havoc in their establishment at the point of returning the poodle.

The fact about the dead poodle is true and even newpapers are distributing the news so is this wrong by informing other about this matter?

My heart goes out to that poor pup. Like most people I'm boycotting Pet Safari. Like one of the members posted and asked us to see the bigger picture.... I guess that member felt that he/she saw the bigger picture. I feel if Pet Safari can rent out the space they should be responsible enough to keep an eye on their tenants. What their tenants do will ultimately affect them. They cannot claim ignorance.

just a thought to discuss if u dont mind, if we were to boycott the pet safari isnt it it seems unfair to other tenants? especially i do noticed there is a section for cats which under renovation, which means they will start operating after this incident happens, so it is kinda affect the innocent parties due to the wrong doer's act.

well it is just a thought, i hope nobody will come & say im supporting this & that leh, kinda frequent happen here..

I don't mind. You're entitled to have your opinion. Well for me whether it's unfair or not to the other tenants doesn't really bother me. I mean it's a small place, people working there have to hang out together for the working hours and I have seen them moving around and chit chatting. Maybe someone else knew about the sick pup, it kinda' seems impossible only one person knew. Plus the excuses they gave in the newspaper was far from acceptable, not like there could have been an acceptable excuse. I doubt the pup died in an hour or two. I'm sure it suffered for a while.

Since those people are so concerned about profit, the best way to hit them is to kill their profit margin. So I'm doing my part like some of the other members here.

Yes! You're so right! Only support those petshop run by individual dog lovers unlike those huge establish chains have no conscience toward small animals. They treat them like products on the shelf. If you happen to come to Penang, please check out K-9 Pets on Mecalister Road! They are the BEST!

Still, I never thought of 'boycotting' Pet Safari though I have to say.

Im only here for the sake of discussion regarding what happened.

i was getting dissapointed with this thread until u came along.

Suddenly we were being called 'childish, immatured, u win i win etc etc' so annoying.

So called 'big picture'.

One day this person is going to go to a supermarket, slip on a slippery floor hit his head and die, then his family will say "Nvm la, must look at the big picture.. maybe only one of the staff forgot to put a warning saying the floor was slippery. let's be nice and not blame anyone"

I am not so sure about that weather they are GAM tak GAM with the VET there?... BUT For me that people on the DOGS shop is really STUPID... By not bringing the Poodle to the VET..

Maybe Bringing to the VET might not bring any good to the poodle but at least they do the best before the the poodle and if i am not mistaken that the poodle that the owner LADY have she brought from the DOG SHOP in pet safari... and SHOULD THEY BE VACINATED THE PUPPY BEFORE Give to the customer...?? And They Left the poodle to DIE... this is cruel.. And I think the point for this TREAT post by meijiun is not to LET eveyone here argue and pointing finger to each other in the forum... and IF you all CAN PLEASE be more OPEN.. Coz I think the reason of the TREAT is to let eveyone know that they have to be more careful to choose the right PETSHOP that care for their puppy and kitten they are selling not simply choose and to prevent someone here in the forum and expseically beginner like myself to be a victim to the DOGS SHOP in Pet safari... .. WELL is that TRUE meijiun my friend??

well....the main purpose i post this thread is to let everyone be aware of wat has happened in Pet Safari....this incident is truly disappointing n i guess anyone would not expect this incident to happen in such a big n reputable pet shop like Pet safari...like many others im also one of the regulars there...not that i want to spoil their reputation but i think that everyone deserves to know wat has happened...n this incident was truly irresponsible n this puppy was neglected by those who claim themselves as pet specialists... i did not post this thread to provoke ppl to boycott the place...it is their choice whether they still wanna go there a not....but for myself...i definately wont go there to buy any puppy as such incident has happened.. it is very important to buy puppies that are healthy n well taken care of....as a dog lover myself, i understand how u all feel n i too was angry when i first heard this news...knowing that not many ppl are aware of it so i chose to post it to share wif u all....

anyway...i hope that everyone who reads this thread will forward it to frens, family to let them be aware of wat has happened.. n to those who runs a pet shop, breeder should also be aware not to make the same mistake as pet safari...also be very careful if u r thinking of buying a puppy..make sure buy from a reliable pet shop...dog also deserves the right to be loved n cared... so choose wisely! (my opinion la Laugh)

Tongue I almost forgot about this incident until i read back all the very interesting arguments from you guys. B4 this, I read the news from newspaper only.

Well, regarding the issue about whether Addict is right or the rest are wrong, it doesn't matter. Infact, I'm very very happy to see everyone getting so emotional over this incident because that actually proves that WE CARE & WE ARE ALL ANIMAL LOVERS (young or old)!!! I'm glad that to see many ppl out there actually loves animals especially dogs more and more compared to those days how they treat dogs. U won't get emotional if you don't care for anything rite?

He he he... What a coincidence! I'm planning to visit Pet Safari this Thursday and I'm reading this Sly now. FYI, I'm not a frequent visitor there BUT i think it's alrite to just buy their products. Let me go and checkout if their other services are still as bad as per your comments.Crazy

I did complain to the staff of Pet safari several times about their pet. Pass motion already, eating stool and lying down on the stool. They just snubbed at me, and think who the hell is that guy. I also told them before one dog got flu and diarrhoea, they said impossible, they are vaccinated.

I even saw the staff gave packet of antibiotic to a client when the client said the puppy they bought started to have flu. Who gave them authority to treat animal and the license to prescribe medicine without the knowledge of the character of the antibiotic they just sold?

Is there a thread or section somewhere in this forum where members can give feedback about vets and petshops? Perhaps a moderated section, so obviously gratuitous, slanderous and deliberately malicious postings can be filtered out. It will increase our leverage as consumers and probably help people (and dogs) avoid going to the wrong places.

This topic sure made it as interesting read. Just sharing my parts here as I was actually quite a regular at this particular pet store. On product wise, they do carry a wide range of brands. I normally get my dog food there but stop doing that now as I found that the particular brand that I've being buying was no longer 'fresh' (slow stock turnover maybe). And on their stocks of dogs in particular (this is purely my personal opinion), I found that they do look sickly and lethargic. I saw the same condition when I was in Hatyai just only where puppies were selling from as cheap as RM600 a piece with the most expensive around RM1K, big and small breeds. I strongly suspected overtime puppy mills. The operators even offered delivery services to Malaysia (go figure!).

One of my furkids suffered from skin problem and I'm very selective of the brand(s) that I fed her. One of this pet store staff by the name of Brian (I think) did give me good advice on how to go about taking care of her. On top, I do get discount particularly on Tuesday, up to 15% as it is Lady's Day. I'm not advocating this store, mind you all but rather, as a smart consumer. As animal lover however, I do viewed any neglection gravely and shouldn't be tolerated.

On whether we should have a new thread for vets and petshops review, I do seconded this idea. My rationale, any business that deals with selling live entity should be more responsible and make accountable of the condition of their 'products', to provide a good environment once their charges are out of their hands. With pet stores mushrooming and with profit making as the ultimate aim, we should play our role as animal lovers first and smart consumers second to make our stand against irresponsible supplies and sellers. When there's no demand, there's no supply.
