bull terrier anyone?

Hi guys, i'm new here. I've been browsing through this forum for a few day but couldn't find any posts regarding bull terrier or miniature bull terrier.

I don't have a dog at the moment but i'm very interested in BT / mBT (in fact, i think i've fallen in love with them!). For months now, i've been searching the net for infos about the bullies and found many good websites about them.

As far as i know, a typical bull terrier is active, interesting, playful and clownish. It is also extremely attached to its owners or family but doestn't like other dogs much, especially of the same sex. It's considered an intelligent breed but quite stubborn (one of the reason why i like BT).

Although i would love to have a bull terrier right now but sadly my situation doesn't allow me to. I'm working 10 hours a day & i live in a condo. Maybe some time in the future i will get one, hopefully.

So, anyone out there with a bully or two? I would love to hear about them.

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Sigh! I guess there are not many bull terriers around in Malaysia. Bull Terrier is such a rare sight & now with the strict import law imposed, i wonder if i can ever catch a glimse of one... anyone ever seen a BT in Malaysia?

I've read it somewhere in the web that says a bull terrier is cross breed from a bull dog, english terrier (now extinct) & dalmation. So you can imagine what you get is a dog that's physically very strong but agile. It has a temperament of a strong-willed gladiator but doesn't pick up fights unless provoked. In fact, BTs are really very attached to their owner & families(they love children). They trive under love & attention. Be assured that a BT will protect its master at all cost untill they can no longer move.

Well, at lease that's what i know from the web. What say you???

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Hi Vince,

Yes, it's difficult to get a bull terrier here. I was looking for one two years back but couldn't get from any pet shops or breeders. So I ended up buying a pair of JRTs. The bull terrier's face looks like shark :) Quite unique features and sure they look tough. If you manage to find any breeder, please let me know too. Thanks.

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Hmmm...

Some people find BTs ugly but I like them because they come in such unique colours and shape. Wink In fact, I've got a mini BT beanie and I used to put it in my car until someone said that it was ugly and took it out... Crazy

AFAIK, this breed is quite popular in Aust and I used to see some around. Was drawn to the breed once I found out what it was. Laugh Anyway, all I know about BT is that they do have some sensitive skin and so, got to watch out for that... Tongue *sigh*... They are a fun-loving dog... Smile

Hello,Smile

Not too sure if there are any here in M'sia...If you dig deep enough you might find one or two. Will ask around for you.

Have you called MKA yet to see if there are any registered here?

A while back there was an article abt an BT and his owner either here or in S'pore. Can't recall.

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Thanks for the info, RealityDreamer.Smile

Just as i expected... bull terriers are rare in Malaysia.

No, i haven't called MKA yet... As for now, i'm still doing my research on this breed. I just want to know them better and prepare myself before deciding to look for a breeder either local one or import. (i can import a BT from other country, right?)

Anyway, what i've learned from the web isn't very encouraging... many BT owner stressed that a BT is not an easy dog to raise. Knowing that, i certainly will take my time and not rush into things.

I'll be grateful if anyone can provide me with any info on bull terrors (i mean bull terriers)Wink

Hello shoku,

I've been searching for BT for quite a while now.

The attachment below is some ads I found in a newspaper's classified section.

Hope it's useful to you. A little warning though, BTs very mischievious & thick headed sometimes.

As for me, I'm not ready yet to add a BT to my home.

Hi Vince7, I can confirm that there are indeed Bull Terriers in Malaysia. I regularly see a 5-year adult, white with brown patches, being walked by a middle-aged man around my place. The character is as you described - friendly with people but not other dogs. Looks tough and intimidating. Happy hunting,J

Hello jaytan, thank you for the bully sighting report!
Do you get the chance to meet the bully? Is it male of female?

Yes, there are indeed a few bullies around in Malaysia. There's one around my friend's place that i know of but never get the chance to look at him (or her) yet! That one is a white bully with black eye patch.

Anyone else has sighted a bull terrier around?

Hi Vince7, it is a male but that is all I know about it. The owner tries to avoid other dogs so our doggies dont get to socialise. But the man is polite enough to explain that his doggie can get worked up around other dogs. Otherwise he is a beauty - the dog, I mean . Best regards,J

Re: [jaytan] bull terrier anyone?

A male bully... that's great!

Too bad your doggies can't get close to befriend the bully. I bet your doggies are curious about him. Just imagine what they might have said: "Hey look! There's an alien dog over there... let's go check it out!" "Nah, it looks like a pig with his master."

Seriously, bull terriers have often been mistaken for all sorts of animals like pig, sheep, polar bear...

Here's a guide to help anyone out there who is having trouble recognising the mischievious bull terriers (thanks to www.wariors-kennel.com):

You' re walking down the street and suddenly you notice some unusual animal. It looks like a dog, it has four legs, tail, owner but you just can't connect it with any dog you know, and that nose, first thing that it reminds you of is a pig.
Congratulations, you have met real bull terrier". You can't believe that is a bull terrier? OK, it has very strong body and frightening appearance but at same time it's funny and so… sympathetic. Yes, yes that is bull terrier. In case you mix names (bull terrier and pitt bull are not same breed), if you believe in mostly incorrect gossips or if you are not enough informed you will probably "run away", but if you give them a chance they will almost certainly capture your heart.

Re: [jaytan] bull terrier anyone?

I can't help it (about my imagination running wild)! I've been wanting to have a bully for months now, but I don't want to rush it. That's because I've been warned while doing my research on BTs.
Not that i want to scare anyone really, but here's some pointers for would be BT owners:

Read this before getting a bull terrier :
- BT owners often call themselves "being OWNed by their bullies"
- "a 3 years old child in a dog suit" best describes a bully. (in fact, an owner once said that her newborn child is much easier to raise than her bully)
- bullies need to get plenty of exercise and be kept busy...especially when young. "A tired Bully is a good Bully!"
- bullies only become mature (less active & playful) after 5 years of age
- owners know that once their bullies escaped, they are gone. Yes, GONE & will never come back by themselves. (I guess bullies are too playful & fun seeking that they won't want go back to their BORING home, sigh!)
- if bullies are bored & lonely, they'll let you know by destroying everything he can destroy in your house! (believe me, their teeth & jaws are as powerful as your electric saw)
- "bully run" or "huckle butt" is a bizarre behavior in bullies which they tuck their ears behind and run around in the house at super sonic speed, barely avoiding anything in their way (if you find yourself in his way, DON'T move an inch or you'll be squashed!)
- "creepy crawls" or "G.I. Joe" means bullies lay down on the ground like army men and dragging themselves back & forth using ONLY their front legs.
- when bored or in need of attention, bullies sometimes make strange sounds (maybe just murmuring or grumbling like old man).
- if a bully wants something but doesn't get it, he won't just forget it. Someday somehow, he'll trick you into giving it. Yes, they are that intelligent.
- bullies are quick learners. If you make them do the same thing repeatedly, they'll simply walk away.
- bullies farts are smelly and it comes without warning.
- bullies like to eat anything they think is interesting. (your shoes, sofas, table & chair, vacuum cleaner, christmas tree... basically anything they can put into their big mouthes). Seriously, some bullies died because of blockage in their stamach.

If you finished reading the above and still managed to appreciate bullies, then congratulation, you have the qualities required to be OWNed by a bull terrier.

As for me, i'll keep on doing my research and prepareing myself while i wait for the right moment to find my bully boss.

Regards,
Vince7

Hi Vince7, since you are hell bent on punishment, why dont you get a couple of Beagles like me. Guarantee your life will never be the same again. Just read the casualty list under the chewing or pee and poop sections, hehehe. The only consolation is Beagles are smaller so you can still muscle them a bit. Re: [jaytan] bull terrier anyone?

Hi there... here is another Bull Terrier lover... Smile

The one in the picture - I breed it myself, the mother gave birth to three different color's babies, one didn't make it(pure brown), another is this pure white(no patch), and the last one is a male in brindle.

But emm... they are all in Sg now...

It's truely difficult to get one in My... so I instead, got myself a Basset Hound.. not a bad choice, quite an active baby.

Tell you what, I happened to see 3 BT in JB for sale, in brown, but to me, they are quite thin, according to the shopowner, "they are from Aus", but I didn't ask where they were whelped... probably just a shop assistant...to me, they are kind of thin, unlike my own. My babies were very strong and sturdy even when they were really young... but now the female has become slimmer yet the male has become a more sturdy one...

Quite a great experience with my BTs, they are really loyal and sweet, and always "offer help" whenever I am busy with my gardening or fixing things in the yard....

Re: [derek_poh] bull terrier anyone?

Hi derek_poh, you've got a lovely bully! I wonder what happened to them? So, you breed them yourself huh? great job! any chance of breeding again?

I noticed the bt on your avatar is white with black patches in both eyes. You said there are also brown & brindle puppies. Makes me wonder, is the mother white & father colored?

Anyway, its good to know you've enjoyed the company of your bully. Not everyone know how to appreciate them. Some people even mistaken them for pit bulls. The fact is that bullies are really sweet & like to stick to people.

As for the bt on sale in a pet shop, i have to say i am reluctant to buy puppies from pet shops, unless i'm sure they come from good breeders. That's one reason why i've been taking my time to look for my future bully.

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Hi Vince7, Very interesting posts i have read here. So have you manage to get a BT yet? I am looking for one too! Any idea where to get them??

I have no experience in keeping dogs before but I feel like I can take on a Bully as my first dog cos my dad use to have one and has relate some of his BT experience to me when I was young. Most of the behaviours of the BT as describes in this topic here seems very true. A word of advice from my dad, you have to be a very discipline and tough person to own a Bully. Anyway, dad is no longer around and I like to try out something that he did before. BT is a very interesting dog.

There are many stories about Terry (dad's BT) that I like to share, perhaps in sometimes.Smile

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

Hello kc1356 , welcome to the forum.Smile I see you are also a BT lover! Like you, I have zero experience in being "owned" by a BT or any other dog. I think it would be quite a challenge for anyone (with or without experience) to keep a bull terrier. I agree with what your father said, we have to be disciplined and to let the BT know who's boss, or else... we’ll become the servant lah.

If you’re looking for a BT, try calling MKA. They should be able to help. Also, I’ve seen quite a few ads on the classified sections on The St*r. Hope you’ll find your bullie soon. Meanwhile, I think you can do some research about BT and how to care for them. Maybe buy a book or two. There’s a forum which I think is very informative & helpful for BT owners & lovers, http://denim.bbboy.net/bullterrier .

Wish you luck on your quest to find your BT! Do keep us informed on your progress, ok?
As for me, I hope that I can get my BT a few years from now. Maybe then, we can start a BT Club of our own, how about that?

Hey, I would like to hear the story about Terry sometimes in the near future.Smile

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Thanks for the info Vince7! I visited the web page of MKA and seems like they dont breed dogs. But they might have the records of owners who breed dogs. Not sure if they would disclose the info to me but will try if I have no other option. The BT club sounds like a good idea. I will shift to my new home by end of June. After I have settle down, I will get a BT as my jogging partner. I hope Vince7 you will get your BT also soon, good luck!

Ahh! Terry, well trained physically but poor behavior and attitude. If he is still alive he is older than me by five yrs that’s about age 35. He did not died of old age nor did he died from disease, he fall in an out-numbered victorious battle. Stories are quite long but I try to recall as much as I could. I like to apologize in advance if I bored you guys.

I have never met Terry before simply because I don't stay in the house Terry was staying (don't ask why Unsure). Owing to Terry great deeds & achievements (mainly destruction), every stories was told by my dad and I believe him cos he is an honest man. Dad is an experience dog trainer even at young age and his best and first guard dog is a German Shepherd. Don’t know what name is but that dog would fetch my dad’s fish traps that he lay in the river few hundred metres away from house every morning and would fetch his school bags from home whenever he forgot to bring it to school and whoever touches my father even with a little finger, it would bark (show warning) at the fella.

But when mention about Terry, dad will usually nod his head. Although Terry is a BT (from Australia) but was a breed somewhere in 1980s and I would guess that he is a bit rougher and tougher compare to the new age breed of today which are descendants from BTs from a loving and caring families. According to dad, Terry might be descended from BT that is use for hunting wild beast in AUS.

Pain Endurance: Once Terry causes a nuisance and dad whack the shit out of him with a broomstick (guess what?..the shit came out from my dad). I know is cruel but typical prehistoric Asian mah…Anyway the broomstick broken into two during the furious whack and Terry still stand, stay and stare at my dad with his tail wriggling. Terry seems to enjoy the beating. For the split second in that moment, dad describe as his first time he is afraid of his own dog and is also the last time he beat Terry ever again.

Destruction: Dad and Terry stay in a house in rural/jungle areas. However Terry is allowed to roam around the house compound all day all night, basically his playground (I think my dad got fed up in repairing Terry’s steel home). Dad would build and repair the gate and fencing to protect the house, Terry would destroy it every now and then, thinking that it’s not necessary since he is around.

Agility: Coming back home from work, dad was surprise when terry fetch him a half-dead snake in his mouth. After inspection, Terry was not bitten by the snake but the snake has been bitten all over. That’s not the first encounter with snake, previously dad discovered a snake lying underneath his pillow and he said that he is lucky to have the habit of lifting the pillow up and beat it before he sleep on it.

Watch Dog or Predator: Most dog would bark if there see strangers in front of the main gate of the house but Terry will hide at the side quietly waiting to give a pleasant surprise if the strangers ever enter. My dad notice that for sometime and he always call on to his name first, wait for the dog to appear infront of him before entering his own house. He describe that Terry might have a poor vision at nite and he certainly does not wish to be bitten by the bully. According to dad, this is common among BTs. But my research tells me that BTs only have deafness as a problem, not sure though, need some confirmation from BT experts out there. Anyone??

The Duel: There is this Doberman Pinscher in the neighborhood nearby that always bark and showing aggressiveness at Terry from a distance. Terry would go crazy and trying very hard to damage the entrance steel gate to go out and face the tall, handsome and muscular black dog (Terry will be a dwarf if stand next to him). Finally one day, the Doberman was release (don’t know how) and it came to my dad’s house alone. This make Terry really crazy and he bite the gate again that could have been half damage by now and finally manage to get out there and fight the Doberman. Things was happening so quickly that no words or commands from my dad could stop him the moment he steps out the gate. The Doberman was down to the ground in less than 5 mins. Terry sunk his teeth on his neck. Dad says he can even hear the sound of cracking bones very clearly as Terry tightens its jaws whenever the Doberman moves an inch. Dad tried very hard in pulling him away and hitting him but doesn’t help. After another 10-20 mins the Doberman is dead. After Terry is satisfy with that he then remove his teeth from the deformed neck. The next day, the owner of the Doberman was dragging his dog to disposal and dad saw its neck can actually do a 360 turn (think my dad has lots of explanation to do with his neighbors).

The Battle: Terry never get along well with other dogs or animals. He hate dogs especially those that are arrogant and barks a lot. He likes to fight and kill as describe by my dad whenever the opportunity arises. Be it whether it is a cat OR a tiger, one against one OR one against ten. In some occasions he was really out-numbered by a pack of stray dogs or ‘kampung’ dogs. Any passerby will think that the stray dogs are bullying a little dog. But in actual fact, it is Terry who saw a the pack celebrating and having a party outside his home in which he was not invited, so again he whack through the gate, rush toward the crowd and pick a fight. He drops one of his opponent down on the floor, again the neck, while others starts to bite him all over his body. His courage, determination and concentration is on one dog at a time. Having witness his fight before, time again & again, dad will not even stay and watch him or stop him doing his stunts and simply wait in the house for him to come back when he needs medical attention. He usually come back exhausted and bloody stains over his white coat and that’s normal but the last was a bit different…. his balls and stick (private part) was badly bitten. He died 3 days after his final battle. Others might think that my father has tortured the bully to death.

Well, that’s about it! You like Terry?? Some of the physical training techniques my dad has on Terry, I try not to expose them. I think is cruel and totally unnecessary in today’s world. If I have the intention of building my BT into a killer, I will make sure he is equally a loving, caring and obedient killer if not better.Wink

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

Thank you for your story of Terry, it reminds me how powerfull BT can be. “Gladiator of the canine world” is what they are sometimes called. Although in today’s world, BTs are known more for their comical attitude & friendliness towards human, we must not forget their history in the fighting pits. Still, I strongly believe that BTs are not natural born KILLERs. Normally, any other dog can be aggressive. In my opinion, the behavior of any dog is based on how they are brought up & the exposure they got. The right training is needed for any dog for it to be well behaved. Even so, we still can’t guarantee we have absolute control over them when natural instinct take over. I think basically it is how they are built that strikes fear in people who do not understand them (just look at their massive jaws & shark-like teeth, muscular body but very agile).

I can understand the situation of your father & Terry the BT. I think Terry is very loyal & protective towards his master (I assume Terry is a male). Yes, I like Terry. It’s a sad ending for him but I admire his courage. You said Terry is descended from a family of hunting BT in Australia? Hmm, I guess they can be some kind of hunting dogs, there’s some terrier blood in them still. That explains the prey killing instincts (in Terry’s case, the snake is the victim). This is something BT owners have to watch out for because that prey can easily be someone’s pet! I find that STEEL home your father built for Terry a good example of BT’s destructive ability. Very funny! Oh yeah, remember to “puppy prove” your house before getting your bully! Unless you want to come back home to find your cute little bull terrier has eaten half of the house!

In my limited knowledge, I think BT has weakness in their ears but not eyes. Even if their vision is poor, I’m sure they can easily make out who you are with their super nose. So I guess your father has been fooled by Terry there, because I’m sure Terry will know he’s home long before he gets near the door... hmm, maybe that’s just one of the funny things BTs do to entertain their owner (or maybe themselves)? Terry : ”Hehe, daddy is coming home, I think I’ll hide here behind the door and scare the hell out of him, hehehehe...” anyway, just my imagination.

Er… I’m scared when you said “If I have the intention of building my BT into a killer, I will make sure he is equally a loving, caring and obedient killer if not better.” I really hope you’re not planning to train your BT as a KILLER.

Anyway, I’ve found a good description on BT from AKC that says…
It was a dog for sportsmen in times when life in general was more strenuous and of rougher, coarser fiber - when dog fights were allowed and well attended. As fighting dog or "gladiator" of the canine world, such a dog had to be of great strength, agility, and courage. Withal, he was bred by gentlemen for gentlemen, for those who had a great sense of fair play, and who scorned the liar and the deceiver in any game. The dog was taught to defend himself and his master courageously, yet he was to seek or provoke a fight - and so the white variety became known as "the white cavalier," a title which he bears with distinction to this day.Contrary to the opinion of those who do not know him, the Bull Terrier is an exceedingly friendly dog; he thrives on affection, yet is always ready for a fight and a frolic. The preference in this country is for a well-balanced animal, not freaky in any particular, but well put together, active, and agile - a gladiator of perfect form.

Forgot to ask you, are you getting a male or female, Bull Terrier or Miniature Bull Terrier? They are basically the same, it’s just the size factor. But I’ve heard that the mini BT has more “character” packed into the small body than the standard one! As for me, I also thought of getting a BT so that I can have a partner to do some exercise (tummy’s getting bigger already). I wish to have a bully now but… I can’t imagine leaving him alone for 10 hours in weekdays with nobody at home. Now, I’m planning something & hopefully I’ll be ready for a bully in a year or two. That’s it for now, good luck to you on your search.Smile

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Hi, just found your thread..... still haven't gotten your BT huh?

Long time ago, before I was even born, my grandfather was a BT breeder..... When I was born, he decided to breed dobermans instead.... dunno why he changed the breedCrazy Now he doesn't breed dogs anymore...Frown

I have seen a few BTs around, a neighbour of mine has a pure white one. I don't know this neighbour but I know he keeps dogs like trophies. He has a mix breed dog, a terrier mix, a dalmation and a BT. I can't do anything lah coz who wants to listen to a girl rite? When I bring my dogs out for a walk, I pity those dogs, they rarely are taken for walks, sometimes they just open the gate to let the terrier and mix breed run the whole taman. I've never seen the dalmation taken for walks and the BT only gets walked on certained days..... The worst thing is they never let the dogs run in their compound. They are chained and caged the whole day coz they are afraid the dogs will damage their beautiful grassMad

I pity the BT, so young and has to live a life like that. The bully is only 2yrs old. When the owner brought the bully out for a walk, he kept on pullling the choke chain and hitting it with a stick when it wanted to walk somewhere else.......Frown In my neighbourhood, I realised many chinese owners have dogs on chains, they never play with their dogs, they are treated as security.... I pity them so much... But I can't do anything coz they might treathen me with something......

My dad loves BT, we even went to dogshows to ask around for breeders...... but was too epensive for us... RM3000+ so we settled for boxers instead.... BT are very gentle and fun when they are properly trained.

Re: [crazymouse_yyh] bull terrier anyone?

RM3000+ ShockedShockedShocked for a bulldozer!!

Hi crazymouse, finally I get to know someone who have seen a white BT. May I know is it the mini or mega size bully?? Mousey, I really love BT,, do you think you can let me know where to meet the owner of the white BT? please....Unsure or at least which Taman you r staying.

Which dogshow did you go to? I have been to the one in London but have never attained one before in Malaysia. Would you like recommend, specially the one that have lots of BT display. Thanks!

I understand the owner who chained the bully. Releasing the bully will unleash hell. He should have plan properly before getting a bully (demolition proof the house). Can't imagine who would want to get a destructive machine for RM3K++ (I know...is Vince7! haha)Cool

You should advice your neighbors to provide more excercise for the BT. Otherwise the bully will go fat and crazy then die young!!Unsure Most experts say BT don't need much exercise and socialise but I think they need alot of it.

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

I can't say that the owner is a close neighbour, he lives at another roan but same taman lah but all I know is that he keeps the bully and all the other 3 dogs locked up the whole day so I never get a chance to see if it's pure white. I know the whole body white... couldn't see if got a patch on the face or not.... but I will tell you if it's 100% whiteSmile.

Can, you can come by.... I live in Setapak wo, if you know where is TARC at Wangsa Maju then I can come meet you lah. Oh, I think it's a mini coz quite small size. I don't think the BT is fat or crazy coz it never pull the lead whenever the owner brings it for a walk.

Have you tried calling MKA? I can't remember which dogshow I went but I know it was 5 yrs ago... I meet a breeder who breeds mini BT but I don't remember their names or have their number. I know they're showing dogs at a MKA dogshow around KL and Cheras. I don't go to many dogshows and sadly, there aren't many with BTs. I was only lucky to have meet the breeders with thier BTs. You should check out the forum on dogshows, maybe it can shed some light on the BTs seen in shows.

Re: [crazymouse_yyh] bull terrier anyone?

So… you have found my hiding place, haha!Wink Nope, I still haven’t got my BT yet, sigh!
I always dream of getting one now but it would be unfair to the BT because he’ll be home alone most of the time.

Wow, your grandfather used to breed BT ah? Any advise for us first time BT owners?

About your neighbour, I can’t understand why would someone do that to their dogs!Mad I mean, what’s the point of having dogs but keep them chained or caged all day. I’m surprised they care more for their grass than their dogs! IMO, any dog of any size will need some exercise. “a tired dog is a good dog” heard someone said that before. Anyway, if someone is afraid of their dogs damaging their house, I can only say “there’s no bad dogs, only bad owners”.

I really pity the poor BT. He doesn’t deserve to be treated like that. But I think there’s nothing you can do about it. Perhaps your father can have a chat with the neighbour?

RM3000+ for a BT sounds too expensive to me. I think RM2500+- is reasonable.

I agree with you that BTs are very gentle and fun when they are properly trained. They can be really sweet and funny. But they can also be HELL! Shocked

Hey! I though you're as crazy about BTs as I am!

I agree RM3000+ is expensive. Unless it's a champion bloodline with great body & temperament.
Or... it's a white BT with black eye patch (really expensive)!

Yes I guess RM3K for a champ line BT is reasonable. It's hard to find a breeder (much more harder to find a good one!) in Malaysia. In England, there's BT rescue shelter where you can adopt BTs.

I see you have 4 doggies at home. Are they getting along fine?

Haha... 4 monsters/angels hahaha...

The 2 boxers don't get along well, they were very good with each other at first like in the pic but later they try to fight for rank... very hard to control....

The other 2 is a shih tzu and a labrador. The shih tzu, Willy is the oldest, 10 yrs old and he's the top dog, the boss. All the other dogs respect himand never fight with him for dominance at all. Tammy the labrador is a spayed female and a very palyful girl.

Yeah, in England it's all so different. They have shelters that saves pets and no pet is put down. I watched it on Animal Planet on Astro...

Re: [crazymouse_yyh] bull terrier anyone?

Hi all, thanks crazmouse! I like to meet up with you but I'm not ready (am a very shy personBlush). Anyway is good to know BT exist in setapak, is good enough. Any vets around that area. I could check with them and see if they came across any BT owners before.

It is easy to tell whether is mini or mega size. If you said it is two yrs old, i would imagine that it has reach adult stage and should stand around the height of 20-24" (somewhere around a man's knee) for type mega and half of that for mini.

The last time in London dog exhibition, BT is the only dog that is chain up using a half inch thick cowboy ropes in the exhibition booth eventhough it looks harmless and friendly when I approach them. The rest of the dogs are free to roam. Even on the street, owners chain them using this type of rope not metal chain or leather straps (no idea whyCrazy). It really caught my attention the first time cos I thought someone is bringing a small little fat cow aroundLaugh

I didn't call MKA yet but will soon. I am actually looking at a budget around 1.5K-2K. I don't need a champion breed, any rojak breed will do lah. He might not be a champ in public but in my heart, he is my champion boy!!

Vince7, got this address somewhere. But not sure if it is for real. It is for BT lovers to meetup around the world (incld M'sia). Thought you might want to chk it out.

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

Why shy? Hehehe... I'm also shy lah hehehe...

Bull terriers were actually bred to fight last time lah, I read that they can be aggressive to other dogs so I guess that's why the are tied up, just in case..... They don't use metal chains coz it might break suddenly of be too heavy and might strain the BT's neck. Leather straps ah.... will be chewed into bits very soon that's why you don't see many peopl using leather straps for dogs, just for their collars. I know what you mean, BTs look like little cows or to me, cute bullish pigs hehehe.... eh, I'm saying anything bad about the BT, they just look like a pig... really.... I was on a farm in Perth and was able to be colse to a pig. It wasn't fat or clumsy but really solid and strong.....hehehe....

Yeah, got 2 or 3 vets here but I don't think it'll be any help coz people mostly bring in GSD, GR, chow chow, Mix breeds and many many cats.... here mostly Malays so it's very hard to see pedigree dogs.... the guy is just lucky to get hold of a Bull Terrier.... I don't care about my garden, all my dogs play in my grass and I don't care what they do.... if the BT were mine... wha... he can go crazy all day hehehe.... but BT owners can only have one BT or fightings might occur.

Thanks, I'll check it out soon.Smile

Hi kc1356, yes I have been to the site “bullterrier.meetup.com” before. Last few time I looked, no meeting took place. Not much response from BT owners & lovers, I guess. Anyway, I’ve signed up already. There’re just 3 active member at the moment, that’s you, me & another guy jrwong. Hope there’ll be more people joint in.

To make a link like this http://www.ruijters.org, all you have to do is :
1) press the button "url" in the bottom right corner where you type your text once.
2) then paste or type the add.
3) finally press the "url" button again
Hope that helps.

To crazymouse, I have always thought that BTs sometimes look like pig(white), cow(white with black spot), rabbit(huge pink ears), rat(white tail)....
same with you, I would die to have a BT. He can have all the freedom in the house... just don't break anything expensiveUnsure which I'm sure he'll do once in a while!

I don't dare to imagine what will happen if you put a BT along with 2 boxers, a lab & a Shih Tzu in one house... Pirate big trouble

Hi Vince7... If I'm not misstaken he gave all his 5 bullies to 5 different owners, some of the new owner is RAAF, some is Indian friend. He use to stay in Tanjung Bungah near TAR Collage. After that he moved to Hill Side, I get to see one of his bullies in my friend house when his neighbor brought his new adopted bully to his house. It is bindle in colour, and he told me that the other 4 bullies are now in different places, but I guess it should be some where around Tanjung Bungah or Hill side.

Will let you know as soon as I get the contact number, but one thing I'm very sure is all the 5 bullies are brothers and sisters.

Re: [Kevin Chuan] bull terrier anyone?

Hey Kevin, good to hear from u again. BullMastiff is big size doggy u know?! Atleast twice the size of Staffy. Are you sure you want it? But I think they are very good guard dog. It is said BullMastiff, in act of defence, like to throw the bad guys down and press by standing on them instead of biting. Not sure how true is that though.

I am not a dog expert and certainly not able to comment about the price. It is also the one thing i really like to know is, on what basis is the price of the dog base on in M'sia? Market demand, size, breed background, pedigree, training, registered, show type, toy, guard and watch dog type?? Maybe someone would like to shed some lights and give some ideasUnsure

Did you balik kampung last weekend?? I might switch my pref. to APBT since is EBT closest relative and it is available now. But still want to hear from your good news first!Wink

And by the way Kevin, you said you want a Staffy and not ABPT. Can you actaully tell the differences?? I think even Americans would not be able to recognise which is which (to many cross breeding). The AKC, UKC or what ever can't even establish a different standards for the breed. If you do know what you are looking for please enlighten me so that when ask Ronnie for a APBT, he don't give me a StaffySmile Thanks!

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

Hey KC... I study a lot on APBT, AmStaff, AmStaff Bull Terrier and lots of rare breed even can't get in our country. Infact M'sia only band APBT, Amstaff, Tosa Inu, Akita Inu, Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino and their cross breeds only. Breed like Dobbermann, BullMastiff, French Mastiff(Dogue De Bordeaux), and Rotty are restricted breed for importation. APBT was initially breed for dog fighting purposes, but it is a very good dog if you trained it right. They are slightly larger than AmStaff and ASBT, Amstaff are usually have a shorter square face, and shorter legs. That you can easily observe when it is still puppy. If it is an adult, pit bull will be more aggressive with other dogs compare with Amstaff, APBT has a longger legs and a longer square face. Amstaff is a breed that loves children very much, you can actually leave the dog playing with your children or even leaves them at home alone, they are much more stable than APBT and yet it is one of a best guard dog in the world.

Rare breeds that can't even found in Malaysia, and also under Guard Dog group are:

Brasillian Mastiff (Fila Brasileiro), American Bandogge, Presa Canario, Bully Kutta, Caucasian Ovtcharka, Spanish Alano, Cane Corso, Mallorquin Bulldog (Ca De Bou), Gul Dong, Guatemalan Bull Terrier, Indian Bull Terrier, and lots more. But most of the kennal club DID NOT reconized these breed, may be they have been misstaken to class them under fighting dogs... I'm not sure. Anyway these dogs are very rare even in US, UK and Australia, but not so suitable for those who has children and other pets at home. Huge size, Fear looking (maybe ugly), strong, faithful, and other positive characeristic are these breeds character.

Huh..., I will try to import some of these breed before M'sia band them. I'm serious I'm sure in the future there will be lots of dog lovers would like to own these dogs.

Last week I did not go home because I have to go for a wedding dinner, will go home this weekend.

Re: [Kevin Chuan] bull terrier anyone?

ShockedShockedShocked Finally...a true doggy ambassador come along!! Kevin I fully support your idea of importing rare breeds before they are band. Dogs are lovely creatures, what ever the breed is they should not go extinct. If only I have the ability and money to, I'll go hand in hand with you!Unsure

About APBT, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier (UK) they are families. What I know is the former two is bred from the Staffordshire Terrier (UK) (the grandfather; short and small size). Between APBT (grandson; 14-22") and AST (grandson conform to show std- short 14-18") genetically, both are the same....they are what they are because the paper and cert say so. Which is to say, an AST is also a APBT but an APBT is not necessary an AST....i'm confuse r u hehhehhhe! That is why some AST is dual registered as an APBT as well. You can find AST bigger and taller size than APBT, I don't think there is a real way to tell not even thro gameness!

Anyway our JABATAN PERHIKDMATAN MALAYSIA band all three of them simply because of their high level of mentality: "to be on the safe side" wah lau I really respect them that much Laugh

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

hey KC... Sometimes we should accept that we are staying in m'sia... dogs are "haram" to Islamic... maybe they know nothing about dogs... I guess so??? I feel they should allow these breeds to come in to m'sia but with a special condition which people that like to own these dogs should apply for license and legal action will be taken on those who didn't... what do you think?

It is very expensive to import a dog... expecially rare breed. A pair of Fila Brasillino will easily cost you US$6000.00 excluding of shippment charges, and I don't know whether our custom will stop them at the entry point or not??? But seriously... I will find a way to bring in at least 1 or 2 breed that I mentioned earlier... check it out by typing the breeds name thru Google and I'm sure you will fall in love with them....

Re: [Kevin Chuan] bull terrier anyone?

Yeah I know we are staying in an Islamic country but doesn't make sense just bcos is "haram" to band a particular breed of dogs. I don't see them to band all dogs from the country. They have come to their senses that we are a multi-national country and I do believe M'sia do employ dogs in the army and police force right? There are non-islam to handle the task even in JPH. Is just that, they (JPH) never took the time & trouble to understand the breeds or should I say-couldn't care less attitude.

As for the license thing doesn't mean anything base on that u can train a person to be a driver by taking a driving license but how can you train the owner to be a master of his dog...too subjective cos the dog will normally reflect its owner personalities not any particular training. It is also the same as asking the parents to get a license before they can get kids and if their kids get into trouble later, both the parents will bear all responsibility. Apart from that, setting up another department to issue and control dog licenses will only give a new oppurtunity for the government to make extra money from non-islamic people...you better think twice and think hard.

About Fila, again I must say you have great taste for big dog. The custom will stop what ever that comes into to our country thats for sure and for animals they will be a probation period even if you import a kampung or stray dogs. But due to their lack of knowledge in the breed or couldn't care less attitude, I doubt they will ever know the kind of breed that u r bringin in. On the other hand, I think they will be interested in your pocket rather than the puppy Laugh...lets hope not!! US$6000 KEVIN!! You must be very rich!!-says our custom officer!

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

YOU KNOW YOUR A BULLIE OWNER IF:
1. YOU ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT HUCKEL BUCKING MEANS
2. DID HE POOP TODAY ? and WHAT DID IT LOOK LIKE? ARE EVERYDAY DISCUSSIONS IN YOUR HOUSE.
3. THAT $120.00 DOLLAR PAIR OF SHOES DIDN'T MEAN THAT MUCH TO YOU.(Although you would have killed any human who even put a scratch on them.)
4. THE NOTION OF A 70 LB. DOG IN YOUR BED ISN'T IN THE LEAST ODD.
5. THE EVIL VACCUM CLEANER HAS BEEN DESTROYED and the new one is hidden.
6. YOU HAVE A DESIGN LAYOUT FOR SEATING COMPANY THAT CLEARS THE PATH FOR HUCKEL BUCKING.
7. ALTHOUGH YOU DON'T HAVE A 3 YEAR OLD , YOUR HOUSE LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE ATLEAST 2. (And thats when its clean)
8. THE SIGHT OF A 70 LB DOG ON YOUR KITCHEN TABLE ISNT UNHEARD OF.
9. PRIOR TO OWNING A BULLIE WHEN CALLING HOME IT WAS "HELLO HUN, HOW ARE YOU TODAY." NOW IT'S "HELLO HUN, HOWS THE DOG? DID HE POOP TODAY" THEN "HOW ARE YOU AND THE CHILDREN"Tongue

Re: [kc1356] bull terrier anyone?

Hey KC... This is m'sia... hehehe

To keep or to own a pet example monkeys, snakes, and certain wild animals require a license. It only cost about RM15.00 a year. I was thinking they should allow these breed in m'sia and the owner should apply for license for these breeds. Just like keeping Piranars, to own these Killer Fishes, you need to apply for lisence(RM55.00/year), and the rules and conditions is when changing the water for these fishes THE WATER MUST NOT GOES INTO THE DRAIN, and the maximum of fishes per license is only 3 allowed, the aquarium must not more than 3 feet(L) x 20 inches(D) x 15 inches(W) and some more.

May be they should allow these breed to come in to m'sia... as a breeder for these breeds the cost for the lisence should be highier than just keeping 1 as a pet. What do you think? hehehe. Anyway... I don't think it will works.

I love huge dogs, I'm planning to get 2 BullMastiff and 2 Amstaff this year. Help me to keep an eye on the Amstaff. I just booked 1 female with a breeder, he said his Amstaff is pure breed. Anyway, before I make the payment I will go to Kuala Selangor to see the parents whether they are pure breed or not.

Re: [Bull Lover] bull terrier anyone?

Hello Bull Lover, I must say you've got a lovely bull dog there... very cute. Well, I haven't actually found anyone with a bull terrier yet! I know that there are some bullies out there but I haven't got the chance to know them & their owner...yet.

So, you've actually met a bull terrier before. That's great! I'm really dying to see a live bully, you know. I've never even touch a bully before (I think kc1356 also)!

Yeah, BTs are very loyal to their owners. Once they get to know you, there can be very sweet. I bet Ah Boy must be a very adorable bully. A white BT with a black eye patch is very rare indeed. & very expensive also. I hope Ah Boy is healthy & happy in the rainbow bridge.

As far as I know, BTs have quite a few weakness in their gene. Mostly they are prone to deafness, kidney problem & sensitive skin. Other than that, they are really as strong as a bull!

Hopefully, one of us will get a bully soon...

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Hi Vince,

I went back to my mom's house last week end, I have spoke to the Indian BT owner regarding the other adopted BT, he was not sure where the others gone... but he will help me to keep an eye on it...

He is actually looking for a mate for his Bully... a male Bully... But after I saw his bully last week, I found that it is sick... what else... the usual skin problems bully had. I gave him some antibiotic for ChaCha (his Bully's name) hope she will get well soon.

Ok, will let you guys from Penang know when he found the others bully... (I think they should be at around Tanjung Bungah, Hill Side or Batu Ferringhi area)

Hey, found any AmStaff news recently? Please help... Thanks.

Re: [rufferto] bull terrier anyone?

Hello rufferto, I did have some pix from a breeder but I accidentally deleted it.Frown But you can email him at sogreatbull@hotmail.com Mind you, he's from Thailand though. He's got some champion BTs but I find the price is too high for me.

Other options are :
1) call MKA & ask for breeders' contact
2) saw some ads on the star about a pair of adult mini BT
3) go to a pet shop & ask order from them
4) some of us are also in the search for BTs/ mini BTs, will update you if we get new info

Yup that's me who replied your post but not much help lah, cause I only know more about Bull Terrors.

You're right that BTs are full of energy! Our old bones will not stand to their daily activities. Better if got 2 or 3 people to tired them down. Only then you can get peace in your home.

Please do send me a copy of Ah Boy's pics if you manage to get it. I have a habit of collecting bully pics. Now i think i have hundreds of them mostly from the web. Thanks.

hi Kevin, thank you for taking the trouble to update us on the bullies in Penang. So ChaCha is looking for a mate now eh? Too bad I have no idea about any existing bullies in Penang. Any chance Boon might know? Otherwise, I think I saw an ad about an adult BT for sale in the Star no too long ago.

How is the skin problem ChaCha has? Any idea what caused it? Itchy skin or sun burn perhaps? Yeah, hope she'll get well soon.

I have no news of AmStaff at the moment. But I'll keep an eye for you. So when are you going to see the AmStaff in Kuala Selangor?

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply... it's been a very busy week. Hey I saw the ad too. Well, it's too expensive for me lah. It'll burn a big big hole in my wallet!Pirate I really appreciate all your help. I've guess we are all really mad about BTs haha. The first thing I do when I have a newspaper in my hand is look for the pets ads, hehe.Tongue
Yup, I'm still looking for a bully. OK, I've made up my mind to get a mini BT. I think now it's about time to look for one. Anyone here looking for a mini BT as well? Maybe we can get our puppies together for a better price? How about you kc1356, still looking for a standard BT?
Crazymouse_yyh, do you think you still got the contacts of breeders from last time? If you still do, please email me at jjchuah@hotmail.com thanks. It's really hard to find a good breeder. I would appreciate if anyone who had made enquiries about BT or mini BT can contact me so we can share information & compare the price. Thanks!

Hey hey hey... another "BULL" lover yup...? BULL dog, BULL terrier, BULL mastiff, american pit BULL terrier, american staffordshire BULL terrier and lots more BULLs... hehehe, they are all fine breed. I love dogs, any breed... even it is "vege dog" doesn't matter, but I will prefer BIG BONE dogs.

Reason... I need them to look after my house. Now days too many robbery case happen here and there. A real good alarm system + " A FEW" big dogs will reduce the risk of being targeted. What do you think???

I have a friend from SP has 9 APT puppys for sale... If anyone here wants to buy... let me know, and I will SMS you her number.

Well, for my security system,i'll be getting a working line dog. Not exactly sure which breed yet though.

But if you really want a serious guard dog,u should try looking into the working line dogs. Samson is a show dog. He will only *look* good but might not act the part. I do not know of any working line amstaffs but I do know of working apbt's though.

Hi Dreamer... are you sure an APBT can be class as a working dog? I have seen an AmStaff which work in US Army Force in Astro program. Anyway, if an APBT can be a working dog, I can consider to buy one.

The only problem with APBT is they can't be kept with other dogs, isn't it?

Re: [Kevin Chuan] bull terrier anyone?

It depends really on what you mean by "class"..

Coz u see, most dogs that we see on the streets are frm show lines. The dogs which look good.

In the modern day where there is very little use for dogs as we hv machines, not all terriers can hunt, not all shepherds can herd, not all rotts can guard, not all bird dogs can point/flush birds.

Over the yrs ppl(since many ppl don't use dogs which were originally bred for) bred dogs to "improve" their looks. Long time ago, boxers looked like a skinnier version of an amstaff. APBT's looked like mongrels with a wider jaw.

Majority of ppl breed these kind of dogs.the ones which look good. They emphasized on their looks so much that they sacrificed alot of their natural drive n instincts.

That aside, there are ppl who want to preserve the originality of the breed. Some ppl want/breed working line dogs for their dogs. These dogs were bred with the genetic makeup consisting of temperament, drives and nerves. Dogs that can be trained for utility purposes such as protection, tracking,Police Service Dogs(PSD) and so on.

They can be of any breed, just a different lineage. For example APBT's/Bulldogs, some breeders might use them for protection. So they might try to lessen the dog aggression in their own breedings.

Chances are (depending what the amstaff u saw do) that the amstaff is frm a different lineage. That being said, sometimes dogs frm show lines can be used for work. Though most do not hv the nerves to do protection. They still can be used for tracking n as therapy dogs.

So in retrospect,it's not so much a breed which can be considered a working dog,it's the "lineage" of the breed.

P.S. For APBT's,just as other working dogs, they can be used for different type of work. An APBT bred for protection will look quite different frm the show line APBT"s which you see on websites. A fighting line APBT would also look different from a APBT bred for protection though they are the same breed.

CheersSmile

Hi Dreamer... I agree with what you said, but at the end we still need to consider their instinct and behavior. I'm sure an APBT initially they were breed as a fighter, so I guess their temper are not so stable as others. We can't let APBT running around with other pets... it will kill them. Anyway, besides the AmSatff, I am actually looking for a male BullMastiff (puppy).

Yes, I did train my BM personally. He responds well to training, is attentive if the environment is suitable(not too hot,not too much distractions),quick learner and for a BM,pretty motivated (when he's got the insentive ie. foodTongue) I did a mistake of giving a crash course of Obedience...all commands in a 1 mth span and then practice after that. But things are ok. Though I will not repeat that with my future pup. I hv a little difficulty with his heel which is getting much better after getting tips frm the sifu's here (it was my fault in the first place). His heel isn't very close to my leg because he wants to move abit away frm me to look at my face, which is a good thing but the fact that he's not close enough....

Generally,he is a good dog. Likes to please me,or rather, please me enough to reward himTongue

The trick of training is making it seem like a game. Then the dog would very interested in "playing". But then again BM's are known to be a little "slow"..not so motivated and need more stimulation because of the mastiff in them. Btw, how old is your BM?

If I had all the funds in the world, I would get a Presa Canario Smile Check out this site www.red-star-kennel.com a famous kennel in the US which breeds & trains working line presa's as well as gsd's. Or try to find a good working line BM with enough drive...which is extremely rare.

But unfortunately I'm not rich and I hv a budget. The ideal breed for home protection would be a Rottweiler but the rotts in M'sia are no good for protection work (even those who say they're working line, they are no doubt working line..but they're not good). If you want a good working line Rott, you'd hv to import one.

So my next choice would be a GSD,since there are some good GSD imports here in M'sia with great bloodlines. They hv a good size, drives, right temperament and can get the job done.oh...no,i haven't got one yet. The pup i'm interested isn't even born yet.hehe

IMHO,APBT's would be too small for the job, sure they bite hard and hv a high threshold for pain but they are not big and heavy enough to stop a man. Especially when it's protecting your home alone. The other issue for me is also the possibility of dog aggression since I hv other dogs. For working pits, I'm not sure how dog aggressive they are really. Some I have seen are very good around other dogs. Those which are not mentioned, most likely are. Here's a site to check out www.workingpitbull.com

Hope to hear from youSmile

Re: [crazymouse_yyh] bull terrier anyone?

hehe..no la. Not keng.

Every owner should train their own dog unless they've got a problem they cannot solve, then only seek proffesional help.

Been interested in dogs ever since I could remember...Cool and at the early stages i wasn't allowed to get one,so all i could do was read up on dogs. Did that for a few years. Think it was a blessing in diguise really. If my dad would've gotten me the dog the second i wanted it,i wouldn't have done as much research.

Anyway,i think we have gone off topic and it would be better to chat on hi5

Hi Dreamer... My BM is only 14 months old, very lasy la. Anyway, thanks for everythings you are my "SeeFoo" now...hehehe

Well, I don't really like Rotty because they are very "LanSi" look... hehehe, however... they are good breed. I think there is no Presa breeder in Malaysia, what do you think? If there is, I might get a pair for breeding.

Let me have the contact if there is any Presa breeder in our country. ok?Wink

HelloSmile

For some reason, I didn't think your BM would be younger than mine..lol. Don't ask.Sly Cos I wouldn't know what to answer.

See Foo? oh no...I'm far far far far far from that.Blush I'm just an avid dog lover.

Yea,you're right. There's no presa breeder here in M'sia. I've only heard of one presa female imported from red star up north. That's all I know unfortunatelyUnsure

P.S. you're welcome. I'm glad I could help in any way. Also I hope you understand the complexity of breeding..2 good dogs would not neccessarily produce good puppies. Breeding is a gamble.

Re: [RealityDreamer] bull terrier anyone?

Hi Dreamer... well, I love dogs so much especially big bone doggy. I notice that it is getting harder in getting big dogs, most of the full time breeder turns to breed toy dogs and other small breed due to the market demand. And our government bands some breeds from comming in to our country, breeds like BM, Rotty, Doberman also under restriction breeds. Infact, these breeds are not as worst as they thought. Maybe, they have some bad records on these breeds but I don't see any reason why they do so, as what you always high lighted "there are no bad dogs, only bad owners". I 100% agreed with your phase... I guess our government should review this matter and hopefully they will change it in the future. I will try to call the number you gave me to check whether there are any male BM pups available. Wish I can see you in person in the future... hehehe, and learn more things about dogs from you..."See Foo". Thanks for everythings.

Re: [Kevin Chuan] bull terrier anyone?

Hello, Smile

Well, those who are in the breeding "market" aren't really worth taking a look at. Chances are, their dogs have problems. Good breeders are those who sell their pups through word of mouth.

As for the market, small dogs are easier and cheaper to maintain and I think their market value is abt the same as the bigger breeds. But then again, bigger breeds can produce more pups...so I don't really know what's going on in their minds, besides the thought of making as much profit. Maybe it's just a personal preference....

Well, humans fear what they do not understand. It's in our nature. UnsurePirateTill the gov takes the effort to understand the breed,no matter how much we say or do...it won't change much which is extremely unfortunate for such a useful and great breed(s). If all owners were responsible in the first place...(i'll leave to u to finish this sentence)

All the best.Smile and please,no "see foo" business...i'm anything but thatBlush or maybe i'm a see foo like tau fu...

oh btw, i think there's a pic of the male BM.Not very clear though. But if you want,I can attach the pic. Smile

Re: [RealityDreamer] bull terrier anyone?

Hi RealityDreamer, i see you're a BULL lover as well, huh!Laugh
I agree with you that we as a dog lover should get our doggies from a good breeder, not from puppy millers or those who care more about their pocket rather than the breed. In a perfect world, I would prefer to import my BT from a reputable breeder. But... I'm not a rich guySmile What I'm trying to do is to stike a balance between getting my BT from a good breeder & getting a good price for it. It's not that easy to do really, considering BTs are quite rare in Malaysia. That's why I've spend one whole year to find & do research on this breed.
I would really appreciate if you can look out for me if there any BT / mini BT breeder out there. Thanks in advance.

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Will have to agree with you 110% with you as well esp with a "rare" breed such as a Bt(rare in M'sia, abundant in other countries).

Don't worry abt the waiting. I have a friend who has been searching for a good working line GSD pup (Can you imagine that? lol )for abt 2 yrs plus and finally found the right sire and dam. So he was just waiting for the bitch to be bred and then the unexpected happened. The bitch sibuk sibuk fight a snake and didn't win. Pirate So ended up doing more searching...Now I think he's been waiting and looking for a total abt 3yrs. Talk abt patience.

When I was looking around for a BT, I had a really hard time looking for one withing my budget, and came to the conclusion to couldn't get one within that price range. Chances are, there are some in the market but higher in value. But I haven't had the chance to see the pups for myself..but by the way the breeders sound on the phone...They don't really know what they're talking abt Pirate

But I will definitely look out for BT's. Will ask around for you.Smile

Re: [RealityDreamer] bull terrier anyone?

Hey Dreamer... Correct me if I'm wrong... as far as I know:

American Staffordshire Terrier, APBT and American Staffordshire Bull Terrier are three different breeds, AmStaff is a breed crossing APBT with Staffordshire Bull Terrier (also known as British Staffordshire Terrier), and American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is another breed by crossing AmStaff with American Bull Dog. For the AmStaff and AmStaff Bull Terrier they look almost alike... the different that I can point out is AmStaff is a bit larger than a AmStaff Bull Terrier, and the scalp of AMStaff is much more square than a AmStaff Bull Terrier. Temperament and breed behavior... AmStaff are much much more stable than a AmStaff Bull Terrier. I actually know about these when I was in US, but that was quite long time ago and I have hardly seen these breed in M'sia so I can't share with you guys in more detail. AmStaff and AmStaff Bull Terrier are recornize by AKC and few others Kennal Club only.

Anyway, I love these breeds... they are very good with children as well.

Re: [RealityDreamer] bull terrier anyone?

Hey guys, not sure if its true but according to my studies there is only two type of staffy. The original one is from UK (yes the pussy) staffordshire terrier and later brought over to USA to cross bred where so many other names came up.

Generally there is a war going on between AKC and UKC and is just like civil war in America. As we all know, they (US) claim to be loving and kind people and will not tolerate cruelty to animal. THe fact is dog fightin is still on in USA.

Therefore staffy in US has undergone two types of breeding programs. One for fight and the other for show. Those cruel people will like to hav their staffy name as APBT and those lovin and caring people will call theirs AST or ASBT without the word 'PIT'. And those who have undergone fightin program end up being out of specs (smaller or bigger size or looks ugly).

So generally, AST ASBT or APBT are the same and the only difference is between its distance family UK staffordshire. One thing for sure, those registered under the AKC is not a good figther (under strict conformation). Those registered under UKC hav good chance from a gamed bloodline.

Hi all Bullovers, I'm back & I'm still bull-less.Tongue
Yup, I went to have a look at the BTs but decided it's not for me.
There's 1 white female, 1 dark brindle male. Both adults now & looks pretty good physically, not too sure about temperament though. Although the owner said both are miniature BT, i'm not too sure 'cause both exceeded the height limit for miniBT. BTW, the asking price is too high for me. Crazy
So i guess i'll have to keep looking & test my patience lo...

Re: [Vince7] bull terrier anyone?

Something to share with all. I'm sure the rules applies to all breed of dog as well Cool

What Rules Do I Need to Know as I Raise My Bully Pup?
Try the Alpha Rules!

By Yana Miklos

Leaders go first. Make your dog wait at every door and gate (including the car) until you allow the dog to go through it. Make sure YOU go out the door first. Use the word “wait” and then a release word.

Leaders eat first. You and your family eats first, then you feed the dog BUT not at the table.

Leaders control food. If the dog gets to eat anytime he likes, he’s the leader, the Alpha. No self feeding.

Leaders get the best spots. Do not let the dog on your furniture, including your bed. He can come only if you invite him. Once or twice a week is plenty until he knows his place.

Leaders have the highest place to sit or lie down. When you have a problems with your dog, do not let him be higher then you are. Do not sit on the floor while your dog is lounging on your sofa. Wrong! Let him be on the floor next to your leg and you sit on the sofa.

Leaders can go wherever they want, and the dog must get out of their way. There should not be ANY resistance on his part. He should move away quickly, if not just run right into him.

Leaders get to see tummies and genitals. Submissive gesture for the dog is to expose his stomach and genitals to the Alpha dog. You can use a tummy rub for that purpose.

Leaders stand tall. When playing make sure you put your hand (paw) or head on your dogs back or put your chin on his head, but do not let him do same to you. If your dog is misbehaving, stand up and be tall; do not bend over.

Leaders can stare. If you look at your dog, do not avert your eyes first but wait till he does. Check on this, you will be amazed how many times you look at your dog and how quickly you avert your eyes not even thinking about it.

Leaders can take the toys and keep them.

Leaders do not play tug of war.

Leaders do not chase members of their pack. Do not chase your dog, rather let him run after you.

Leaders are fair and benevolent, not cruel.

Leaders=Alpha inspires security, confidence, and happiness in the souls of their pack members.

3k for a bull terrier? that's way too expensive for my opinion. first of all, they don have the cert, which mean the breeder no need to pay certain amount to register it... u even cant tell whethere it's really a 100% purebreed...
