Re: [russellc] russell say hi

Hello Rusell,Cool

Welcome to the forum.

Nice to know another fellow subang jaya resident. So...do you have your own GSD? If so,how's he? How's his training coming along?

Right now,I've got 3 dogs, none of which are working dogs but am still waiting for my working one. The non-working line dogs are Hazel(dobe),Tyson(Bullmastiff) and Silky(cocker spaniel terrier mix). I'm doing some tracking with Hazel...not too good, but all in good fun. Tyson at the moment is my protection dog. He doesn't have the drive but his defence building up. Albeit not much, but it is enough to get the job done. Right now, doing that as well as discrimination for him. Mucho Mucho Importante Tongue

I'm actually more interested in real-life protection, rather than the sport but everyone who works has to wind down sometime.Smile

Re: [RealityDreamer] russell say hi

Hi,

I only have GSDs from kids till now. I had bought my first working GSD puppy from Kirschental 8 year ago, thinking of might be able to train her for Schutzhund....well..only found out we don't have any!

So, i wait...... 8year till now...........i still can not see any light of it! My bitch is still with me, i had her trained in OB, by myself, from the resourceful net and video. Can not train protection cause can't find a helper.

I just bought another puppy from a Czech working line, his name is Fero Z Jirkova dvora CS, 4 months old, training him in tracking, still, leaning from the net and advise from the breeder. Thinking of sending him back to Germany to train for schH, very expensive, the fee and expenses is equivalent as sending my son to England for his degree! I must be mad if i decided to do it, i think.

As to Schutzhund club, i'm still very much keeping my finger cross, but will take any active position if time is right, of course, together with many of guys like u, we can realise the idea.

I still have many 8 year to live, i believe.

Re: [RealityDreamer] russell say hi

Fero is from Xac z Pohranicni straze & Chasinta z Pohranicni straze, line-breed is Iro z Pohranicni straze 3-3, the father of Gent od Policie. May be a 3-3 is too close??

I'm using on him the so-called " three foot food", where you put his flavorous food within every single footsteps within three foot dimension, anyway it's mainly lots of play and game, to create a closer relationship.

My hand and foot are all scratches, will keep fight back, bite harder the second time, he is also very suspicious especially in new environmental. If he is not properly groom, will definitely a fear bitter. It's lots of different from kirschental bitch, where the bitch spirit is more lively, the bond more human, the prey drive of west GSD is well (shall i say genetically) more developed. Fero mind is more independent, well..don't really know how to tell, will need to observe more time (less then one month with me). He is learning basic OB, like sit, down, stand. retrieve no way yet!Pirate

Re: [russellc] russell say hi

very impressive lines...u've dogs like baron, treu and ingo as well as iro n gent(like u mentioned) Cool

"If he is not properly groom, will definitely a fear bitter" hmmm...why do u think so..? Crazy U mean if he was sent for compulsion? I didn't really get that. Generally, czech dogs are harder and more civil, they should be able to handle alot more stress ( I think..I'm still quite new to all this).

Well,he's only 4 months old. There's lots more time for him to develop. I'm guessing he's dark/black sable in colour? large for his age as well..?

Re: [RealityDreamer] russell say hi

What i mean was if he is abused, can turn quite negative.

He keep trying to dominate my kids. On one hand i try to ask my kids to respect him so as he is not abused, on the other hand i need to correct him on the behavior so as to avoid him becoming uncontrolled in the future, (he stay on the floor level to wait for the kids movement, and mount their feet), and my kids are all below 10 yr old.

So have to balance between not destroying his confident and on the other hand, suppressing him to become a pack leader in the family. Anyone can help?

BTW, he is a black dog.

Re: [russellc] russell say hi

russellc,

Forgive me for breaking n entering here Blush. I think it is important to understand and read the dog correct. The term fear biter and bites when abused are not synonymous. The former is related to weak nerves and the later is related to defence. These 2 drives are miles apart. My advice is to keep his attention on you and train him positively up to perfection without your kids around and once achieved then let your kids sit on one corner while u train him up to perfection again. Then let your kids sit nearer and the whole thing starts again. This is called distraction training. The drive to play and dominate your kids are natural in reasonable dogs. It will be lesser once it grows up you can use obedience to control him.

The lines look nice. Sounded like a Jiri's dog. Smile

HI, Your 'breaking in" is most welcome, cause i'm contemplating to breaking in your silent by paging anyway!Wink We have only one cause to concern ie the schH sport and the dog.

I understand what u say, i was actually merely refer to fear bite resulting from weak nerve which in turn was caused by some form of inappropriate handling of the puppy.

Thank you for your advise on the kids, i'm not seriously starting the training yet, but the kids is surely messing up..Mad, the kids are complaining i spend less time with them but the dogCrazy

u forgot to mention Chasinta's father. Gomo z Jirkova dvora with the ZVV3 title. This is no joke........a serious dog, not every one that has fast enough hand to own and train him.

Chasinta is now in US with Sapphire Kennel. She will be bred again to Illo von der Abfuhr.

hahahaha.......like surchinmy said, I'm a stubborn old dog. Just dont know when to stop. I bet there is a bunch of people couldnt stand my straight forwardness too eh....Tongue Just for jokes.......learning has no limits. Compared to many greats......I'm a mere good student. Many masters can train all kinds of dogs given to them for a fee. I can just decide if I am qualified enough to train the dog after I had seen it, I need the dog to have some right stuff first.... so me no master Laugh

Anyway....out of topic a bit. I'm looking for out of controlled dog between 1-2 YO for adoption. Any clues who might have them? Dont need pedigrees. My assurance is that if he is right candidate, he will be well trained and will become my personal PP dog and he will be well taken care of for the rest of his life. Visits allowed after training course end. Smile

Re: [boon] russell say hi

some though just cross my mind:

at this moment, it's useless even if i own Gomo z Jirkova dvora !

just like we dont expect coca-cola to be listed in Iran so that their stock exchange can become world class, cause they dont even have one in the first place!

basically, when i bought Fero, i dont even care about whether he is the pick of the litter , he is a male/female, i did not choose the color, or did i know enough about his pedigree, cause any mongrel can be called GSD in Malaysia, as long as he is black/tan.Sly

that is my negative tot. postively, i bought Fero for my personal enjoyment in training him.

Re: [boon] russell say hi

HI boon,

did u do tracking on your dog?

I'm doing it alternative day, thinking of letting him know the command of 'search'.

He realise it is a game when search is said, but not much development as far as following my foot step is concerned.

I'm confused as to whether i need the dog to follow the exact foot steps of mine within the 3 feet dimension. He keep go out of the track to find for the food, which i cant accuse him, cause they are so close.

May be i shall start a straight line track next week.

Any advise?

Re: [russellc] russell say hi

Hi russel,

Tracking is not that difficult to do. Like Obedience all it needs is to start small and grow bigger. The dog is not able to know that search is to follow your foot scent. U need to tell him that. Always start in a place that you have not been stepping on for couple of days at least. Then do a scent pad of about 2' x 2'and put alot of food spread out there. Then bring the dog over and he will automaticaly go for the food and when he finished the food bring him away and put him away. Then the next day do the same in different location. U need to do this 5-6 times until the dog puts his nose down and knows the process well. Then do that again for another week and this time incorporate the word search the minute he puts his nose to the ground. This is the inprint foundation for tracking. Happy trying.Smile

Hi Henry,

Wah u tracked me until here ah? Not a bad dog at all.....hehehehe. I lost a bit of drive lately as I was concentrating on other matters for now. Need to earn some money first before spending it on dogs....lol.SmileWink

GSD King arr? I also donno leh. I had skipped an opportunity to breed to a very nice stud 1 month ago as my new kennel wasnt ready. Didnt want to proceed with this breeding knowing I cant put in my best now. Few fellas even twisted my ears for not doing this breeding which was a sellout booking but wat to do?...wrong timing. I think they should call Mike as the GSD King lah....not me.heheheheh!

How is the helper work getting along? Learn to read the dog. This is the most tricky part in helper work. Physique u already have. Read up on dog drives and their instinctive behaviour. It should get u going on the right track. I personally think u have what it takes to be a good helper. Keep it up.

One day must test your helper skill to how far u go aldy....hahahahaSlyLaugh
