Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

I am new to the forum and have not owned a GSD in ten years. Am finally getting my own place and plan to get one. Any good breeders that anyone can recommend? I don't intend to buy from a pet shop.

Re: [boon] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi there,

I am from Subang Jaya. Nice to meet you. And where are you from? I have always been interested in GSDs. When I was a kid, I had one, and it was from British show stock. However, I noted that over the years, there has been a shift to German lines, which is good because my understanding is that the SV over there ensures that the participants in the Siegershau yearly has certain qualifications (protection, obedience as well as tracking) before it is allowed to compete. That would produce a dog that is correct in type and ability.

To be honest, I do intend to show my dogs, and as such I am looking to purchase one that has lineage back to SV registered stock. That would mean that the dog is trainable, but whether I want to train it to its full capabilities or not.

How about you? What made you get a Czech dog? Are they as highly trainable and fierce as I have heard? These are descendants of border patrol guard dogs rite? Are you training it for protection?

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi,

Czech dogs are generally more into civil edge, whether fiercer than typycal german and ddr or not it depend on individuals. What make me into czech ? hmmmm i'm very new into this working gsd and y i like czech, becoz i enjoy the satification of getting this real animal to obey me. i like crazy dog and handler hard dogs.

Still long way to go for me..........learning new thing if not things everyday.

Hi!

Surprised that you are on line. Yup, I just saw some picture of your dog Bosco on the the other thread. Looking good! Where did you get it? And is there a big following for protection dogs here in Malaysia? Can a german show line dog be trained in this as well? Also, where are you from?

Re: [RealityDreamer] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi,

I am currently in USJ. Will be shifting to Puchong in a months time. Plan to get the dog then. There will be an AKU show in August. Plan to be there to assess which dogs are available locally. Don't think there's a need to import. Looks like a lot good dogs locally. I might want to consider show line dogs, my last shepherd was of the English type, but I prefer the German types.

About protection dogs, are there any groups here locally that are training for Shutzhund or ringsport? I know the internet has a wealth of info on this, but I don't think we can just reply on this train a proper dog.

Anyway, nice to meet you. Have you found a breeder of working line dogs yet?

Hello, Smile

I agree with you..there isn't really a need to import dogs as they are already some here with good bloodlines.

Yes,there is a group here. They train for Sch but also for real protection.

Yeap. Just waiting for the pup to be born. But my options are still open.

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi,Smile

You could call MKA and ask for a list of breeders.Usually the first the recommend u would be pretty good...*ahem* ahem* his sire name would start with F. His dogs are pricey though. IMHO.You could also check the Berita Anjing,MKA's magazine for the show results. I don't think there was any show just for GSD's recently (I'm not sure..but I don't think so) so can't really get a list of the top GSD's. Only how those fared in the usual ABC.

Hi Reality,

Yeah I have seen the Locally bred Gr.Ch. He looks pretty impressive. Does he throw good puppies as well? Or does his own sire throw better pups? Do you have his pedigree? That would be cool.

Thanks.

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi,Smile

Well, I can't comment as I hv only seen one pup frm a stud of his. Xanto's pup. The one I saw had pretty good conformation but has terrible nerves and got stolen at 2 yrs old.

I know of only 2 of his dogs. Xanto vom Klostermoor (spelt something like that) and Winnerall Laura. Personally, I would not get a pup from those lines . You could try searching for the pedigrees at www.pedigreedatabase.com At the moment, the site is down.

Hi Kendz n RD,

If its show dogs then Dato F is the right person to look for. I think he had managed to do some good things for his show dog development as far as show conformation is concerned.

About temprement n nerves then I wont say more loh. There is a really big gap in that already.

Hi All,

Welcome aboard...!!Smile

I know U r looking for good show quality pup, .. but

I thk U should take RD observation seriously and avoid tis line .... even though U maybe only looking for showline dog...!! Shocked

JMO, if U r looking for SV showline stock tht comes wt good trainability, I suggest looking for dog/pup wt recent lines back to both Zamb W & Cello R.

If not....just like RD mentioned earlier, there r some quality workingline GSD around .....maybe U should give it some thought !! Wink....at the end of the day...it is the total package that count { it must not only look like GSD but must oso act like one },....skittish-ness is definitely not part of GSD character/standard .....Tongue....! !

Hi guys,

Nice to meet all of you and thanks for taking the time to answer my thread. Polluxx, when you meant

'JMO, if U r looking for SV showline stock tht comes wt good trainability, I suggest looking for dog/pup wt recent lines back to both Zamb W & Cello R.', the two dogs you were referring to were:

1) VA Zamb von der Wienerau

2) V Cello von der Römerau

? If yes, would these bloodlines be available here in Malaysia? There is another GSD making its rounds in the show ring, Olli something..... what about that dog? Does anyone have the pedigree? That and Zanto's as well? It would be very much appreciated.

Once again, thanks for the help.

Hi Kendz,

Yes they r the dogs I was referring to .....! !... but I'm not sure whether U will find their line (descendent) over here....!! if U know any, do drop me a note ....esp wt regards to Cello, he is known to produce some strong driven dog that would make a workingline folks feel proud...!! Wink .....

Did U meant Olli V Zaberhoff (sp...??), well frm his photo, I thk he got nice pigment but from wht I heard ....."he is lacking in spirit" , not driven..??...!! ,

Btw it is best that U chk out the dogs personally !! , showline being not my cup of tea so I thk I had better not comment too much, can never get used seeing the "plush coat & extreme angulation" in showline GSD....!! Cool

Best of luck in your search...!!

Re: [Polluxx] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Haiya! Pollux ah! Why u peli me this leh?....hehehehhe.

For me, any GSD which has the nerve of steel, courage of a Bear and vitality of a cheetah and loyalty of the pack will get food in my kennel. The rest are just wannabe's....lol. To be fair, I have to say that I bore no distinct hatred for showlines. Just that nowadays, its getting almost impossible to find those mentioned traits in showlines breedings. They seam to be weakened so much by the years and to maintain or at least not cause further dilution of nerves n temprements, a good show breeder will have to infuse working bloodline into their program and this needs alot of dedication in the breeder.

Many of the showlines today are from the Winerau's while they are good in the yesteryears, I personally feel that they are too much overused. If I'm into show then I would be looking for lineage with no connection of Winerau at all where my option will then be very open to combine the genepool to the best of winerau's. But this is just my personal yapping......god forbid that I appear in showring showing GSD's lolTongue

Kendz,

Line breeding and inbreeding is the same thing. The joke that we use to say is that if the dog pruduced become a good dog then we call that line breeding but if the dog produced shows problems then we call that inbreeding. To me its the same thing.

4-5, 4-4, 5-4 all refers to the the position the same dog appears in the ancestry. In the case of 4-5 it refers to the same dog appear on the sire side in the 4th generation and it also appears on the dam side in the 5th generation. same with 4-4, 5-4 and so on.

sometimes u will also see 4-5,4 which means the same dog appears on the 4th generation in the sire, 5th generation in dam sire side and 4th generation in dam's dam side and so forth.

Hi Guys,

Its been awhile. I finally got my GSD! Its showline. I took the advise you guys posted and got it from Datuk F. She is now 10 weeks old and extremely active. Its been awhile since I have owned a GSD. Boy, are they smart. I guess Czech ones are even more alert! One thing though, she is extremely mouthy.....the scratches on my hands will tell you that! Any advise how to curb this habit? I don't want to smack her.

So far it 2 weeks that she is home, she has learnt the 'sit' command, 'come' as well as 50% toilet trained. She still 'goes' anywhere when she is excited.

In terms of training, can anyone recommend a resource/books?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [RealityDreamer] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the extremely late reply. Been pretty bz with work. Her sire is 'Franco' and the dam is a daughter of Gauner Konigsgarde. I am extremely proud of her. She is really smart, compared to the last GSD I owned, which was more of the 'English type'. I'd rather not mention her price here. I will post her pictures soon.

Looking to train her in OB and such. She already understands 'sit', 'come' and 'stay' indoors. And only 12 weeks old. Currently I am working on repeating the above outdoors, with distractions. What I would really like is to try and train her in tracking. But there really is a lack of training materials out there. Does the local GSD chapter teach this?

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Guys,

Been awhile since I last wrote in thread. I finally took a picture of my dog. Remember, some of you guys pointed me in the right direction? Well, thanks to all. The picture shows her at 10 months, and in the midst of changing her coat. The stacking could have been better, will try for a better picture next time.

I entered her in the last two shows and she won best puppy in group for pastoral! Granted, she could have been better socialised then, as she created quite a ruckus at the show! Sorry to anyone if we offended them. Luckily the judge did not disqualify her. Still, our objective was for her to get use to such a surrounding. Didn't expect her to win. She is now enrolled for obedience training, which she is attending very diligently. After 3 classes, there is much improvement, she is no longer ticked off with other dog's presence. Wink I have learnt quite a lot since I got her. Now looking to see if she can be taught more.

Despite liking show dogs (ahem), I am also interested in preserving their workability. I have come to see there is a difference even in show dogs, depending on the bloodline. My dog is 5,5-4 Cello von der Romerau. In my observations of her, she has never backed down from a confrontation, and CNY fireworks right in front of her (nasty neighbourhood kids) did not faze her at all. She even went to investigate it! The true test is now for me to ascertain whether she can be schutzhund trained.

Some questions:

1) Is 11 months too old to begin training?

2) Is there any formalized classes?

3) Will training alter her behaviour in the conformation ring?

4) I live in Puchong. Where can I attend such training?

5) Can she be titled (if she is good enough)?

Hope that some one can advise. Thanks!

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Kendz,

Nice to see U back on-board.

Based on your observation, looks like U got urself a very good dog . . .

if U r interested in testing out girl for ScH training, I believe U can try going to Padang Merbok on Sunday morning (early) .. . I thk there's a group of ppl doing regular ScH training there every weekend. I am sure they will help U to test & evaluate your dog and answer your queries, ..... U can try contacting Azman or Reality Dreamer.

Best of luck.

1. never too old to teach/train the dog, at 11 months is just nice to start some manwork....provided u have some foundation for it and most important the control or OB

2. there are group of people train together at azman's place or like what Pol said early in the morning before the formal OB classes start at Padang Merbuk

3. schh training will not break your dog in the show ring, is about channel theri natural drives into the desirable behaviour.

4. refer to number 2

5. you are the one that should answer this....do u have enough time and committed enough for the training and the time u spend with her for a better bonding.....

Re: [boon] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Boon/ Poluxx,

Thanks for taking the time for replying my mail. Appreciate it. Boon, thanks for the info. In relation to question 5, I understand the amount of effort and time needed is a lot. This is something that I will take into consideration before embarking on formalised training.

However, my main question is whether there is an authorised body/persons that can award such titles in Malaysia, if the dog is good enough. If there is, whether it is recognised in other countries. Just my curiousity.

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

my understand is non of the so called local judges qualified to do this....when they have the first formal trial, the oversea judges will be invited......those judges must be FCI/SV qualified judges in order for the titles u put to your dog to be recognised world wide.

For now....if u want, u can bring them to thailand and take part of the SV/FCI Schh trial for the recignition. One of the forum member (Fred Al now he is one of the two judges that qualified to award SV/FCI recognised titles in Thai).

Re: [boon] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Boon,

I noticed that there is mention of Schutzhund in the website. Is this indication that this will now be a recognised part of MKA dogsport? If so, is there a commitee formed to push/ promote this activity to the other members/public?

Also (open to anyone),

What is the latest development with the GSD Chapter? Sorry for the ignorance. I really don't know and would like to know.

Re: [KENDZ] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Kendz,

To keep things short.

Schutzhund as a dogsport is now sanctioned by MKA and their members can train with their working dogs and even compete in the WUSV and FCI championships.

Last February there was an SV working/show judge in town who could award BH/Sch/Koerung titles but nobody was ready.Instead S'pore GSD Club did their 1st Sch test. In future we can make the same arrangements to bring a working judge when you and your dog is ready. We are building the numbers before we can formalise the group. If you have the time, bring your dog out. You may discover abt the handler and dog relationship in a different way.

cheers

Azman

Re: [boon] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Azman,

Thanks for replying. Understand from Poluxx that there is an impromptu training every Sunday morning at Padang Merbok. What time does it start? I would like to have a view of what happens in a session.

Managed to get a copy of Schutzhund: Theory and Training Methods by Susan Barwig last weekend at MPH. Have been reading the book, good book IMHO but like they say; Can't beat the real thing!

My dog is currently kept at my parents home in Perak while waiting for my own place in Puchong to be completed. She should be back in Puchong by year end. Currently she is undergoing Obedience training with MKA in Ipoh every Sunday. Most Sundays I will be there.

Would like to have a look this Sunday if possible.

We normally get together on saturdays n sundays abt 8am. I'm currently working my young female GSD for BH.

Its good to start with some theory first to understand the concept. The practical side is another thing. Lets talk on Sunday.

Re: [Polluxx] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Pollux,

If there's 3 or more dogs that meets the requirements and ready, it can be arranged. While we are at it maybe do the others as well. The SV judges normally travels thru asia during the 1st half of the year and it will not be too costly if they are around southeast asia. Is your dog ready ?

How's the JB team doing ?

Maybe we can organise a mock trial and see if we have the fundamentals correct before bringing in SV judges. I think there's enough people around who understands the sport who can guide those interested. We need these activities to create awareness and interest.

cheers

Re: [mhazman] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Hi Azman,

I thk it will be a good idea to have a mock trial, U said it best ...." more activities create more awareness & more interest " Frown

JMO, I thk most of the JB's gang can tackle the BH ex wt no problem Frown but as for Sch trial, I thk only Peter's dog can qualify for now Tongue

unfortunately my dog is not ready for ScH...I thk even BH will be a problem wt him, .....I dun thk he can pass the" down-stay" exercise (out of sight) .... Frown as he is not very social and too dog aggressive .... currently I have stop the sleeve work (which is not a problem for him), so for now just concentrating in socialising, game play & obed .....wt the help of Peter's and the rest of the gang of course. But once he pick up his social skill ...then I will definitely give BH a shot , . . . followed by ScH (...if he has what it takes) Frown

I hope the mock trial will come soon enuf, and maybe for the moment we should approach regional judges which is more approachable and maybe less costly . . . just to kickstart the whole thing. Frown

Re: [Polluxx] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

Polluxx,

Its good that you have a team now. Sch needs a good team. Training alone at home just cant get you very far. I'm trying to build one in KL hopefully we can have a friendly match sometime. hehehhe...

Our northern kakis are a bit quiet these days.. If they can be more active,

we'll have more to work with.

Don't rush your dog in things. You'll probably make more mistakes along the way.( I did)...

I'm OK with anybody for judging as long as they are sanctioned but before that let's try to see if we can do the long down first...

my sentiments exactly, . . , I believe quite a no. of them are very knowledgeable . . . if only they will just come together get something going in the North. It will be a strong boost to the interest of ScH in our country.

So to all the Northerners (incl Perak) who reading this, ... time to step forward and do something . . . Shocked

Re: [KENDZ,isaac] Where to find good SV type German Shepherd Dog

There was an FCI working judge who awarded about 10 dogs their BH and another, SchH A last week. He also judged the SK Lim SchH Trial held in Ipoh on 5/8/07. Hope you guys were aware...It would be a pity if you weren't. The more participants, the better.

Maybe you guys can try next year Smile

But yes,it is now possible to title our dogs locally. Hope that is motivation enough to train.
