Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi People!

We are planning to meet up for a hike with our furkids thru the green hills and streams of Bukit Kiara hiking trail. This trail is roughly 5km long amidst lush green tropical rain forest and some small streams. Perfect to work out those CNY pounds from all that feasting and yee-sang! Wink

The trail is divided into 3 sections as follows:

1. Main gate at the foothills to half way point - approx 15mins @ normal walking pace.

2. Half way point one circuit up and down the hills to come back one circle back at halfway point - approx 25mins normal walking pace.

3. Half way point back to main gate - approx 10mins (due downhill mostly)

Total walking time - 50mins (With some breaks at halfway points ..maybe 1hr or so to complete the trail)

Tips: Wear walking shoes or sneakers & Bring yr own water for yourself and the furkids.

All doggies to be on leash and as usual, be prepared to clean up after our doggies.

Interested? Please let us know here in this forum.

Date: 22Feb03 Time: 5.30pm (Weather permitting)

Map of location as follows:

Hey Arthur

Would love to join in the walk-walk! Sounds fun and helthy as well! By the way, is the Bukit Kiara trail you talk about the one that can also be accessed from Bukit Kiara club? (horse club)?

If we parked in the club, could we still meet you at the starting point, or would we need to follow the map you posted?

Hi Jennifer,

As long as you can meet us at the starting point, it may be better for you to park in the club. You know it is always congested at the public parking place. And yes, this is the same trial that can be accessed from the Bukit Kiara club. I have seen horses on the same trial on several occasions.

Re: [hcyeap] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi HcYeap,

Is Pepperboy still in Penang? Saw some nic pics of him swimming at the beach..That must have been fun. Can he swim or does he have to be coaxed to get into the water..Too bad he can't join us for this walk-walk.

And yes, I have seen several doggies that have to be carried by their owners halfway during the trail. Musta been couch potates! For those that belong to this category, they can elect to wait at the halfway point till the group comes back and meet up again at the same point. Not advisable to push too far too hard, right?

Hi Jennifer,

We plan to meet at the gate. Will post a pic later so it's everyone knows what we are talking about. Do not walk up to the cross roads yet till we gather the clan together and ascend the trail as a group.

And yes, I'll be there at yr place.

Re: [arthur] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi Arthur,

Pepperboy is now permanently based in Penang with his mummy because my work has me travelling to all states and s'pore very so often.

When I first took him into the sea, I ended up with scratches all over and I thought that he probably feared the waves. It was only when I was 30 meters out to sea, when I realise that he had overcome his fear and swam out to meet me. That wild eyed, panting look which said," Daddy, daddy... save me!" is one that I will never forget. Since, then...he's been out with me every time with hardly any coaxing and what can I say... MS are great swimmers... MS rules yeah!

Hi Gina!

Wedding dinner huh? Kena saman so fast already ah? Laugh

Still we can take up Jennifer suggestion to start 1 hour earlier say 4.30pm. This way we can be done by 6pm or so. Those that still have energy left can proceed further to the nearby Taman Rimba Kiara to cool off under the shady trees and the nice jogging track that circles round the lake... if not, we go for early dinner/late tea at one of the nearby shops in Taman Tun.

Let see what the rest say..

Hmm... arthur, I don't recognize that gate... I have a feeling it's the access gate from the Taman Tun side? The Bkt Kiara entrance is way far from there... if I walk up from Kiara car park, would probably do the whole walk before meeting you at the gate, then do it again! Laugh

How about we meet you at the THIS WAY TO YOUR GOOD HEALTH instead? If you pass me your mobile or something, we can communicate via phone that day... maybe I meet you at 4.45pm or something at the good health crossroads...

Hi there!

Ok... for directions, look up the old events forum for the 1st puppy gathering at taman rimba kiara. There are some directions listed there.

Now for the bukit kiara trail..at the end of the road, turn LEFT instead of right. (If you turn right, you'll go to the Taman) The trail is just nearby the park further up.

Ok, now you have turn left, follow the road a short distance and take the next RIGHT turn. This road will lead you directly to the car park where the trail begins. Look at the map. It makes more sense. Otherwise, can Ivan or Jtklee help out with the directions?

Re: [fxueyu] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi fxueyu,

I'll try my best to give the directions in words. So here goes:
  1. I presume you know how to get to Taman Tun Dr. Ismail? If so, I'll start from the Tmn Tun Pizza Hut.
  2. Coming from KL via Jalan Damansara - when approaching Tmn Tun, you will come to first set of traffic lights. Turn right. You will see Pizza Hut on your right.
  3. After you turn right, go straight. You will come to another set of traffic lights. You will also see IBM building on your right (can't miss it!). Go straight. At the end of the road, it will bend to the left. Follow the road.
  4. After you come out of the left bend, make first turning to your right.
  5. Keep going straight (slight upward slope). At the end of the road, you will see that the road branches into 3 directions. Take the left branch.
  6. Here, you should see lots of cars parked by the road side. Find a parking and walk up the road. You will come to the gate where the adventure begins! (see Arthur's photo).

I hope I haven't confused you. Good luck! Cool

Re: [carynn] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi Carynn, after getting really solid advise, I have decided to miss out the particular gf I intended for my Pepperboy. I have been told that he is a little smaller than most and I did not want to end up having gotten him a gf which was larger in structure. I need to look for another female MS which is about the size of Arthur's beautiful LeeSha.

I was contemplating the name Cookie from the song "Cookie starts with C" , which was sung by the CookieMonster in Sesame Street but it will all depend on what she'd look like. So, my poor Pepperboy has to continue being alone for the time being.

Pepperboy's visit very much depends on whether he is allowed in.

Yes, Harvey is pretty much lonely on his own but for the time being, we're just not ready for another dog...we even found this cushion cover with the pix of a ms on it which says "I'm an old dog but I'm still single" Crazy...so, I dunno if we're suppose to get the hint here...heh..heh..Sly

I must apologise for having to pull out at the last minute. I have to replace someone and drive the church van to pick up the old folks this Sun evening.

I was so looking forward to this run and I'm sure Jodie will also be disappointed.Frown

Greetings people!

We came, we saw and we conquered the trail!Smile (Okay, so we hurried up a bit on the last part due to the thunderstorm approaching..we still completed the trail! Wink)

It was quite a good turn out about 20 people and their furkids. The weather was sunny and very warm! Though on the return leg the sky suddenly turn dark and loud thunder was heard every few minutes or so..

Wokay, here's the pictures...

Gathering point..

The beagle gang lined up in force at the starting line!! Smile

The schnauzer gang were there too..Sly

That's CY and her gutsy Sunnie girl on the right corner..

Walking up at last...

Climbing that hill...Tongue

This picture of Lee Ron sums up the whole day adventures..

Thanks to all who showed up on time and hope everyone had a good time. I propose we sweat it up again on March 04, Tuesday (Public Holiday..Awal Muharram). This time we start early at 7.30am.

Hi Gina,

Glad you and Biscuit enjoyed the walk. It was kinda warm at first but deeper in the trail it wasnt that bad due to the shady trees. Not everyone are the morning type but waking early to enjoy the fresh air (or "yang" energy! ..Hee Hee..Jennifer are U reading this? ) ought to be worth a shot.. I believe Biscuit would thank you. As for us humans, I target for the dim-sum breakfast later. Yummy!

Hi people!

Woke up this morning with some stiff muscles. Unsure But that's not the reason for this post. If your doggie is walking funny today, other than them having stiff, sore muscles also, do check their paws. I found a small tear on my Lee Sha's rear pawShocked. Nothing serious but she was limping slightly. She must have stepped on something sharp. This is the first time she got a cut from all her numerous walks in the past.

Yum yum....dim sum huh...how to burn calories like that huh? CoolSlyLaugh I always like to go to SS2 for dim sum...cheap and lots of varieties...

Will try to wake up THAT early...but if not..I'll just wait for your guys at the halfway point hehe...

Yeah Sunnie amazed her mummy too. I couldnt believe it myself ! And she didnt even drink much water...

So after the dinner, as a reward, I brought her to the petshop in Taipan for her to get whatever she likes...and realised that she actually has everything liao !...from her presents at my birthday party...

So today I went to market and got her a huge wild boar knuckle bone for free (about 1.2 ft long) and steamed it for her to chew on. SHe was so fierce when I tried to touch her or her bone...Growling with her teeth clenching toughly on the bone !

Scary scary.....

But good way to keep her occupied, cuz after that she knocked off hehe...too tired with chewing I supposed Laugh

Hi Carynn,

Heh! Nice pic of Harvey Milkbone! But somehow to me, he looks older in this picture than he actually is. And tell him that Lee Sha has made a full recovery! No more limping... Will see whether she regains her speed during the off leash heelwork. She's undergoing training for her obedience trail next month! Only 3 more weeks left Shocked!

As for the schnauzer gang that turned up that day, we had a total of 6 MS! Pepper Girl (Senior) Lee Sha, Lee Ron, Harvey Milkbone, Pepper Girl (Junior)& Goofy Girl. And yes..we should take a group pic like the beagle pack! Remind me at the next outing..

So did Harvey managed to pass the retest? Hope it was worth the drenching..poor guys!

Re: [ginl] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hallooo Gina! It was test for beginnerslah Frown can u imagine? Plus none of us..or rather Harvey's classmates manage to pass the test..the entire class flunked??? So it was a mixture of feelings..surprised, disappointed to Shocked huh??? Apparently Harvey didn't fare too well for the walking part so gotta redo lah... The poor thing was quite wet...we pamper him and gave him lots of goodies when we got home so he was rather pleased Tongue

Hey, the CGC is a different test altogether right? What's the criteria anyway? Any dog can join? Has Biscuit gone for it?..Oh ..heh..heh..enough for now..bombard you with questionssss aje.

For next Tues, u guys will go all the way and join us for breakfast?

See u guys around & send my smooches to Biscuit!

Hi Carynn,

Hey Congrats to you and Andy for taking Harvey successfully thru his CGC exam! Do bring along a nice waterproof file holder to keep his CGC cert dry when you collect it this Sunday...just in case it pours again! Do remind me to take a family snap of you guys with Harvey proudly wearing his CGC medal.

Re: [arthur] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Thank you..thank you..it was more Andy's effort of course Tongue..I was just standing there at side of the field with an umbrella waiting for 'em to finish..wish Andy had a cap on and Harvey had a little raincoat to cover 'em though Frown

Like what I was asking Gina...I thought CGC is a diff test??? I'm a bit blur & confusedlah... Shocked so what Harvey's been taking all this while is a CGC Beginner's Level??? I always thought it's just a Beginner's Obedience Class....

Re: [carynn] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Eh not CGC meh? What's a beginner's test? Now i'm confused too lol...i tot there was only puppy kinder and then basic which is also the CGC? Yah Biscuit passed his CGC in Penang last year and yes we will join for dim sum after....will be the 1st KL dim sum for me Smile....Jason and I took Caldrone and Biscuit today for the walk as well....we are trying to make it a daily thingy....better to exercise than to goyang kaki at home Tongue

Re: [ginl] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Omigod...now I sound like an ignorant mother Blush Yeah..come to think of it, I think it's basic class lah not beginners as I put it...pai seh nya......Crazy So if it's basic, then it's also known as the CGC???

Oh great, since Biscuit is such a smart boy, r u gonna continue the advance classes for him? How old is Biscuit now? You know with all these small dogs, they always look young especially one as robust & energetic like Biscuit!!! Laugh I really love that brown, round patch at the back of his body...

You and Jason are Penangites but r staying in KL now? Wah, the daily walk sounds like such a discipline habit...I'm beginning to feel kinda flabby & lazy upon hearing this..heh..heh...Perhaps, we shud have more walks in Bkt Kiara???

Re: [carynn] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

If you got a medal and a cert frm passing the test then i believe that's CGC...not sure if KL they also hv a separate basic test as well? In Pg we don't...just CGC.

Me and bf (James) are Penangites and now staying in KL...Jason is frm KL....heheh yah the brown round patch on Biscuit's back is like a bulls eye target for dart throwing Laugh....he's 1 year and 3 mths old...how old is Harvey?

Re: [ginl] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

hey you know the puppy kinder? is that basically the same as basic? since puppies go straight to pre-novice after their course in puppy kinder?

Re: [luckey] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Well i was told by the trainer in Pg that puppy kinder is more or less the same as basics...they teach the same type of commands but the main idea in puppy kinder is puppy socialisation....in Pg we don't hv puppy kinder...all puppies (even 4 mths of age) go straight into basics, do the CGC then on to pre-novice....maybe in KL things are more well defined...and guess the response is so great here they will segregate dogs by ages into proper classes....Pg more flexible lar Laugh

Re: [arthur] Post Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi Arthur,

That day after you mentioned Lee Sha had a tear on her rear paw i went and checked Biscuit's and they were ok...but yesterday we went for the walk again and this morning i checked and i saw two of his back paws also hv a slight tear to it, actually more like the skin peeling....he's not limping though but they look a bit pinkish....i don't think he stepped on anything, must be the way he walked and on long distance on tar roads coz both tear are symetrical on each paw (middle toe)....guess he's not used to walking on tar roads coz in Pg he was mostly on grass or the beach....must toughen him up liao frm now on Crazy

Re: [ginl] Post Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi Gina,

What you described on Biscuit's paws is exactly what happened to Lee Sha's. In Lee Sha's case, we can see the pink exposed flesh underneath. Good thing is it only took 2 days to heal up nicely.

I agree with you that the hard paved road surfaces does take a toll on the paws. It becomes worse if they walk on a hot day. We are not aware just how hot the paved road surface is until we walk on it with our bare feet. That's why the mornings would be a better choice from now on. Another way to see this is that our furkids are a pampered lot Blush

Hope Biscuit will recover nicely. Rdgs Arthur

Re: [luckey] Bukit Kiara Walk-Walk 22Feb03

Hi Luckey...or shall I say "ALPHA" Wink. Wah, webmaster Khoo is coming up with more and more interesting rankings. Can't wait to see what's next?

Anyway, as Ginl pointed out, yes, they teach the same commands in puppy kinder. and basic classes. Only difference is the level of tolerance for mistakes and imperfections. Bodhi had just completed her puppy class and could have gone straight to pre-novice. But we decided to take it a step at a time and go for Basic instead. We hope to reinforce her foundations first before moving on (also less stress on me-lah Wink). Hopefully after Basic, I'll only need to give command once before Bodhi responds. Right now, it's sit, sit, sit, sit ...then only she sits!!Crazy At her tender age (7.5mths), she's still very inattentive and has short concentration. Of course, being a beagle doesn't help much ! So Basic it is Smile.

Oh yes, Sharon called me yesterday and clarified that it's indeed CGC Beginner's Tongue...Harvey is one year and 4 months..one month older than Biscuit...

Ha..ha..for dart throwing..sure or not? Where got sampai hati to hurt that little fella? Do you watch Frasier? If yes, watch out for that cute Eddie...maybe you can train Biscuit to become a star like him too...I think Biscuit boleh lah!

Ah..you're so right bout the dunno whether to laugh or cry part...but I think we are more partial to laughing at their silly antics!!! Laugh Yes, I very minat JRT...especially one with a patch over the eye..then it looks like a pirate dog...but now that I have Harvey, shud we get another one, then I think we'll be more incline to perhaps find a mate for him. Dunno how/if a MS can get along with JRT though Harvey has really good temperamant. So, for the time being, I shall just drool over, eye/play with your Biscuit Tongue
